The faith-based indie outfit behind summer blockbuster Sound of Freedom is out with documentary After Death, which opens in over 2,600 theaters this weekend, an extremely wide release for a doc that doesn’t also happen to be a concert film. The exploration of near-death experiences by survivors, scientists, medical professionals and authors that addresses the question of what happens when we die has pre-sold over 211,000 tickets. That’s according to the latest check of a constantly updating ticket counter on Angel’s website that estimates pre-orders based on integrations with ticketing platforms and exhibitors.

The pollster who worked on the new study, George Barna, attributes the unusually high number he found to social and news media coverage that makes it “safe and cool” for young Americans to identify as LGBTQ—whether or not it represents their actual sexual orientation. “It’s a subset of a larger issue, that this is a generation where three out of four are searching for meaning.

This is a group that doesn’t have a reason to get out of bed in the morning,” Barna says. “Therefore, the LGBTQ identity gives them comfort. […] The poll didn’t ask directly whether the respondent was gay or straight, asking instead to choose an answer to the question: “Thinking about your commitments, would you describe yourself as ….”Six responses were allowed, with the one garnering the most “yes” answers (75 percent) among Millennials being: “Searching for purpose in your life,” followed by 74 percent who answered: “Believe all religious faiths are of equal value.” […] “Why is it when previous generations were able to figure out why life was worth living, this one isn’t figuring it out?” he asks. “It has to do with the spiritual changes in America. Attorney William Mohrman, doing an interview with The Daily Wire, said his client was denied the right to a fair trial, and emphasized how the jury was biased from the outset, especially one specific juror. Germany’s APOLLO NEWS here reports that soccer club VfL Osnabrück is now “penalizing its employees with climate fines.” “Based on an individual CO₂ footprint calculated by the club, deductions are made from their salaries as a penalty for climate-unfriendly behavior,” reports the German site. As it’s probably a dream of many people to be employed by a professional sports team, the club will probably get away with it. Unhappy employees can be easily replaced.

It appears that Canada will soon be updating — and broadening — its medical assistance in dying (MAID) law. The law, first put into effect in 2016, “allows” people to be euthanized if they have a “grievous and irremediable medical condition,” such as a serious illness or disability, that has put them in an advanced state of irreversible decline. There has been much talk in recent years in The Great White North of making those with mental illness “eligible” for MAID. But, come March, the law will apparently be expanded to include not just the simply mentally ill, but those who are addicted to drugs. That’s right: according to the aptly named VICE, substance abusers will soon have access to medically assisted dying in Trudeau’s utopia! In the U.S., we only give them free crack pipes and syringes.
