The latest edition of the State of the Climate Report, published this week in the journal BioScience, begins rather ominously: “Life on planet Earth is under siege. We are now in an uncharted territory.” These sentences are meant to instill abject fear and evoke a sense of doom in the general public. However, they are patently absurd and ought to be disregarded outright. Like almost every climate change report I’ve come across, the 2023 State of the Climate Report is full of red herrings and bombastic assertions that are intended to alarm the public into believing that climate change is an existential threat that must be stopped at all costs, regardless of the collateral damage and unintended consequences that their so-called solutions would inevitably bring to bear. But what I find most alarming about this particular report, which 15,000 scientists signed, is the anti-human and anti-progress message that lies at the heart of it.

The data is clear and consistent. I challenge any qualified scientist to challenge this data in an open public debate. The irresponsible attacks by an LA Times journalist on MSU Professor Mark Skidmore’s paper motivated me to run my own survey of my readers to see what the actual harm numbers really are.
Over 10,000 readers responded. The survey clearly showed that the COVID vaccines have killed 3.5 times as many people as COVID. This is a disaster. I’ve had expert statisticians and epidemiologists review the survey, the methodology, and the results. None could find any errors. I’m willing to put a million dollars on the table that this is right and that the vaccines have killed more people than COVID. Any takers? If not, why not? When I called Professor Norman Fenton and informed him of the 3.5X figure he calmly replied “I’m not surprised.” The results of this survey are entirely consistent with the surveys by others as well as individual anecdotes that would have been very unlikely for me to have located if the vaccine didn’t kill at least 3.5X more people than the virus.

I know these things because I’ve known Mike Johnson for more than a decade. I’ve known him since before he ever got into politics; I’ve known him as one of the most articulate, principled conservatives Louisiana’s state Legislature has ever seen (which wasn’t all that long); and I’ve known him as a congressman. […] Mike Johnson knows very well what time it is in America. As one specific example — the one that will be most pressing as he takes the gavel — Johnson shows evidence of understanding why Kevin McCarthy ultimately failed as his predecessor. For all of the caterwauling about Matt Gaetz’s personal aims, which will look less and less catastrophic as Johnson’s hold on the speakership solidifies (you’re going to notice a major difference in Republican House leadership now that a stable, principled, and well-grounded Speaker is in place), the most important reason why McCarthy fell was his inability to move the 12 appropriations bills funding the government in a timely manner. Spyer: Tehran Makes Its Moves on the Border of Israel Amid Gaza Standoff
Israeli forces are completing the final stages of preparation before the start of a ground offensive into Gaza. The goal of this offensive, according to statements by senior Israeli officials, will be to put an end to 16 years of Hamas rule over this area. But even as the world’s attention remains focused on the narrow and dusty strip to Israel’s southwest, a far larger and potentially more consequential mobilisation is taking place across the Middle East. From Lebanon to Yemen, via Syria and Iraq, the Iran-led regional axis of which Hamas is only a minor element is moving into position. Some of its component militias have entered the fray already, carrying out limited attacks against Israeli and US forces. Others have arrived at their jump-off points, awaiting the order to intervene. It’s important to understand the nature of the alliance in question. It is the fruit of the methodology and the investments of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps during the past four decades in the Middle East. In that time, patiently, and with tactics adjusted to fit local conditions, Tehran has built an army of a type never before seen in the Middle East and that is now preparing for action. This army consists of a host of nominally independent militias, that in reality are controlled by a central guiding hand. It is a unique melding of regular and irregular capacities, and of the political with the military. Most crucially, the IRGC method weds the Islamist fervour from below that remains the dominant force across the Arab world at street level, with the capacities, armaments and organisation that can be supplied only by a powerful state.

- Qatar would like the world to believe that it is acting as an honest broker with its efforts to secure the release of the Gaza captives. But the reality is that it deserves to be condemned by the West as a state that sponsors global terrorism, so long as it maintains its indefensible support for Hamas.

Haniyeh, who has been designated a terrorist by the US since 2018, has been resident in Qatar since the Gulf State offered him political asylum in the emirate several years ago.

Jemma Decristo is an assistant professor at UC Davis, who has called for violence against “Zionist” journalists and their children — it appears she means not just Israeli citizens, but Jews everywhere who support Israel as well. More on her grotesque threats can be found here: “US Professor Remains on University Staff After Tweet Threatening Jewish Journalists, Their Children,” by Dion J. Pierre, Algemeiner, October 20, 2023: . . . […] Her threat is unmistakable, and unnerving. It is this: “We who support the Palestinians know where the Zionist journalists live, we know where their kids go to school. They can’t hide from us, and should be very very worried.” And then her message of violence ends with images of a knife, an axe, and drops of blood. […] Decristo does not have tenure. She could be terminated for cause without much ado. What cause? Making antisemitic death threats in the wake of the mass-murder of Jews in Israel should be more than enough to qualify as “faculty misconduct.” After all, if Decristo had made death threats, instead, to “black journalists” or to “Muslim journalists” or to “LGBTQ journalists,” does anyone think she would still be on campus, still have her job?

Fogarty: Notre Dame Admin Defends University-Sponsored Drag Show Under The Guise Of ‘Academic Freedom’
The Film, Television, and Theater (FTT) Department at the University of Notre Dame plans to host a drag show on Nov. 3. This event comes after a series of controversies in recent years as Notre Dame has grappled with its Catholic identity and the bounds of “academic freedom.” Founded by a French missionary priest in 1842, the University of Notre Dame prides itself on roots in the Catholic intellectual tradition and calls its students to “be powerful forces for good in the world.” The school’s mission statement advocates for a university “dedicated to the pursuit and sharing of truth for its own sake.” On Sept. 13, the school’s independent Catholic student newspaper, The Irish Rover, reported that the drag show was to take place following the conclusion of a one-credit class titled, “What a Drag: Drag on Screen — Variations and Meanings.” […] The email template asks that “The University’s invitation … be rescinded [and that] the University offer an apology, especially to her women, for ever considering such a degrading portrayal of femininity, and direct its funds to events that support authentic femininity and the dignity of the human person.” Those who have emailed are receiving an automated response from the office of the president, stating that the school is committed to its mission as a Catholic university but defends the event on the grounds of “academic freedom” and “freedom of expression.”

It was, rather, one of those realizations that so many generations of Jews before me have experienced. A realization that they, like me, surely tried to push out of their minds until the reality became unmistakeable. This war is not simply between Hamas terrorists and Israelis. It is a war against the Jews.

Meanwhile inside the meeting quickly grew heated with some residents opposing the city’s plan to turn a site in the Southwest Side neighborhood into a tent shelter for asylum seekers. Cheers and boos erupted from the crowd, while outside, residents who had not been allowed in pounded on the doors.
