Daily News Roundup

Sam J on Twitchy: Marxism cannot thrive in a world where people are allowed to speak freely. Soros knows this. Democrats know this.

Brad A. Girton contributor to American Thinker: As with any good totalitarian leftist regime, gun confiscation is at the top of the leftist wish list. It’s much easier to institute control and compliance over an unarmed citizenry than it is an armed one. They may deny it, but deep down, this is what they want. All you have to do is watch and listen to them. You hear them use code words like “military-grade weapons” and “red flag laws.” Even our leftist administrative state is getting in on the action, as the ATF is now targeting gun dealers by denying more and more of their business licenses.

Scott Sturman contributor to Brownstone Institute: Totalitarians, who exploit and manipulate the physical and social sciences to restrict personal freedom and human rights, promote subjective science which is convenient to their needs and unbalanced. Protective negative feedback loops are ubiquitous in nature and force systems towards stability and equilibrium but are ignored or marginalized in order to engender a sense of futility and fear in the general population. The ensuing desperation leads to political choices based on emotional and imperfect information and results in unanticipated excesses, persecution, and tyranny.

Charlotte Hazard reporter for Just the News: Trump campaign posts mugshot to his Twitter account, lighting up social media. Trump’s post also read “ELECTION INTERFERENCE” and “NEVER SURRENDER”.

Gabe Guidarini contributor to Human Events: Trump’s enemies have every reason to gloat. They know they don’t need to win elections to vanquish their enemies and win real victories. Republicans, meanwhile, find most of their wins these days in the increasingly embattled Supreme Court. Outside of certain states, such as Texas and Florida, real political victories are few and far between. The only way for Republicans and conservatives to counter left-wing political action is to adopt the left-wing understanding of power, and act.

Becky Noble contributor to RedState: Wednesday’s first GOP Presidential Primary debate was full of questions about the economy, war in Ukraine, climate change, and even UFOs. But conspicuously left out of the fray was one thing, and it is something that, besides the economy, is concerning to many Americans. Fox News Channel debate moderators Martha McCallum and Bret Baier did not ask the candidates one question about election integrity. And while the media tries to downplay that fact, a new poll reveals that fair and honest elections are front and center on the minds of all Americans.

Alex Griffing for Mediate: Fox News’s first Republican debate of the 2024 presidential election exceeded expectations and brought in 12.8 million total viewers, according to data released by Nielsen ratings. Fox broke a record in 2015 with its first debate that cycle, raking in 24 million total average viewers — the most watched primary debate up until that point in the history of television.

Nicholas Ballasy reporter for Just the News: Former President Trump’s debate night interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson is at 230 million views and counting on the social media platform X on Wednesday evening.

TIPP Insights Editorial Board: The modern GOP is firmly uniparty and indistinguishable from the Washington Democrats and the Beltway types. Without a MAGA agenda, a new GOP administration would essentially look like the Biden administration, except for a few changes to appeal to the religious right.

Teresa R. Manning contributor to American Greatness: Instead of cultivating virtue in citizens, and maturity and sacrifice in spouses, elites today promote vice, and nowhere more than in sexual matters where individuals are told to put their wants first.  Any kids or others hurt by sexual self-indulgence should just get over it. Gluttony and lust are similar vices in that both involve physical self-indulgence. Ancient Romans personified gluttony. They would gorge themselves on food and then actually vomit in a “vomitorium” so they could eat more! But the ancient world, especially the Greeks, also understood the real nature of vice: It saw vice as slavery.

Gillespie: Democrats celebrate, Biden fundraises off Trump arrest

The celebrations from Democrats, including President Biden, have begun rolling in following former President Donald Trump’s booking in the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta on Thursday. Some sought to remind others of the phrase often repeated by members of their party that “no one is above the law,” while Biden used the opportunity to fundraise for his 2024 re-election campaign.

Saavedra: Trump Mug Shot Released From Fulton County

Former President Donald Trump had his mug shot released on Thursday night by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office. Trump was arrested and booked as inmate No. P01135809 at the Fulton County jail. He self-reported his height and weight as being 6 foot 3 inches and 215 pounds. Trump agreed earlier this week to a $200,000 bond and other release conditions with the Fulton County District Attorney’s office. Nineteen individuals were charged in the 41-count indictment, including Trump, Rudy Giuliani, John Eastman, Mark Meadows, Ken Chesebro, Jeffrey Clark, Jenna Ellis, Ray Stallings Smith III, Robert Cheeley, Mike Roman, David Shafer, Shawn Micah Tresher Still, Stephen Lee, Harrison Floyd, Trevian Kutti, Sidney Powell, Cathleen Latham, Scott Hall, and Misty Hampton. Trump was charged with 13 counts, including: . . .

