This ultimately serves the purpose of securing their loyalty in the absence of a theological justification for ruling. I then went on to describe how raison du monde – the doctrine by which ‘global governance’ regimes act in their own interests and ignore constraints of law or natural right – also frequently comes in a benevolent guise, for precisely the same reasons. In the absence of other justifications for the existence of such regimes that would secure their position, they frequently present themselves as acting to solve ‘global problems’ in need of ‘global solutions.’ This often requires problems to be framed as being impossible for one country acting on its own to solve for itself. The principle difference between the State and global governance regimes in this regard is hence the target audience.

Durden: YouTuber Guilty For Selling ‘Metal Cards’ That DoJ Says Are “Machine Gun Conversion Devices”
A Wisconsin gun dealer whose YouTube channel has 180,000 subscribers was convicted of “conspiring to transfer unregistered machine gun conversion devices” that were nothing more than metal bottle openers etched with patterns called “lightning links” that, when milled, can convert a semiautomatic AR-15 rifle into an automatic machine gun. Gun dealer Matthew Hoover, who operated the CRS Firearms channel, was found “guilty of conspiring to transfer unregistered machine gun conversion devices that they referred to as “Auto Key Cards,”” the Department of Justice wrote in a press release. He was convicted of four counts of transferring unregistered machine gun conversion devices and faces 45 years in jail. […] The DoJ said it took ATF agents about “40 minutes” to remove the pieces from the metal card via a Dremel rotary tool. Last Thursday, defense attorneys for the men argued the firearms law doesn’t cover their clients because it doesn’t restrict items that could ‘potentially’ be made into conversion devices.

Catenacci: Ted Cruz, Byron Donalds take action to eliminate federal agency
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., are unleashing an effort to eliminate the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). The lawmakers are introducing a bill Thursday to repeal the Consumer Financial Protection Act that created the agency and restore federal laws “as if the act had not been enacted,” according to a copy of the bill obtained by Fox News Digital. Since it was established in 2010, Republican lawmakers and financial groups have criticized the CFPB as an unnecessary agency. “The CFPB is an utter and complete waste of government spending and should be eliminated,” Cruz, who is the ranking member of the Senate Commerce Committee, told Fox News Digital in a statement. “It is entirely ineffective and does very little to protect consumers.”

Lynch: Catholic Group Sues FBI, DOJ For Records Related To Leaked Memo Targeting Catholics
CatholicVote filed the lawsuit Thursday with Judicial Watch after the FBI and DOJ failed to comply with a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request filed March 8, the lawsuit says. The FBI acknowledged the request on March 14 and said it would not be able to provide records within the typical 20-day timeline for FOIA requests because of “unusual circumstances.” FOIA norms require agencies to respond within 20 days to FOIA requests and grants them an extra 10 days for “unusual circumstances.” The plaintiffs filed the lawsuit because the FBI and DOJ did not produce the records for over a month, according to a CatholicVote press release.

Las Vegas high-school English teacher Laura Jeanne Penrod initially thought the grading changes at her school district made sense. Under the overhaul, students are given more chances to prove they have mastered a subject without being held to arbitrary deadlines, in recognition of challenges some children have outside school. Soon after the system was introduced, however, Ms. Penrod said her 11th-grade honors students realized the new rules minimized the importance of homework to their final grades, leading many to forgo the brainstorming and rough drafts required ahead of writing a persuasive essay. Some didn’t turn in the essay at all, knowing they could redo it later. “They’re relying on children having intrinsic motivation, and that is the furthest thing from the truth for this age group,” said Ms. Penrod, a teacher for 17 years. […] Equitable grading can take different forms, but the systems aim to measure whether a student knows the classroom material by the end of a term without penalties for behavior, which, under the theory, can introduce bias. Homework is typically played down and students are given multiple opportunities to complete tests and assignments.
Hathaway: Washington school district to cut music classes for promoting ‘white supremacy’ and ‘institutional violence’
Olympia School District, which comprises 19 schools that enroll nearly 10,000 students, held a school board meeting last week in which board members voted to eliminate the district’s music classes. During a three-hour meeting on April 13, the board discussed cutting fourth- and fifth-grade band and orchestra classes to accommodate that district’s $11.5 million budget shortfall and combat racism. The black hole, which is 6.5 billion times more massive than the Sun, is located in the center of Messier 87 (M87), an elliptical galaxy 55 million light-years from Earth. The recent observations could help reveal how black hole jets are created, scientists said in a statement. “The image was obtained with the GMVA, ALMA and the GLT, forming a network of radio-telescopes around the globe working together as a virtual Earth-sized telescope,” a press release posted to the European Southern Observatory’s website explains.
