Apparently, some Indianapolis public officials have forgotten how their own self-defense laws work and why they exist in the first place.

In an interview that’s equal parts amusing and alarming, Indiana’s Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears recently lamented an increase in self-defense shootings in Indianapolis. Mears complained to reporters that shootings involving self-defense claims are challenging to prosecute. This “mean[s] that someone lost their life” and “that case might ultimately be cleared” without the shooter being charged, he said. Mears also implied that defensive gun users who can’t be prosecuted are just as bad as the criminals they shot, simply by virtue of the fact that both parties were armed.

DNH is a medical advocacy group that Dr. Stanley Goldfarb founded after the University of Pennsylvania forcibly “retired” him when he wrote an essay for the Wall Street Journal challenging medical schools’ focus on social justice rather than medicine. One of the left’s biggest political targets recently found himself “de-banked” with no warning and little avenue for recourse, the Daily Caller has learned. John Eastman, once an attorney for former President Donald Trump, was de-banked twice in the span of several months by two prominent financial institutions, Bank of America and USAA, he told the Daily Caller. His accounts were closed as he faced substantial backlash for his work advising Trump around the time of the 2020 election. Eastman said he had switched most of his banking from Bank of America to USAA, a company that provides financial services exclusively to military veterans as well as their families, due to the former’s “wokeness.” Both corporations are federally insured, and Bank of America was bailed out with billions of dollars in taxpayer funds during the global financial crisis.

When Eastman inquired about the closures, the banks said it was their policy to not provide any more information on the matter, he told the Daily Caller. An audio recording of Eastman’s call to Bank of America, provided to the Daily Caller, reflects as much. […] “De-banking” is a phenomenon in which financial institutions refuse financial service to the targets of political activism, who often end up being conservatives. It’s time for the Supreme Court to jettison the doctrine known as Chevron deference, which forces federal courts to surrender their judicial function to the unaccountable bureaucrats of the administrative state. This past January, the high court heard arguments in two cases—Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo and Relentless Inc. v. Commerce Department—that present the opportunity to do just that. A decision in these cases is expected by June. Article III, Section 1 of the Constitution vests the “judicial Power of the United States” in “one supreme Court” and “such inferior Courts as the Congress may […] establish.” As this language makes clear, the Supreme Court is the head of the judicial branch of our federal government. It sits atop the judiciary and superintends the decision-making of lower courts through the opinions it hands down. […] Under Chevron, the courts are told to defer to the agency’s interpretation if the part of the statute at issue has more than one plausible reading, even if the court believes there’s a better interpretation that’s more faithful to the statute Congress enacted. Right away we notice something strange about this instruction: In its unanimous 1984 decision in Chevron U.S.A. Inc. v. Natural Resources Defense Council, the Supreme Court is telling the lower courts to abdicate a portion of their judicial power—to cede it to administrative agencies. […] Nothing prevents the Supreme Court from making this correction in the two cases currently pending on its docket. Chevron is an exercise of the court’s prudential power to supervise the judicial functions of the lower courts; it’s not a statutory or constitutional doctrine, and it’s not subject to any strong form of stare decisis (which means “let the decision stand”). Eliminating Chevron deference would help restore balance among the three branches of government.

Top-down attempts to fundamentally re-engineer communities in the name of “housing justice” are particularly dangerous. Devolution and localism are important principles in housing policy; a neighborhood in the Bronx might look different from one in Palm Springs, and communities ought to build homes in ways that honor the best of their character and history. Harbor Springs, a vacation town in northern Michigan, is discovering this lesson first-hand.[…] It is understandable that residents are protective of Harbor Springs, having seen the destruction of other beautiful, historic communities at the hands of “central planning.” It is questionable whether Harbor Springs even needs more housing, given that the current homeowner vacancy rate, according to census bureau data, is 9.7 percent, meaning one in ten dwellings is available. […] There is good reason to fear that state involvement in local planning is likely to turn into ideologically motivated strong-arming to the eventual detriment of Harbor Springs. Federal government programs have sought to push suburbs to build more apartment buildings and other multi-family dwellings, sometimes under pain of loss of necessary funding (road maintenance, for instance); many on the Left have come to view single-family zoning as “racist” simply because many members of ethnic minorities are unable to afford homeownership.

