At noon today the scenes on Capitol Hill were arguably no different to those we saw on January 6th: a desecration of the Republic. This time, by a humiliating scene of an empty National Mall, and a handful of people who stole an election in the dead of night. Much is made of the phrase “peaceful transition of power,” but this was no peaceful transition. A stolen election doesn’t equal a peaceful transition. Another phony impeachment doesn’t equal a peaceful transition. And 30,000 troops doesn’t equal a peaceful transition. In reality, this was not an inauguration in the same way that there was never really an election. An election requires that certain rules are followed. They were not. An inauguration requires a valid result. There was none.

The list of reasons Donald Trump is no longer president of the United States is endless. In a close election, any significant factor could be cited as the proximate cause of defeat. And in the years and months leading up to November 2020, there were a great many causes. Nonstop harassment by a Democratic House of Representatives and Democratic operatives embedded in federal agencies; an unbroken four-year streak of media mudslinging; partisan censorship by online communications monopolies; opportunistic laws, court rulings and administrative edicts designed to boost the Democrats’ voting edge; billions of dollars in partisan donations specifically targeting voters in Democrat-heavy cities in swing states. Fraud, too? Sure. But the election was rigged with or without fraud. The presence of a libertarian presidential candidate? Also yes—though difficult to prove. When it comes to the loss of GOP control of the U.S. Senate, however, one single event stands out from the pack. Without question, the candidacy of Libertarian candidate Shane Hazel threw the battle between Republican David Perdue and Democrat Jon Ossoff into a runoff. It might be true that Perdue could have won his runoff if various external events hadn’t affected turnout on January 5, but that’s beside the point. If Hazel hadn’t been a spoiler in November, there would have been no runoff for Perdue to lose. […] In an article published at Reason shortly after the November election, responding to criticism over the fact that his candidacy forced a runoff, Hazel said, “Give me your tears. They are delicious.” Was Hazel fully aware of what he was saying? Did he understand the full impact of what he’d done?

Obama-era CIA Director John Brennan said federal intelligence agencies’ top priority, under the leadership of President Joe Biden, is seeking to root out people in pro-Trump “insurgency” groups filled with “white supremacists.”
“I know, looking forward, that the members of the Biden team who have been nominated or have been appointed are now moving in laser-like fashion, to try to uncover as much as they can about what looks very similar to insurgency movements that we’ve seen overseas, where they germinate in different parts of the country and they gain strength, and it brings together an unholy alliance frequently of religious extremists — so authoritarians, fascists, bigots, racists, nativists, and even libertarians,” Brennan said on MSNBC.

During Senate confirmation hearings Tuesday, Biden’s nominee for director of National Intelligence, Avril Haines, said she would draft a public report of the conspiracy theory QAnon, which has been labeled by the mainstream media as a “cult” and part of the fuel that led to the January 6 violence. If she is confirmed as the nation’s top intelligence chief, Haines promised to work with federal law enforcement agencies conducting these political probes.