Rankin & Hallerman: Fulton defendant demands speedy trial in Trump election interference case

Lawyers for Kenneth Chesebro on Wednesday filed a motion demanding a speedy trial in the sweeping election interference racketeering prosecution of former President Donald Trump and his allies. The aggressive filing from Chesebro — the legal equivalent of throwing a bomb into the case — could create a massive headache for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and attorneys for the other 18 defendants in the case. It could force Willis to try Chesebro by the end of December and scuttle her plans to prosecute all 19 defendants together. “State law, if requested by a defendant, sets a firm time limit in which to have a fair trial,” said attorney Scott Grubman, who is defending Chesebro with attorney Manny Arora. “Mr. Chesebro has given his official notice that he intends to avail himself of that right. Mr. Chesebro maintains his innocence and remains confident as the legal process continues.” Chesebro, an attorney, worked with the leadership of the Georgia GOP to coordinate a slate of “alternate” Republican electors in December 2020. He is charged with racketeering  . . .

Knutsson: Are AI deepfakes the end of acting as we know it?

Hollywood and AI are like that couple you see everywhere: inseparable, intriguing and constantly making headlines. While studios are singing praises about AI’s endless capabilities, traditional performers are biting their nails, wondering where they fit in this evolving tapestry. […] While AI’s intervention in ads is an innovative marvel, it raises questions about authenticity and ethics. When the boundary between the real and virtual fades, trust is on the line.

Picket: House committee investigating Fulton County DA Fani Willis for possible coordination with feds

House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan announced the committee launched an inquiry into whether Fulton County Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis coordinated with federal officials, including Special Counsel Jack Smith, with her indictment of former President Donald Trump. Mr. Jordan, Ohio Republican, in a letter sent Thursday to Ms. Willis, demanded information and communications with the Department of Justice and Executive Branch officials and information on her office’s federal funding. Republicans on the committee suspect that Ms. Willis‘s indictment and prosecution of Mr. Trump; former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, and John Eastman — a former Justice Department official, among others, raise substantial federal interests. They are concerned that her actions may be politically motivated. Both the state and federal prosecutions allege that Mr. Trump and allies violated election laws to overturn the 2020 presidential election.

Guidarini: The GOP must adopt the tactics of the opposition to secure power

The American left and the Democratic Party are riding high with the fourth and latest indictment of Donald Trump. Federal and state authorities are bombarding the 45th president with criminal charges, with the latest alleging Trump and more than a dozen co-conspirators engaged in election fraud and racketeering in Georgia in an effort to “overturn” the 2020 election. […] For decades, the Republican doctrine has been characterized by a reliance on “limited government” as their governing principle. It’s an honorable and noble position to take and would be practical under different circumstances. Unfortunately, the left doesn’t abide by the same “limited government” principles as their right-wing counterparts. They use power regularly and often to achieve their ends, and they’re smart to do so. Their strategy of using political power with the utmost ruthlessness has resulted in them acquiring more political and cultural power than ever before. They took their time. They’ve been doing this sort of thing since before I was born. […] While the left has marched on American institutions, Republicans have chained themselves to “limited-government” principles, preventing them from achieving anything of value and making it impossible to put up a challenge to left-wing governance. If they want to put up a real challenge, Republicans need to start by using the bureaucracy to its fullest extent. They need to insert staffers and implement their agenda by practically any means necessary.

Wetmore & McMyrray: HERE’S THE PROOF: The FBI and Attorney General Nessel Hid These from the People of Michigan – Piles of Fraudulent-Manufactured Ballot Registrations from the 2020 Election

Photos from a confidential source close to the Muskegon investigation reveal what far-left Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel now admits is a stack of faked and fraudulent voter application forms with a return address at a Staybridge hotel, the base of operations for GBI Strategies in 2020 that sent out at least ten thousand fake voter registration applications for the election. These photos and the source confirm that Muskegon Clerk Ann Meisch received these voter applications and received them in multiple batches, sometimes through the mail and sometimes in person.  This is possibly why Muskegon, far-left AG Nessel, and the FBI don’t want to give the Gateway Pundit access to the files: because the voter fraud is so obvious that all the voter signatures are in the same handwriting and just printed signatures, not real signings. […] Why is no one being prosecuted for these crimes after three years? The Muskegon Police told the Gateway Pundit that they can’t get the FBI to return their phone calls about this case. Yet the Muskegon GOP has produced a report of serious ‘irregularities‘ in the Muskegon County voter file from 2020 that shows 32,000 more voters on the voter file than normal.

