Bailey goes on to explain in more detail what a typical home in Bethlehem would have been like, “Simple village houses had but two rooms. One was exclusively for guests. In the article, one of the Bedouin shepherds tells how “the animals live in the lower level and we live in the room above.” Bailey affirms, “Such simple homes can be traced from the time of David up to the middle of the twentieth century. I have seen them both in Upper Galilee and in Bethlehem.” ^[18] “Many houses in the area are still built in front of caves and perhaps we should envisage Joseph as taking his wife into such a back area to give birth away from the living room—the cave part would have been used for stabling and storage.” ^[19] So Joseph travels with Mary to Bethlehem. They seek lodging in the home of a relative, but the guest room (kataluma) on the roof is either already occupied or it is too small and inappropriate as a place for Mary to give birth, so they move to the warm stable/cave which makes up the lower level of the family home. There Jesus is born and is laid in one of the stone feeding troughs in the wall between the stable/cave and the main room of the house. This understanding of the story also connects with Matthew’s gospel that says the magi found Mary and the young child in a house rather than a stable/cave.

On top of that, he didn’t let Republican committee members speak up about judicial nominations they wanted to object to. Before the vote to subpoena, The Hill reports that “Republican members of the committee stormed out of the hearing room in the Hart building.” No Republicans voted on the motion that passed. Durbin went on with the vote “to prevent Republicans from delaying it until next week by invoking a rule to limit committee meetings to two hours.”

Trump-nominated federal judge has halted the removal of the Reconciliation Monument in Arlington National Cemetery, which the cemetery indicated Saturday would otherwise take place by week’s end. While the iconoclasts have been momentarily restrained, the fate of the historic monument, also called the Confederate Memorial, remains uncertain. (Too little too late?) New Texas Law Allows Police to Bust Illegals and Judges to Send Them Back to Mexico

Republican Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed legislation Monday that will allow police in the state to arrest migrants who cross the border illegally. The law, known as SB4, makes it a state crime to cross the Texas-Mexico border between ports of entry. The offense will be a Class B misdemeanor carrying a punishment of up to six months in jail. Repeat offenders would potentially face a second-degree felony and a punishment of two to 20 years in prison. The law, which takes effect in March, gives Texas judges the authority to order illegal immigrants to leave the country. Under the new law, illegal immigrants in police custody will be given the choice to either agree to the judge’s order to leave the U.S. or be prosecuted on misdemeanor charges of illegal entry. Judges will be able to drop the charges if migrants agree to return to Mexico. The number of transgender services performed at Planned Parenthood clinics exploded over the past few years as the transgender medical industry became increasingly lucrative, according to data published by the organization’s regional branches. Planned Parenthood first began providing hormone treatments for transgender patients in 2005, and since then 41 out of 49 regional branches have provided transgender services as of 2022. However, in just the last three years, Planned Parenthood has become dramatically more involved in the gender hormone industry. Between 2020 and 2022, the number of transgender services performed and/or visits related to transgender treatments at Planned Parenthood clinics increased by roughly 125%, according to a Daily Caller News Foundation review of available data. Regional branches that made their data available collectively saw 17,036 visits in 2020 compared to 38,337 in 2022, a staggering increase in such a short period of time.

It is supposed to be used on babies with a genuine defect that prevents them from feeding properly but medical professionals have become increasingly liberal with prescribing it, despite around 60 percent of infants getting better without surgery. The rate of surgeries performed ballooned by 800 percent between 1997 and 2012 fromaround 1,280 procedures to more than 12,000, with doctors and breastfeeding consultants are raking in millions of dollars annually.

In some cases, the procedure causes severe lasting pain in infants as well as difficulty eating, resulting in malnourishment that can require them to be hooked up to feeding tubes.

At the time, the pope suggested he was open to blessing same-sex unions but that the Catholic Church should avoid any type of ritual that would suggest same-sex unions are recognized like traditional marriages. The more in-depth answer published Monday reaffirms marriage between a man and a woman, but states the Catholic Church “must shy away from resting its pastoral praxis on the fixed nature of certain doctrinal or disciplinary schemes.”

I’ll grant that he may be the ruler of the Conciliar church, but not that he’s a Christian, so Pachamama to anyone who takes offense. I understand that many members of the Conciliar church—relying on “fine legal quibbles” drawn from Canon Law or dodgy interpretations of Scripture—claim to regard Bergoglio as not only “Catholic” but even as the supremo of what they choose to call the Catholic Church. But he’s not a Christian or a Catholic and, therefore, cannot possibly be the head of Christ’s church on earth. Canon Law is fundamentally subordinate to theology—not the other way round. Canon Law is not an end in itself. It is simply intended to assist in the consistent implementation of structures and procedures that lead the faithful on the path of salvation. The integrity of the faith comes first. I fully understand that my position logically requires a thoroughgoing re-understanding of what many thought were settled theological points. So be it. Nobody, least of all Jesus, ever said life is easy.

The 36th is one of three IDF regular divisions engaged in Gaza. Last week, I accompanied the division into Shejaiya, observing its howitzers, tanks and infantrymen in action.

The most important of these effects can be summarized in the following changes: […] While 95% think Israel has committed war crimes during the current war, only 10% think Hamas also committed such crimes; 4% think Israel has not committed such crimes and 89% think Hamas did not commit war crimes during the current war. 85% say they did not see videos, shown by international news outlets, showing acts committed by Hamas against Israeli civilians, such as the killing of women and children in their homes; only 14% (7% in the West Bank and 25% in the Gaza Strip) saw these videos. When asked if Hamas did commit these atrocities, the overwhelming majority said no, it did not and only 7% (1% in the West Bank and 16% in the Gaza Strip) said it did.

James: New Zealand gov’t to remove LGBT indoctrination from schools in declared ‘war on woke’

New Zealand’s new government, a coalition between the centre-right National party, the libertarian ACT party, and the populist NZ First party, has signaled that it will remove the gender, sexuality, and relationship-based education guidelines in schools. It is part of what the new government is describing as its “war on woke.” The replacement guidelines are yet to be outlined but, according to NZ First leader Winston Peters, the intention is to make them more transparent.
