Killough: Government watchdog files complaint vs. NOAA over ‘scientific violations’ in climate change report

In its complaint, which cites Pielke’s research, PPT notes the influence of NOAA’s disaster reporting has on federal policy and research on climate change. The U.S. Global Change Research Program cites the figures as a “climate change indicator,” and they were cited in the Fifth U.S. National Climate Assessment as evidence that “extreme weather events are becoming more frequent and severe.” NOAA’s figures have also been cited in nearly 1,000 articles, according to Google Scholar. “Sensational climate claims made without proper scientific basis and spread by government officials threaten the public’s trust in its scientific officials and undermines the government’s mission of stewarding the environment,” PPT states in its complaint. Pielke showed that NOAA periodically added and removed events without providing any documentation or justification for the changes. The agency lacks any transparency of its sources, input data or methodologies used for the annual report, according to Pielke’s study, and this makes it impossible for an independent researcher to verify the agency’s findings.

Newly released videos show federal agents arriving to execute a search warrant on the home of the administrator of a local airport in Little Rock, Arkansas. The raid-gone-wrong in the predawn hours of March 19 ultimately led to the death of the administrator, Bryan Malinowski, after a brief standoff with the agents. These videos, as well as a search warrant and affidavit previously published, shed light on why an administrator at the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport was under investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). According to the ATF he was allegedly selling firearms without the proper licenses—some of which were reportedly used in crimes—and for misrepresenting his purpose on purchase forms. Regardless of the allegations, Bud Cummins, the lawyer representing Malinowski’s estate, has concerns about whether the ATF followed proper procedures executing the search and noted that the ATF has not released footage from Body Worn Cameras (BWC) the agents are required to use, possibly violating administration policy established in the wake of major police-involved shootings.

Wind advocates are prone to dismissing concerns about the intermittency of their preferred generation source by claiming, without evidence, that the wind is “always blowing somewhere,” and building more transmission will fix the inherent problems with variable generation.

The video below, a Facebook ad titled “AWEA Transmission” from the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), is a perfect example of this type of handwavery. However, the data clearly demonstrates the wind isn’t always blowing somewhere. Sometimes, wind turbines shut down over large swathes of the country because it is too cold for them to operate, sometimes they ice up, and sometimes, widespread “wind droughts” occur when the wind just isn’t blowing very hard. These wind droughts don’t just occur during extreme weather events. Wind droughts can happen at any time and are fairly common. While 55% of Americans said last year that they were considering an EV purchase, that figure has declined to 44%, according to a Gallup poll conducted in March and published Monday. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) on Friday announced that it had detected Russian military aircraft operating in the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ). The Alaska ADIZ is a portion of international airspace adjacent to American airspace within which the U.S. requires the identification of all aircraft for security purposes. “The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) detected and tracked four Russian military aircraft operating in the Alaska Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) on 5 April 2024,” the organization stated in a press release. “The Russian aircraft remained in international airspace and did not enter American or Canadian sovereign airspace. This Russian activity in the Alaska ADIZ occurs regularly and is not seen as a threat.”

Hayek: Don’t Let Biden Redefine Women

From the campaign trail to the Oval Office, President Joe Biden is continuing to zero in on women’s healthcare. In fact, he just recently signed a 100-million-dollar executive order to advance “women’s health research.” According to this new executive order, the research will be directed by first lady Jill Biden and, of course, the Biden administration’s newly established “Gender Policy Council,” which is a far-left, radical group of ideologues who promote late-term abortion and advance radical gender ideology throughout the country. The research will be led by Dr. Carolyn Mazure of Yale University, who is an emphatic proponent of abortion, “gender theory,” and Planned Parenthood. In 2021, she co-authored an article that stated, “What do we mean by sex and gender? Aren’t these terms interchangeable? Perhaps at some point in time, they were used as synonyms, but this is no longer true in science.” She then rattles off the same gender theory that we hear from the LGBTQ community on the daily. Dr. Mazure represents a radical belief about gender that it is merely a form of self-representation, writing that gender is just “assigned at birth” rather than intrinsically part of one’s being. […] If the Biden administration’s goal is to support women, it’s difficult to see exactly how they do. We’re just three years into his presidency, and an agenda that’s very anti-women is hard to miss.

COVID lockdowns, soon followed by the government money giveaway—PPP loans, augmented unemployment benefits, rent relief, and other stimulus plans—disrupted our routines and affected the entire economy. While these measures likely prevented a deep recession, the shutdowns ruined a lot of businesses, and the various stimulus funds ended up unleashing inflation. These policies also catalyzed a number of unpredictable changes, particularly to labor markets. Many changed jobs, moved, slowed down, and, in some cases, dropped out entirely in an event called the Great Resignation. Well into 2022, managers complained repeatedly that employees were hard to come by and “no one wanted to work.”

If anything, then, the zoning battle now blazing across Massachusetts is a pale shadow of what we’d be in for under a second Biden term. It’s already happening in Massachusetts, where the local-versus-state zoning clash is big news on a regular basis, and the governor and attorney general are fully entangled in the mess.

During the COVID lockdowns, US homeschooling doubled from six to more than eleven percent, and more importantly, three-quarters of new parent-educators stuck with it after the schools reopened. This seems a deliberate rejection of the public schools. New parent-educators may be discovering what the public schools now reject, and what a family-friendly culture nurtures: education in the nature of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty. This we must recover.

Public school “experts” are trashing traditional education in virtue and citizenship in favor of victimhood and dependency. The inheritance of Western Civilization has been officially discarded by irresponsible intellectuals, determined to advance their “progressive” ideologies. These ideologies, pushing kids to discover “their own truths,” are generally varieties of “subjectivism” or “relativism.” Critical theory deliberately undercuts our natural commonsense, the shared foundation of a free society, by teaching children that their homes, communities, and even their own physiology are their worst enemies, the foes of their real identities. Ideologues do this by “reducing” our natural experience of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty to “no more than” materialistic “animal instincts” (Modernism), that then give rise to oppressive “social constructs” (Postmodernism), and, presto, an epidemic of anxiety. This cynical challenge of a natural understanding of reality—sexuality and family, crime and punishment, innovation and productivity, self-reliance and free society—is deliberately intended to render ordinary citizens insecure and submissive to the rule of a central authority. […] Parents have Reality on their side, and historical experience testifies that these recurring efforts by political elites to make themselves Masters of the Universe—building Towers of Babel—inevitably end in their own collapse. As in Times of Lunacy Past, we can never know the day of the return to sanity, but we should always stand in a posture of waiting. During its March 25, 2024 meeting, the Arizona State Board of Education took action against a number of “educators” who had engaged in unprofessional behavior ranging from grooming and other inappropriate relationships with students all the way to domestic violence. One case in particular, involving a transgendered teacher in the Amphitheater Unified School District, has brought into sharp focus the concerns parents have about teachers who are not licensed to counsel, but who hold themselves out as counselors to students. The case outlined against educator Erin Quigley not only raises questions about the professionalism of teachers, but of the administrators who are supposed to be providing oversight of the classrooms. […] During an interview of a student in your class, administration also learned that you periodically leave the students in your sports medicine class unattended to take a couple of students into a storage closet for up to 20 minutes.

Parents of children with legally recognized special needs are fighting school districts for transparency on how they are treated, including with regard to gender identity, in lawsuits from the lowest to the highest federal courts. Their resolution could determine not only what public schools must divulge to parents about their own children but whether Americans may hold public officials accountable by documenting their interactions outside of traditional public settings. The Supreme Court petition by the Goldwater Institute seeks to resolve a split in the federal circuit courts of appeals over whether “recording public employees doing their jobs is inherently expressive, and therefore constitutionally protected per se,” regardless of other conditions, as four circuits recognize.[…] A new lawsuit by the Child and Parental Rights Campaign (CPRC), on behalf of Pennsylvania parent Michelle Landerer, argues public schools violate the First and Fourteenth Amendment rights of parents by socially transitioning their children to gender identities at odds with their sex. The Dover Area School District knew that Landerer’s 14-year-old daughter “O.G.,” a victim of unspecified “sexual trauma,” had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, attention deficit disorder and general anxiety disorder yet secretly called her by a male name and pronouns, which is “antithetical to her health and well-being,” according to the suit.

Mion: 2 Texas principals charged for violating state election laws

Two principals in a Texas school district are facing criminal charges after allegedly violating state election laws by using their school emails to urge staff to vote for candidates who oppose school choice. Alexander Elementary School Principal Lindsey Lujan and Borman Elementary Principal Jesus Lujan, who are married, work in the Denton Independent School District. The two administrators emailed staff in February encouraging them to vote in March’s Republican primary election for candidates who oppose GOP Gov. Greg Abbott’s school voucher plan, court documents show, according to Fox 4.