Fleetwood: California Sues Huntington Beach To Overturn Voter ID Measure Approved By Voters

California Attorney General Rob Bonta sued Huntington Beach on Monday in an effort to prevent a voter ID law passed by city residents from taking effect. “The right to freely cast your vote is the foundation of our democracy and Huntington Beach’s voter ID policy flies in the face of this principle,” Bonta, a Democrat, baselessly claimed during a press conference. Passed by city voters during last month’s California primaries, Huntington Beach Measure A amends the city charter by authorizing the local government to require electors to provide identification to vote in municipal elections. The provision — which won’t take effect until 2026 — also allows the city to “provide more in-person voting locations” and “monitor ballot drop-boxes.”

Lyman: Unofficial Voter Registration Site Collects Pennsylvanians’ Info For ‘Political Activities’

A left-wing website has been using a near-identical domain name as the Pennsylvania State Department to register new voters — with the catch that those voters’ contact information may be used for “political efforts and activities,” according to a report by Broad and Liberty’s Todd Shepherd. […] Voters who use the unofficial site are presumably registered with the State Department, but only after being forced to provide a phone number — which is optional when using the state’s official website, according to Shepherd. If you use vote.pa to register to vote, “don’t be surprised a few weeks later if the website is also sliding into your text messages urging you to vote for your local Democratic candidate,” Shepherd said. A box on the registration form gives registrants the option to “opt-in for SMS messages,” but the form doesn’t say what kinds of messages users are signing up for — and many voters might assume they’re simply signing up for Election Day reminders.

Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., announced on social media Tuesday that he’s co-sponsoring a motion to vacate the chair against House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La. In doing so, Massie joined the motion to vacate push against Johnson launched by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., in March. Massie is the first other Republican to back Greene in the effort. “I just told Mike Johnson in conference that I’m co-sponsoring the Motion to Vacate that was introduced by [Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene],” Massie wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “He should pre-announce his resignation (as Boehner did), so we can pick a new Speaker without ever being without a GOP Speaker.” That’s a reference to another former House speaker, Rep. John Boehner, R-Ohio.

Israel’s Channel 12 reported on Monday that the war cabinet in Jerusalem has decided to respond to the recent aerial attack by the Iran regime “clearly and forcefully,” to send a message that the Jewish state “will not allow an attack of that magnitude against it to pass without a reaction.”

The news broadcaster stated that the Israeli Air Force is currently preparing for the retaliatory strike, although no official timeline was given.

In April in Teaneck, New Jersey, outside one of the town’s largest synagogues, approximately 100 “pro-Palestinian” protesters, many of whom had been bused in for the occasion, attempted to disrupt an event honoring ZAKA volunteers. ZAKA is an Israeli humanitarian search-and-rescue organization that ensures proper burial for Jews, including the victims of terrorist attacks. Several volunteers had traveled to Teaneck to share their firsthand accounts of what they saw in Israel after the barbaric attacks by Hamas on October 7. Outside, an angry mob waved posters falsely accusing Israel of genocide and, as FreedomNews.tv footage showed, chanted, “Allahu Akbar!” and “Intifada Revolution!” By contrast, a large pro-Israel crowd that had gathered to prevent the protesters from disrupting the event played Israeli music and sang “The Star-Spangled Banner.” One month earlier, nearly 800 protesters attempted to disrupt another synagogue event in Teaneck, again calling for intifada, hurling anti-Semitic insults, and spitting on and physically threatening Jews trying to get to the synagogue. Multiple law-enforcement agencies had to respond to quell the “pro-Palestinian” mob. If only read or listened only to mainstream media, you might not have known about either of these events […] Why aren’t these anti-Semitic attacks front-page stories? Why aren’t they given the kind of relentless scrutiny that anti-Semitism on the right has properly received in these same outlets?
