Regarding the favored 25-54 demographic, the two networks were slightly more evenly matched, but Fox was still best with 576,000 viewers versus CNN’s 515,000.

Datoc: White House cheers Maryland as first state to advance Biden gun violence initiative
The Biden administration cheered Gov. Wes Moore (D-MD) Thursday for proposing to create a statewide gun violence prevention office, making Maryland the first state to take up an initiative put forth by the White House in late 2023. Moore introduced three gun violence-focused bills on Tuesday ahead of the state’s legislative session, one of which would launch an office modeled after the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention launched by President Joe Biden in September. The White House office, overseen by Vice President Kamala Harris, in turn charged states and localities with forming their own offices as part of the administration’s “Safer States Initiative” in December. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told the Washington Examiner during Thursday’s press briefing that Moore’s action is “important” and that the White House is “glad to see” states beginning to take up proposals coming out of the gun violence office.

Duffy-Alfonso: Hunter Biden Flipped Congress The Bird To Get B-Roll For His Damage-Control Documentary
Hunter Biden made a 10-minute surprise appearance before the House Oversight Committee Wednesday before dramatically departing when Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene attempted to question him. At Hunter’s side throughout the ordeal was his lawyer, also known as his “sugar brother,” Kevin Morris. Morris has lent Hunter millions of dollars over the last few years and is currently producing a puff documentary about Hunter. Some theorized that Hunter’s hearing appearance meant to dissuade lawmakers from holding him in contempt of Congress. As Greene pointed out on X, however, Hunter’s appearance only accents that he has refused to comply with House and Senate deposition subpoenas related to the alleged Biden bribery scandal. Hunter’s noncompliance is why representatives ultimately voted to hold the president’s son in contempt yesterday.
Hunter’s appearance is also likely meant to create fodder for Morris’s upcoming documentary about Hunter. The film seeks to garner sympathy for the president’s son and suppress his distasteful life choices, such as drug addiction, hookers, child abandonment, and allegations that he and his father sold out America to foreign adversaries.

Just a few months ago, Hertz committed to making electric vehicles a quarter of its rental fleet. They had already announced an intent to partner with Tesla as a major provider for their future fleet, which had pushed Tesla’s value even higher. Supposedly, the scale of the demand and usage would lower costs across the board and make fleet maintenance all that much easier for Hertz and other rental agencies. Now, however, Hertz has hit reverse — and taken a big hit to its bottom line. Bloomberg reports today that the leading rental company wants to sell off a full third of its existing EVs and replace them with gasoline-powered vehicles:

Earle: $34 Trillion and Climbing
Just before the start of 2024, the US Federal debt surpassed a new milestone: $34 trillion. In 2023 the US added $2.65 trillion in debt, the second largest annual increase in history after the 2020 increase of $4.5 trillion. Going back to 1995, Federal Debt has increased by just over $1 trillion per year, but since 2010 that number has jumped to $1.7 trillion annually. The surge comes amid mounting warnings from credit rating agencies and a “soft” repudiation of both the US dollar and US government-issued securities. The time taken to surpass successive $10 trillion milestones has dropped. After crossing the $1 trillion dollar mark for the first time in 1981, the Federal debt didn’t surpass $10 trillion until 2008, 27 years later. It only took nine years to surpass $20 trillion (2017), and then a mere five years to eclipse $30 trillion (2022). Now, 22 months after that, the US is almost halfway to the $40 trillion point. (It’s difficult to imagine that the US Federal debt was, well within many of our lifetimes, less than one-third the current market capitalization of Apple, Inc., but that is indeed the case.)

Many years ago, a newspaper headline asked the question: “What’s the difference between a politician and a psychopath?” The answer, then and now, remains the same: None. There is no difference between psychopaths and politicians. Nor is there much of a difference between the havoc wreaked on innocent lives by uncaring, unfeeling, selfish, irresponsible, parasitic criminals and elected officials who lie to their constituents, trade political favors for campaign contributions, turn a blind eye to the wishes of the electorate, cheat taxpayers out of hard-earned dollars, favor the corporate elite, entrench the military industrial complex, and spare little thought for the impact their thoughtless actions and hastily passed legislation might have on defenseless citizens.Psychopaths and politicians both have a tendency to be selfish, callous, remorseless users of others, irresponsible, pathological liars, glib, con artists, lacking in remorse and shallow. Charismatic politicians, like criminal psychopaths, exhibit a failure to accept responsibility for their actions, have a high sense of self-worth, are chronically unstable, have socially deviant lifestyles, need constant stimulation, have parasitic lifestyles and possess unrealistic goals. It doesn’t matter whether you’re talking about Democrats or Republicans. […] We are fast becoming slaves in thrall to a faceless, nameless, bureaucratic totalitarian government machine that relentlessly erodes our freedoms through countless laws, statutes, and prohibitions. Any resistance to such regimes depends on the strength of opinions in the minds of those who choose to fight back. The Missouri senator proceeded to set Biden’s climate agenda on fire with one of the most clear and concise takedowns of the insane electric vehicle mandates put in place by the administration. I try not to overuse the phrase “must watch,” but the clip is just a little over a minute long and it’s worth every second.

