Norris: Twice as many people condemn plastic straws than abortion
This Friday, Jan. 22, marks 48 years since abortion became legal across the United States. On Jan. 22, 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court declared its decision regarding the case of Roe v. Wade, when the highest court in the land ruled that individual state laws banning abortion were unconstitutional. From that point onward, abortion-on-demand was legalized in all 50 states. […] It is staggering to think that, since 1973, over 62 million Americans have lost their lives in the womb due to being aborted or terminated by their parent. […] As the Reformed Perspective news put it: So, someone might have had their elderly mother euthanized, or had their unborn baby aborted, but they feel like a good person since they used a bamboo, not plastic, straw. Am I missing something? Do you value bamboo straws more than human life? In the womb? Some might retort that the Angus Reid poll surveyed Canadians’ views, not Americans. However, do we really expect U.S. poll percentages on the issue to be any different than our northern neighbors, especially since America legalized abortions 15 years earlier than Canada’s legalization, in 1988?

[…] “Anyway,” Nathanson told me, “as a result of all of this technology – looking at this baby, examining it, investigating it, watching its metabolic functions, watching it urinate, swallow, move and sleep, watching it dream, which you could see by its rapid eye movements via ultrasound, treating it, operating on it – I finally came to the conviction that . . . Donald Trump is a difficult man to understand, to say the least. He says controversial things, is a stranger to political correctness and yet his actions steer towards patriotism and conservatism. Truthfully, as conservatives, we reject and abhor the cult of the individual. We believe in the sanctity of life, in the paramount freedoms of thought, speech and religion and in the purity and sacredness of family, country, tradition and history. Quite often, conservatives are left alone in defense of these values. Many times they feel bullied, excluded, unwanted guests in their own countries by the media, the left, the so-called woke mobs and even right-wing politicians, who desperately seek inclusion in elite circles. In this context, most conservatives see Donald Trump as the protector and champion of these beliefs. They rise to the defense of someone who finally stood up for them. Without understanding the deep chasm between the common people and the elites, it is impossible to comprehend the rise of Donald Trump and the devotion of his supporters around the globe. Yet, the establishment refuses to grasp this reality. They detest those who are not obedient. Hence, Donald Trump did not divide Americans. He was a defense mechanism of the common people in an environment of deep divisions and cultural conflicts. In a rarity in national politics, President Trump does not leave a legacy merely to his own people, but to the entire world.

Skurkiss: The ruling class against Trump
It was incredibly sad to see Donald Trump depart the White House. As my wife watch his farewell address, there were tears in her eyes. She saw him as a good, decent man who was maligned at every turn, all because he strove to put the interest of ordinary Americans first. The unending harassment Trump had to deal with as president will not abate. There’s the vindictive second impeachment coming, which now is apparently supported by senior Republican senator Mitch McConnell and other GOPers. Heaven only knows what else private citizen Trump will be forced to endure in the future for himself, his businesses, and his family. For as sure as God made little green apples, the ruling class will not be satisfied that he is out of office. The elites have to ruin the man as payback for having the gall to challenge them, to deflate his base of support, and to discourage another Trump from rising in 2024. Looking back at the hate, the lies, and even criminal actions directed at Trump, one might ask, what was his crime? Strip away all the superficial charges of his coarseness and lack of knowledge of Washington, and what remains is what Angelo Codevilla wrote. It was Trump’s challenge to the prerogatives of the ruling class, who for years have been enriching themselves at the expense of the country.

With a path this promising and a future this bright, it is impossible to fathom what led her to mortgage an entire political career by joining the malicious and baseless impeachment effort against Donald Trump, a doomed exploit that attracted the confused enthusiasm of nine other Republicans. Reaction was swift and decisive. From the ranks of congressional Republicans to no small number of Wyoming voters, her fitness for that leadership position fell into immediate question. Appearing on Fox Wednesday morning, she was asked immediately about the impeachment gambit. This was an opportunity to explain to a nation of baffled supporters her reasons for joining the ranks of Trump critics who believe he is responsible for the January 6 Capitol riots.
