Public trust in government remains low. Only about one-quarter of Americans say they can trust the government in Washington to do what is right “just about always” (2%) or “most of the time” (22%). When the National Election Study began asking about trust in government in 1958, about three-quarters of Americans trusted the federal government to do the right thing almost always or most of the time. Trust in government began eroding during the 1960s, amid the escalation of the Vietnam War, and the decline continued in the 1970s with the Watergate scandal and worsening economic struggles. Confidence in government recovered in the mid-1980s before falling again in the mid-1990s. But as the economy grew in the late 1990s so too did confidence in government. Public trust reached a three-decade high shortly after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, but declined quickly thereafter. Since 2007, the share saying they can trust the government always or most of the time has not surpassed 30%.

Human Events Staff: Wisconsin Lost Track of 82,000+ Mail-In Ballots During 2020 Election
The Public Interest Legal Foundation, an election integrity watchdog group, released a report Friday disclosing the information from one of the most closely contested states of the election, per the Daily Signal. Indeed, Joe Biden beat Trump by 20,682 votes in the state – meaning he only won by .6 percent or less. But, per the legal foundation’s report, 82,766 mail-in ballots were undeliverable or suffered an unknown fate. “The federal data show the 2020 election had more mail ballots that were never counted than the margin of victory in the presidential election in Wisconsin,” the group’s president, J. Christian Adams, said in a statement.

Pediatricians and other health care workers are suing the Biden administration over a mandate tied to health care which would, according to the suit, require medical professionals to provide gender-related services and surgeries despite objections, medical or otherwise. Objections, even to treating children, would be considered “discrimination,” pursuant to Biden’s reinterpretation of sex to include sexual orientation and “gender identity.” “The American College of Pediatricians, the Catholic Medical Association, and an OB-GYN doctor who specializes in caring for adolescents filed suit in federal court to challenge a Biden administration mandate requiring doctors to perform gender transition procedures on any patient, including a child, if the procedure violates a doctor’s medical judgment or religious beliefs,” read a press release from the Alliance Defending Freedom.

Williams: Taliban declare victory after US troops depart: ‘Everything is safe’
The Taliban declared victory Tuesday after the last U.S. troops left Afghanistan, with an official from the insurgent group declaring that the nation is free. The group marched onto Kabul’s international airport on Tuesday, dressed in camouflage and posing for photos, The Associated Press reported.
“Afghanistan is finally free,” Hekmatuhha Wasiq, a Taliban official, told the AP. “The military and civilian side (of the airport) are with us and in control. Hopefully, we will be announcing our Cabinet. Everything is peaceful. Everything is safe,” Wasiq said.

Second, the awards seem to grow flashier the farther their bearers drift from the actual shooting. I will use myself as an example: I served in the Marine Corps for five years. During that time, I saw no combat. Also during that time, I was given five awards. They are as follows: . . . […] In contrast, my grandfather served as a private in the U.S. Army and fought against Hitler’s Wehrmacht in France and Germany. He fought on the front lines the entire time. He came back with a Bronze Star for heroism, a Purple Heart for wounds sustained from a grenade, and a campaign medal. My grandfather killed Nazis for a year straight and took a grenade to the leg. For his troubles, he received three awards. I did my non-combat job fairly well, kept in shape, drank too much, and haven’t received any letters stating the kid was mine. For this, I received five awards. The timing could not be more dangerous. China has changed strategic direction and has been building its nuclear stockpile and delivery systems. China also has continued to develop hypersonic weapons, including stand-off “carrier killers,” space weapons and cyber capabilities to blind opponents’ strategic and conventional systems. Russia has been advertising (mostly for domestic consumption, but nonetheless worrying) its “unstoppable” delivery systems, and has a very capable nuclear stockpile and military. Iran will continue to move forward with building nuclear weapons. Pakistan and India both have significant nuclear capability in an increasingly unstable part of the world. Nuclear-armed North Korea is again assuming a more belligerent posture. Israel has a full nuclear triad (land, air, subs) to respond to existential aggression. The U.K. and France have significant nuclear deterrents. The world is a powder keg.

Perennial Democratic White House aide, congressman, Chicago mayor, and ambassador-in-waiting Rahm Emmanuel’s sole memorable utterance—his only candidate for Bartlett’s—is his cynical 2008 maxim that the good guys (i.e., his team) must “never let a serious crisis go to waste.” He was speaking of using the financial crisis to usher in sweeping changes to law, policy, the economy, and society that would otherwise not have been possible through ordinary democratic processes. The same logic applies now to the Democrats’—and many Republicans’—insistence that America be flooded with Afghan “refugees.” Importing as many immigrants as possible, from cultures as alien to traditional America as possible, is the ruling class’s top priority, after protecting its own wealth and power. But since importing millions upon millions of foreigners is the primary tool by which the ruling class maintains that wealth and power—by suppressing wage growth and dividing the population—it can be hard to disaggregate these two priorities. The parallels between the two crises are obvious. Just as ruling class hubris, incompetence, dishonesty, and greed created the financial crisis, so did a similar combination produce the mess in Afghanistan. There is no need to rehash the “higher” motives for the failure here. It is worth noting, however, that lower motives were not absent: a lot of people were making a lot of money off that war.
