A group of 27 clinicians, researchers and advocates last week filed an urgent Citizen Petition with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) urging the agency not to prematurely grant full approval to any COVID vaccine. “Premature FDA approval of any COVID-19 vaccine could negatively impact the health and safety of U.S. residents, with global ramifications considering the international importance of FDA decisions,” the group said. The FDA citizen petition process, described in Title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations (21 CFR Part 10), allows individuals and community organizations to request the agency make changes to health policy. At any time, any “interested person” can request the FDA “issue, amend or revoke a regulation or order,” or “take or refrain from taking any other form of administrative action.” In their petition, the group outlined many unanswered questions surrounding the efficacy and safety of COVID vaccines, and detailed how data must be collected before the FDA considers granting any vaccine full approval. Sixties radicals tutored America on long hair, wire-rim eyeglasses, and who was a drag, a square, a bummer, and who was hip, cool, groovy, mellow, and far out. Most of these silly revolutionaries were not unhinged Weathermen killers or SDS would-be Communists, but just adolescents along for the good-time ride.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI), a measure of U.S. economic inflation, continued climbing quickly in May, surpassing economists’ expectations for another month. CPI rose 0.6% in May, according to Department of Labor data released Thursday, bringing the annual CPI increase to 5%, well over the 4.7% predicted by economists interviewed by The Wall Street Journal. Core CPI, a measure of consumer good prices minus the more volatile indexes for food and energy, rose 0.7% in May after a 0.9% jump in April. […] Experts are still unsure of when inflation may slow. Inflation rates are expected to stay high throughout the summer as demand returns after taking a long hiatus during the pandemic.

President Joe Biden has unveiled his proposed budget and, unsurprisingly, it contains plenty of bad news for pro-lifers and pre-born children. Biden is the most pro-abortion president in American history, and appears determined to normalize abortion as a social good as much as possible during his term.
Previous presidents, including Barack Obama, were content to push abortion while respecting the consensus that taxpayers should not fund them in the form of the Hyde Amendment. Biden’s budget excludes the Hyde Amendment, paving the way for a massive increase in taxpayer-funded abortions. To give context for this move — which might seem like a wonky and obscure policy debate to some — I talked to Dr. Michael New, the pro-life movement’s premier statistician. New is a Research Associate of Political Science and Social Research at The Catholic University of America with a Ph.D. in Political Science from Stanford, and also serves as an Associate Scholar at the pro-life Charlotte Lozier Institute.