UCLA’s medical school has declared on its website that its fundamental mission is to champion “Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.” In pursuit of achieving “equity,” the website states, “We have a collective commitment to combat structural racism.” Its “anti-racism roadmap” includes developing “an advisory committee to include experts in critical race theory, social justice, bias, and health disparities.” The school’s reading list includes books by leading critical race theorists. They include Robin DiAngelo’s “White fragility: Why it’s so hard for white people to talk about racism” and Ibram X. Kendi’s “How to be an antiracist.” UCLA is not an outlier. Indoctrination in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (“DEI”) and Critical Race Theory dogmas is being force fed to medical school students and faculty across the country. The Oregon Health and Science University’s “Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism Strategic Action Plan,” for example, requires “ongoing training and learning opportunities related to DEI and anti-racism for learners, staff, faculty and administrative leaders.” There will be “consequences for individuals who are not compliant with the required training,” the strategic action plan warns. This includes incorporating “DEI, anti-racism and social justice core competencies in performance appraisals of faculty and staff.” […] Harvard Medical School states […] The Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons’ Anti-Racism Task Force recommended […] AAMC refers readers of its 2022 paper to the meaning of “equity,” as opposed to “equality,” set forth in a another document entitled “Advancing Health Equity: Guide to Language, Narrative and Concept” prepared by AAMC in association with the American Medical Association (“AMA”). In an interview with the Tennessee Informer last month, Friend recalled his experience at the FBI Academy in 2014: “We were shown a video that was produced by the Southern Poverty Law Center.” The film, Friend said, “ranked people who oppose abortion, pro-life activists, as a greater threat than Islamists.” “I don’t know if they still show that,” Friend added, “but that’s what we were shown.” The FBI still relies on SPLC material a decade later, leading a pair of top Republican senators to demand the agency sever ties with the leftist hate group that routinely smears right-of-center associations as “hate groups.” SPLC’s false “hate group” designations led to a domestic terrorist attack in 2012 on the offices of a pro-family organization.

An email exchange between the Athens, Georgia, mayor and the Athens-Clarke County sheriff shortly after the murder of Laken Riley showed the officials scrambling to defend the county’s policies on detainer requests from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The email thread obtained through the Georgia Open Records Act and revealed by Rep. Mike Collins (R-GA) earlier this week shows Athens Democratic Mayor Kelly Girtz and Sheriff John Williams discussing the county’s policy that does not honor detainer requests from ICE. Riley, a 22-year-old Georgia nursing student, was allegedly murdered by an illegal immigrant while she was on a run near the university’s campus in February.

AP: NAIA essentially bans transgender athletes from women’s sports

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, the governing body for mostly small colleges, announced a policy Monday that all but bans transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports. The NAIA Council of Presidents approved the policy in a 20-0 vote. The NAIA, which oversees some 83,000 athletes at schools across the country, is believed to be the first college sports organization to take such a step.

Velleco: Clinton Allies Attack ‘Good Guy with a Gun’

A left-wing group led by Hillary Clinton’s 2016 Campaign Chairman claims a “good guy with a gun” is a bad thing. Tell that to the good guy with a gun in Fort Worth who saved his own life, and maybe his children’s lives as well, from shooter JaDerek Gray, who opened fire on him in a road rage incident on I-35 West. Gray was driving his motorcycle between lanes, which is illegal in Texas. The hero, driving an SUV next to Gray, couldn’t see him and tried to change lanes. Gray, furious, passed the SUV and parked his motorcycle in the middle of the highway, stopping traffic, witnesses said. Gray then pulled a gun and pointed it at the hero, who was in his vehicle with his children. According to Fort Worth police, “the driver of the SUV asked him to please put the gun down,” but investigators believe Gray fired his weapon, missing. The hero pulled out his own gun and shot Gray, killing him before Gray could shoot him or his children. That’s not good enough for the Center for American Progress (CAP), a radical think tank in Washington, D.C., founded by the infamous John Podesta, who helped engineer Russia-gate after helping Russian interests get a “Russian reset.” CAP just released an astonishing paper asserting—this is a quote—that “guns used for self-defense are not common, beneficial for society, or efficient in deterring mass shootings or criminal victimization.” Really? A gun seemed pretty efficient in Fort Worth, and up to 2.8 million times per year regardless.
