Chastain: Trump Georgia Case: Lawyer Jenna Ellis Takes a Plea Deal

In exchange for her cooperation, Ellis pleaded guilty to one count of aiding and abetting false statements and writings. The count stems from her testimony before a Georgia Senate subcommittee on Dec. 3, 2020. Along with co-defendants Rudy Giuliani and Ray Smith, Ellis “knowingly, willingly, and unlawfully” made false statements about election fraud in Georgia, according to her new charging document. Under the terms of the agreement, Ellis must serve five years probation, 100 hours of community service and pay $5,000 in restitution to the Georgia Secretary of State’s office. She agreed to testify truthfully when called, provide documents and other evidence, refrain from posting about the case on social media and to pen an apology letter to Georgia voters.

On September 16, with great fanfare, California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced his office had filed a lawsuit against five major oil companies. Accusing them of knowingly misleading the public regarding the alleged harm that fossil fuels would inflict on the climate, Bonta’s office seeks billions in compensatory damages. But the climate change theory that Bonta’s case relies on must ultimately be validated by observational data. And the data does not support the theory. Suing oil companies is becoming big business. Along with California, state and local government climate change lawsuits against the fossil fuel industry have been filed in Oregon, California, Colorado, Minnesota, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, South Carolina, and Hawaii. Alleging these companies have directly caused global warming and extreme weather, they seek damages for consumer fraud, public nuisance, negligence, racketeering, erosion, flooding and fires. […] It’s no certainty the oil industry will aggressively fight these lawsuits. If a broad settlement can be reached, that is probably their preference. […] That’s also a shame. By sidestepping the question of whether CO2 is indeed a dangerous pollutant, and instead leaving that decision up to a politicized EPA, the U.S. Supreme Court in the Massachusetts v. EPA case issued a deeply flawed ruling. Without CO2, life on earth as we know it would not exist. CO2 is plant food, and without it, plants die. There is evidence that more atmospheric CO2 would have a primarily beneficial impact on planetary ecosystem health. If oil and gas companies defended themselves on this basis, they might take a case all the way to the Supreme Court and force a reversal of Massachusetts v. EPA.

Killough: Experts say 50 million miles of new power lines needed for green energy, and that may be impossible

It’s one thing to try and replace fossil fuels with wind and solar power, but experts are saying the generation of power is only half the battle, and that the problems in getting that power to Americans may be insurmountable. A new report from the International Energy Agency (IEA) concludes that the size of the global electricity grid will need to double by 2040, in order to reach global emission reductions targets in line with the Paris Agreement. That means, the IEA says, the world will need to refurbish or add 50 million miles of new transmission lines within 17 years — the equivalent of circling the equator more than 2,000 times.

The Boulder Valley School District says it wants to replace its diesel school buses with more environmentally friendly green buses. […] The district is set to approve the purchase of five new diesel passenger school buses for $714,876. The district is expected to approve the new school buses at its Oct. 24 meeting. The district said the new diesel buses are needed because, “diesel school buses are essential for mountain routes due to their robust performance in challenging terrains. These routes often have steep inclines, variable weather conditions, and remote locations, making diesel buses a practical choice.” “Propane and electric buses have limitations on mountain routes,” the district stated.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer has dropped out of the race to become the Speaker of the House, doing so within hours of the Republican conference backing him for the post. Emmer triumphed over a litany of other candidates in a string of Republican conference votes. After becoming the speaker designee, however, former President Donald Trump came out against his leadership, telling Republicans that to give him the position would be a “tragic mistake.”

The difference between the Cold War and today is that the Soviets and the Chinese could not, back then, contemplate a United States that would open its borders to millions of people from all over the planet, regardless of their country of origin or political views. There was always immigration of course, including illegal immigration. But the seriousness of the Cold War required that new citizens were mostly of a certain kind, even if most came for economic reasons. The opening of the U.S. border today reveals an America engaged in a kind of national suicide. Given such weakness, we should not then be surprised that America’s major cities and her capitol have been filled with protesters who march in solidarity with Hamas and their deadly attack on Israel. It makes no difference that these protests purport to be in support of the Palestinian cause. Their practical effect is the support of terrorism and murder. Some of the protestors are themselves Palestinians who have imported their grievances to the United States. Others are Communists, Marxists, Leninists, Muslims, and Muslim immigrants who are emboldened to defend openly the use of terrorism as a legitimate political act. It should be perfectly clear they have rejected the principles of the United States and embraced the nihilistic death cult that is global Islamic terrorism.