Margolis: Biden Judicial Nominee Torched by Sen. Kennedy Goes Down in Flames
Last year, Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) exposed the utter incompetence of a number of Joe Biden’s judicial nominees. One of them was Charnelle Bjelkengren, whom Biden nominated for a seat on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington. She thoroughly embarrassed herself when she couldn’t even answer Kennedy’s basic questions about the Constitution. This week, Bjelkengren was one of three Biden nominees to request that their nominations be withdrawn. “I asked the President not to re-nominate me due to the uncertainty of my confirmation and in order to advance the important work of the federal judiciary,” Bjelkengren said in a statement. “My hope is for the swift confirmation of the next nominee.”

The federal government forces states like Arizona to give federal ballots to potential noncitizens, but messy voter rolls make matters worse. […] Election law expert Hans von Spakovsky says Arizona can thank a bad 2013 U.S. Supreme Court ruling for the confusion. The high court struck down an Arizona law that required voters to show proof of citizenship in national elections. In the majority opinion (7-2), the late Justice Antonin Scalia wrote that the state law conflicted with the 1993 National Voter Registration Act (NVRA), which mandates states “accept and use” the standardized federal voter registration form for national elections. The NVRA form, developed by the federal Election Assistance Commission, does not require proof of citizenship. It only asks an applicant “aver, under penalty of perjury, that he is a citizen.” In other words, the honor system.

It’s time for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and other women’s health organizations to speak out about these risks. […] the Supreme Court will be ruling later this year on an appeal by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals limiting access by mail to mifepristone. The appellate court overturned a portion of the lower court ruling rescinding the Federal Drug Administration’s long-standing approval of mifepristone. It left intact the ability for women to acquire the drug by mail until a SCOTUS ruling. Also left intact, however, were some restrictions, including the provision that mifepristone only be administered in the presence of a physician and only through the seventh week of pregnancy rather than the 10th. In all of this, pro-abortion activists and the medical community at large have minimized the inherent risks of a pregnant woman ingesting, unsupervised, the abortion drugs mifepristone and misoprostol. These risks are real. But they are, at this time, ignored, even by this country’s supposedly primary women’s medical support group, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). In the not-too-distant past, an obstetrician would be considered negligent if he or she did not weigh the well-known and well-documented risks associated with an undiagnosed ectopic pregnancy or the Rh status of a patient at the time of a miscarriage or abortion. So what has changed? Certainly not the inherent risks of these two complications.

A study in BMJ Oncology last year reported a sharp global rise in cancers in people under 50, with the highest rates in North America, Australia and Western Europe.

Another criminal mastermind known as ‘The Savage’ has broken out of prison in Ecuador as the country descends further into civil war between the army and warring gangs. Fabricio Colon Pico escaped alongside 37 other inmates from the Riobamba jail in central Ecuador earlier this week after armed thugs stormed the prison and took guards and staff members hostage. ‘The Savage’ was arrested just last Thursday having been accused of plotting to kill Ecuador’s Attorney General, Diana Salazar, and is already back on the streets following his jailbreak. Pico is one of the top dogs of Ecuador’s Los Lobos gang, affiliated with Albanian mobsters who help their South American colleagues to export drugs to West and North Africa, then on to Europe. As with the other cartels, Los Lobos run drug trafficking operations, making much of their income by moving drugs purchased by Mexican cartels from groups in Colombia, then exporting the product from various ports on Ecuador’s coastline.

Police arrest an LGBT pride leader Dec. 31 for alleged sex crimes against children, prosecutors informed CBC News on Monday. Former North Peace Pride Society (NPPS) President Sean Gravells of British Columbia faces charges of sexual interference with a person under 16, physical contact with a person under 16 for sexual purposes and possessing as well as importing or distributing child pornographic materials, Dan McLaughlin, a B.C. Prosecution Service (BCPS) spokesman, informed CBC News in a statement via email.
