The False Basis for Impeaching Trump Again
Did President Trump explicitly or implicitly call for people to breach the U.S. Capitol Building or to commit violence against any Congressman or officer?
The impeachment resolution passed mainly by Democrats against President Trump claims that he is guilty of “inciting violence against the Government of the United States” because he stated earlier that day “if you don’t fight like hell you’re not going to have a country anymore.”
Those words are taken out of context, as Trump used the word “fight” 20 times in the same speech but never called for or implied physical fighting. Instead, he was clear that he was speaking about legal means of fighting. For example, he said that Rudy Giuliani has “guts, he fights.”
Furthermore, Trump emphasized that people should go “to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.”
Major media outlets and Democrats similarly twisted Trump’s words when they impeached him in 2020 and in the aftermath of the violence in Charlottesville.