These past few weeks, we’ve witnessed a new and terrifying phenomenon: The banlieue-ization of American cities and college campuses. Just like the French suburbs that catch fire, quite literally, every time their disgruntled residents decide that they’re not fond of a particular policy or bit of breaking news, we now have bonfires in Bay Ridge and pinheads at Penn marching around and cheering on Jewish genocide. . . . new records released to the Center for Immigration Studies last week as part of a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit reveal that the Biden administration has been authorizing thousands of SIAs for escorted entries through land ports along the border since at least May 2021, using “CBP One” online interfaces such as a mobile phone app. Using this program, the administration has authorized the paroles into the country of some 7,332 SIAs from 24 of the roughly 35-40 U.S.-designated countries, including smatterings from Iran, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan, but the largest numbers coming from Muslim-majority former Soviet republics in Central Asia such as the Kyrgyz Republic, also known as Kyrgyzstan, (3,852) and Uzbekistan (1,843). These government-sanctioned SIA entries are very different from the surprise illegal border crossings of SIAs with which homeland security officials traditionally have had to contend in that these ones are pre-approved before their escorted port of entry crossings, their names and biometrics ostensibly having been run through criminal database checks (though such checks have been panned as grossly inadequate). At issue with government-authorized entries of SIAs over the land ports is whether the Biden administration’s DHS is conducting effective enhanced security screening beyond the standard criminal database checks used for the more than 249,000 non-SIA immigrants the CIS FOIA records show it has paroled in since May 2021 through eight land ports.

The Center Square Staff: Texas sues Biden administration over federal efforts to ‘destroy’ border fencing

The state of Texas and a free market policy group sued the Biden administration Tuesday in response to Border Patrol agents being directed to cut concertina wire fencing erected by state officers in Eagle Pass, Texas, to help secure the southern border. The wire fencing was put up as part of Gov. Greg Abbott’s border security mission, Operation Lone Star. The lawsuit was filed by the office of the Attorney General and the Texas Public Policy Foundation in U.S. District Court, Western District of Texas Del Rio Division. It names the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Acting CBP Commissioner Troy Miller, Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens, and Del Rio Sector Chief Juan Bernal as defendants.

O’Neil: Father Whose Son Had Transgender Surgery Despite Court Order Issues Dire Warning About Parental Rights

A California father has urged a court to find his ex-wife, her lawyer, his son’s lawyer, and a hospital in contempt of court after they went around a court order stipulating that his son would not receive transgender-related surgery unless the father approved it. “This is not an accident,” Ted Hudacko, the father in question, told The Daily Signal in a phone interview last week. “This was intentionally done.” He also warned that two of the figures in his story—the judge who revoked his visitation rights and the lawyer who represents the University of California, San Francisco (where the surgery took place), are pro-transgender activists who train custody attorneys to undermine the parental rights of “non-affirming” parents (parents who refuse to affirm their child’s decision to identify as another gender).

Leading a group of 23 attorneys general, Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares filed an amicus brief on Wednesday on behalf of the plaintiffs in Mahmoud v. McKnight, a lawsuit involving Maryland parents and the Montgomery County School Board. . . .the Montgomery County School Board announced in March 2023 that parents would not be allowed to recuse their children from classes where “LGBTQ+ inclusive” books would be shared with students, nor would they be notified of when this would occur. The school board last year invested in a series of 22 LGBTQ+ inclusive books to be used in the education of pre-kindergarten and elementary school students. These books “portray elementary school age children falling in love with other children, regardless of sexual preferences,” according to the brief. They also include terms like “intersex flag,” “[drag] king,” “platform shoes,” “lip ring” and “leather” among word lists children can match to images, according to religious liberties law firm Becket.

The footage from the interrogation was released on Monday and showed selected clips from six separate interrogations. Each terrorist had a slightly different experience, but Israeli intelligence forces noted a number of common themes. All the Hamas agents were given explicit instructions to kill and kidnap civilians including the elderly along with women and children. While they did this, their commanders stayed behind in Gaza. One of the terrorists told Israeli forces that “whoever brings a hostage back [to Gaza] gets $10,000 and an apartment.”

We received 40 pages of records from the Massachusetts State Police that indicate the presence of Barack Obama for a witness interview in the death investigation of the Obamas’ personal chef Tafari Campbell. The records, which are heavily redacted, indicate Barack Obama arrived at the emergency response scene via motorcade. A short time later, a cold, wet woman, who was a witness, arrived. The next morning, the eyewitness was interviewed in the Obama residence, again with Barack Obama present. It is concerning that we had to push for several months to find out that Barack Obama was personally involved in the death investigation of his personal chef Tafari Campbell.

This month Minnesota became the latest state to allow illegal immigrants to get a driver’s license as part of a burgeoning national trend to reward undocumented residents with government benefits. In all, 19 states and the District of Columbia have passed bills that permit foreigners living in the U.S. illegally to obtain driver’s licenses. Earlier this year laws went into effect in Massachusetts and Rhode Island and a few weeks ago Minnesota’s measure, known as Driver’s Licenses for All, went into effect. Officials estimate that about 80,000 illegal immigrants who were previously disqualified from obtaining the cards in the North Star state will now be allowed to get them. California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington are the other states that let illegal aliens get driver’s licenses. […] Under the new law Minnesota’s Department of Vehicle Services (DVS) is prohibited from asking driver’s license applicants about immigration status or from placing any special identifier on the card indicating immigration status. The state agency is also banned from providing information to federal authorities for the purpose of civil immigration enforcement.
