Turco: Hostility Against Churches Is on the Rise in the United States – Analyzing Incidents from 2018-2023
Over the past several years, Family Research Council has been tracking acts of hostility against churches in the United States. Between January 2018 and November 2023, at least 915 acts of hostility occurred. The types of acts include vandalism, arson, gun-related incidents, bomb threats, and more. In 2023, Family Research Council identified 436 incidents—more than double the number identified in 2022 and more than eight times the number identified in 2018. These findings suggest that hostility against U.S. churches is not only on the rise but also accelerating.
Acts of hostility against churches are destructive and have the potential to intimidate a religious community. Therefore, they deserve to be condemned.

The official story from the Fulton County DA and her former lover Nathan Wade, made through sworn filings and sworn testimony, was that their “personal relationship” started in 2022. In a February 2, 2022 filing, DA Willis submitted Wade’s affidavit to the Court which stated: “In 2022, District Attorney Willis and I developed a personal relationship.” DA Willis and Wade both testified that the relationship started sometime in early 2022. But Wade’s cell phone records disprove their official story – and prove that Willis and Wade lied under oath before the Court. In a filing today from President Trump’s attorneys, records indicate that the “relationship” between DA Willis and Wade was romantic well-before Wade’s November 1, 2021 appointment by Willis as Special Prosecutor.

Among the biggest revelations is that the program was established a decade ago and spans three different American presidents. The Times says the CIA program to modernize Ukraine’s intelligence services has “transformed” the former Soviet state and its capabilities into “Washington’s most important intelligence partners against the Kremlin today.” This has included the agency having secretly trained and equipped Ukrainian intelligence officers spanning back to just after the 2014 Maidan coup events, as well constructing a network of 12 secret bases along the Russian border—work which began eight years ago. These intelligence bases, from which Russian commanders’ communications can be swept up and Russian spy satellites monitored, are being used launch and track cross-border drone and missile attacks on Russian territory. This was widely seen as a veiled threat to the members of parliament, and with very good reason.

In “The Goals of the War in Gaza – and the Strategy for Achieving Them,” published by the Institute for National Security Studies in Tel Aviv, my friend Azar Gat provides an excellent guide to Israel’s internal national security debate. A Tel Aviv University political science professor and military history scholar, Gat sketches in unadorned terms Israel’s war aims and strategy. He also briskly evaluates the major doubts about the government’s plans and the leading alternatives. His compelling conclusion is that Israel’s principal objectives – destruction of Hamas’ military and governmental capabilities and liberation of the hostages – “are vital and can be achieved simultaneously.” Gat can insist on the unity of Israel’s goals because he understands them in context and tempers expectations in light of the harsh realities of Middle East politics in general and of Gaza in particular.

As I have progressed through the pages of Guardini’s masterpiece, I find that her question was remarkably apropos. The first third of the book is dedicated to a thorough explanation of, among other things, the various stages of the human being, past, present, and future. While the author would prefer to dwell on each at length, he will limit himself to stages—the homeless man, the technological man, and the mass man—before offering some concluding connections and thoughts. The Homeless Man In a relatively few pages, Guardini traces the evolution of human nature itself from being focused on God and His order, to being about man and his disorder. In his furious attempt to transcend his own natural limits, man has […] The Technological Man Prior to the twentieth century, technological advancement was slow, gradual, and controlled. That which was created by man was created purely to serve, to fill a need. No farmer was ever ruled by his plow, nor a carpenter by his jig set. Modern man, however, is not connected to his work, […] The man engaged today in the labor of ‘technics’ knows full well that technology moves forward in final analysis neither for profit nor for the well-being of the race. He knows in the most radical sense of the term that power is its motive—a lordship of all, so that man seizes hold of the naked elements of both nature and human nature. The Mass Man […] Defined as “the man who is absorbed by technology and rational abstraction,” the Mass Man is the logical progression from the technological takeover. He is also, as it happens, the man of our own time. Guardini, not one to mince words, describes him thusly:
