Pollak: DOJ Releases Part of Memo on Decision Not to Charge Trump with Obstruction
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has released part of an internal memorandum recommending against prosecuting then-President Donald Trump for obstruction of justice as a result of findings by Special Counsel Robert Mueller in 2019. As Breitbart News reported earlier this month, Judge Amy Berman Jackson of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia issued a scathing rebuke to former Attorney General William Barr over his handling of the case. […] Barr stated at the time that some of Trump’s actions, while controversial, stemmed from “non-corrupt” motives, owing to the unique circumstances in which he found himself under political and legal siege the moment he took office in 2017.

Wong: Chinese Military Ignoring Biden Pentagon’s Requests for Talks
The Chinese military has been ignoring requests from the Biden Pentagon for its top leaders to speak for the first time since it took office in what appears to be a diplomatic stand-off, according to reports. A Financial Times report on Friday revealed Beijing has “rebuffed” three requests from the Pentagon for talks between China’s top military officer, General Xu Qiliang, and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. Xu is the vice-chair of the Central Military commission and a politburo member.

Not long ago, I heard a psychologist saying that the most important thing in his practice is the safety of his clients. Understandably, patients in such a setting must know that they are safe. As we all know, there must be a fundamental security in family situations for children to thrive, just as growing plants must be protected in order to grow. Homes characterized by brokenness and emotional violence have terrible effects—though even here, I would argue, not inevitably, not by some law of necessity. Some people overcome the worst kinds of abusive family situations and become strong out of some powerful resolve of character or strength of grace that will not succumb to psychological destitution. What is worrisome in contemporary culture is that the need for emotional safety in therapy seems to be extended to the culture at large. No matter what proclivity or tendency of character one might have, it is now assumed that the society is responsible for making its expression safe. No one must be endangered; no one should feel threatened in any way about anything—well, unless you stand for traditional understandings of the human good. Brown: Masks Didn’t Slow COVID Spread: New Study
New findings reported Tuesday in a University of Louisville study challenge what has been the prevailing belief that mask mandates are necessary to slow the spread of the Wuhan coronavirus. The study notes that “80% of US states mandated masks during the COVID-19 pandemic” and while “mandates induced greater mask compliance, [they] did not predict lower growth rates when community spread was low (minima) or high (maxima).” Among other things, the study—conducted using data from the CDC covering multiple seasons—reports that “mask mandates and use are not associated with lower SARS-CoV-2 spread among US states.” “Our findings do not support the hypothesis that SARS-CoV-2 transmission rates decrease with greater public mask use,” . . .
