One set of laws for Donald Trump and his supporters, and another set for the harassers. Throughout history, the tyrannical abuse of governmental power has been a fearsome thing to behold. Wise men instituted laws in an effort to tame that abuse. The Constitution of the United States, for example, was framed in large part as a prophylactic against the coercive power of the state. The Framers witnessed the “long train of abuses and usurpations” perpetrated by the British crown and resolved to respond. The Constitution dealt with many other things, to be sure, but concern about tyrannical abuse of power by the government and its minions is patent from the opening paragraphs of the Declaration of Independence straight through the Constitution and its Amendments. The idea was that we Americans would live in a polity governed by “laws, not men.” That is to say, laws would be legitimately formulated, clearly defined, and administered impartially, so far as was humanly possible. How are we doing on that score? Not so well. The terms “administrative state” and “deep state” entered parlance only about seven years ago. The realities those phrases name long predate their currency, but Donald Trump was the lens through which worry about those legitimacy-devouring, essentially tyrannical phenomena crystallized. During the 2016 campaign, Trump’s chief strategist Steven Bannon raised eyebrows when he said that “deconstructing the administrative state” was a high priority. In the event, Trump’s success on that task was only a patchwork affair, but he did make an effort.

Axios notes the group is linked to “Democratic Party heavyweights,” including fundraiser David Brock and Democratic consultant Melissa Moss.

The State Bar of Arizona announced that it found probable cause to pursue disciplinary charges against three attorneys representing Kari Lake in her election-related cases. The attorneys are Bryan Blehm, Kurt Olsen, and Andrew Parker. The charges relate to election lawsuits the three filed for Lake. The Arizona Bar has increasingly come under criticism for targeting conservative attorneys. Blehm, who is accused by the Arizona Bar of criticizing the Arizona Supreme Court for setting up a disinformation task force, told The Arizona Sun Times, “If the ethical rules can be interpreted such that lawyers must remain silent in the face of unconstitutional conduct by the very courts they serve then I question the validity of those ethical rules and/or the veracity of those interpreting them. We are duty bound as attorneys to defend the Constitution of the United States of America and that is the proper function of the courts. When the courts themselves violate the Constitution somebody must say something because there is nowhere left for the people to turn. When our courts fail us, we are no longer a constitutional republic.”

State Rep. Alex Kolodin Sentenced to 18 Months Probation by Arizona Bar for Filing 2020 Election Lawsuits.The State Bar of Arizona has been aggressively pursuing disciplinary charges against attorneys who challenged alleged election irregularities and illegalities in 2020 and 2022. Proceedings against State Representative Alex Kolodin (R-Scottsdale) recently concluded with Kolodin accepting an agreement that would allow him to keep his law license, instead serving probation for 18 months. The Arizona Bar charged Kolodin (pictured above) with several rules often used to disbar conservative attorneys. As part of the agreement, Kolodin admitted his actions violated Rule 42, ERs 3.1 and 8.4(d) of the Arizona Bar’s Rules of Professional Conduct. ER 3.1 prohibits attorneys from bringing “frivolous” lawsuits, and 8.4(d) prohibits attorneys from “engag[ing] in conduct that is prejudicial to the administration of justice.” Kolodin was not required to admit any specifics of wrongdoing, and the agreement did not explain how he violated the two ethical rules, which is unusual in an Agreement for Consent by Discipline. […] State bar proceedings are ongoing against multiple election attorneys around the country, many arising out of bar complaints filed by The 65 Project. The State Bar of California went after Trump’s former attorney, John Eastman, seeking to disbar him for his work representing Trump in the 2020 election challenges. He is awaiting the California disciplinary judge’s decision, who is expected to disbar him. The District of Columbia Bar is seeking to disbar Trump’s DOJ appointee Jeffrey Clark for his role in the 2020 election challenges, drafting a memo to Georgia election officials advising them of their options, which was never sent.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the primary federal agency responsible for managing infectious disease outbreaks, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the federal authority over food, drugs, and medical device safety and efficacy, both failed completely during the 2020–2023 COVID-19 (COronaVIrus Disease of 2019) crisis. The COVID-19 response required an immediate, aggressive, national antiviral drug program. Observational and international data showed the drug hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) to be an effective, safe treatment for early phase COVID-19 (up to seven days after symptom onset). With a short five-day quarantine at home, HCQ could control viral spread and minimize hospitalizations, while keeping the economy running.1 HCQ is one of the safest FDA-approved drugs known. It can be given to pregnant women and lactating mothers. Triggered in the Situation Room by the President’s trade adviser Peter Navarro, the U.S. quickly stockpiled 22 million HCQ doses. By March 2020, the drug was being rushed out to pharmacies for off-label antiviral prescription for early suspected COVID-19 infections. The U.S. lacked adequate testing, but the drug is safe enough to use based on a clinician’s judgment. More than 50 countries would successfully do the same. […] Instead, a small number of senior federal bureaucrats promoted an experimental antiviral drug called remdesivir. This cost $90 per treatment to manufacture and package, and was sold to the U.S. government for $2,500 per treatment. Additionally, they pushed for a multi-billion dollar mass-immunization program using highly experimental single-antigen mRNA “pseudo-vaccines” that were still under development. […] By September 2023, the accumulated evidence from 394 controlled studies conducted by 8,304 scientists from 58 countries involving 520,058 patients demonstrates the overwhelming safety and positive effects of HCQ on COVID-19 when administered early. Notably, 15 completed, true early treatment clinical trials show a massive 72% [C.I. 57%-81%] reduction in virus mortality without any adverse cardiac effects.

The real cause of these casualties, besides Hamas, is therefore actually the Biden administration, the United Nations and the international community: they incentivize Hamas to place their own people in harm’s way to be killed — the more the better — so that everyone can then accuse Israel. The act of blaming Israel for the casualties that were orchestrated by Hamas is, in fact, what is causing them. Hamas can only be looking around and saying to themselves, “Hey, it’s working! So let’s keep on doing it!”

Amanda Blanc, CEO of Aviva insurance company, told members of Parliament this week at a “Sexism in the City” inquiry that there would be “no non-diverse hires” in senior positions at her company until she’d had a chance to vet them first: Speaking to a parliamentary committee, she said that “there is no non-diverse hire at Aviva without it being signed off by me and the chief people officer”. “Not because I don’t trust my team but [because] I want to make sure that the process followed for that recruitment has been diverse, has been properly done and is not just a phone call to a mate saying, ‘would you like a job, pop up and we’ll fix it up for you’,” she said at the Sexism in the City inquiry yesterday. Her comments only apply to senior staff at Aviva, which has a workforce of 22,000.