Williams: China’s Influence Activity in the US Is Unprecedented

  • [President Joe] Biden’s closing the China Initiative played, of course, right into the Chinese Communist Party’s hands.
  • While the Biden administration worries about political correctness, the Chinese Communist Party is successfully using every means at its disposal to weaken the US in all fields.
  • “[A] significant portion of America’s intellectual and political elites share the responsibility for perpetrating key CCP propaganda agendas, including misleading the American public to minimize the degree to which the PRC is still a country ruled by a Marxist-Leninist communist party. The manipulation of language is a prime example of this endeavor.” — Miles Maochun Yu, Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institution, hoover.org, May 5, 2021
  • The FBI has named China as “a grave threat to the economic well-being and democratic values of the United States” and said that confronting this threat is “FBI’s top counterintelligence priority.” However, instead of focusing all available resources on countering this “grave threat” from the CCP on all fronts, the Biden administration has been busy institutionalizing woke ideology in the federal bureaucracy — including in the military….

Fleitz: Debate Fireworks Reflect Growing Divide over Biden’s Failed Ukraine Policy

ith the apparent failure of Ukraine’s spring/summer offensive and the Biden Administration’s refusal to offer a peace plan, President Biden’s latest request for $24 billion in emergency aid for Ukraine landed with a thud on Capitol Hill. If approved, total U.S. aid to Ukraine since the war began in 2022 would reach $135 billion. Sharp divisions over the Ukraine War at this week’s Republican primary debate reflect similar differences in Congress, with the two leading candidates critical of continuing U.S. military support. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis opposed more funding unless European states stepped up to “pull their weight.” Businessman Vivek Ramaswamy said he would immediately cut off U.S. military aid. Former President Trump has taken a slightly different approach, calling on Congress to withhold military support for Ukraine until the Biden administration cooperates with congressional investigations into his son Hunter’s business dealings. The former President also has said that if elected, he would negotiate a quick end to the war. Several debaters strongly disagreed . . .  […] At this week’s BRICS summit in South Africa, China attempted to build on the Saudi summit when it proposed a new joint China-South Africa peace plan that would make these two nations negotiators to end the Ukraine War.

Solway: The Summoning Rituals of the Left

The malignant playbook of the contemporary left is generally considered to be Saul Alinsky’s 1989 “Rules for Radicals,” and there is certainly much truth to the story of the book’s destructive influence. But the source text for social and political upheaval is Richard Cloward and Francis Fox Piven’s far more detailed and authoritative 1997 manual, “The Breaking of the American Social Compact.” The Cloward-Piven strategy seeks to hasten the fall of the free market and the republican structure of government by overloading the administrative apparatus with an avalanche of impossible demands, thus pushing society into crisis mode and eventual economic collapse. Choking the welfare rolls, for example, would serve to generate a political and financial meltdown, break the budget, jam the bureaucratic gears, and bring the system crashing down. The fear, turmoil, and violence accompanying such a debacle would provide the perfect conditions for fostering radical change. We see the strategy in action today, . . . […] As Stephen McDonald warns on Liberty Island, Cloward-Piven in action would probably mean “an America gone red in tooth and claw, [p]roperty confiscation at a minimum, re-education camps [and] the country in ruins. If that wasn’t the probable outcome, leftoids wouldn’t be pushing for a Cloward-Piven result in the first place.” As for the tandem in question, we have met the type before: dissociated academics who serve the Prince of Lies rather than seek truth through disinterested scholarship. And as for their acolytes, they are the locusts of the political underworld creating nation-destroying havoc where there was none before.

Davis: The Problem With Biden’s Plan to House Illegal Aliens

Another racket designed for very clear purposes. […] The White House is requesting roughly $1 billion in funding to set up new housing for illegal aliens while their overwhelmingly illegitimate asylum claims play out in the courts. Under the administration’s plan, beneficiaries of this new program would be free to go where they wish during the day, but would have to check in and stay the night in their houses, according to Axios. But, here’s the kicker. According to the Washington Free Beacon, the language of the White House’s proposal would allow Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to use any of its funding on housing for illegal aliens instead of enforcement. […] As former Acting ICE Director and Immigration Reform Law Institute Senior Fellow Tom Homan put it, this program would “would serve as yet another enticement, another magnet that will bring more families to our borders.” […] The administration’s proposed housing program appears to be another racket, designed to weaken our borders under the guise of compassion. Everyone agrees that foreign nationals, even those who cross our border illegally, deserve to be treated humanely and compassionately while they’re here, but this housing plan goes far beyond that. Instead, the  plan uses the promise of free housing and freedom of movement to lure more foreign nationals into the country, and it does so during a time when many Americans have been forced to live on the streets due to the lack of affordable housing in the U.S.

Andrews: Biden’s alcohol czar warns Americans could soon be told to limit themselves to just two beers per WEEK under strict new booze guidelines

Americans could officially be urged to drink no more than two beers a week as part of strict new alcohol guidelines. Biden’s health czar told DailyMail.com the USDA could revise its alcohol advice to match Canada‘s, where people are advised to have just two drinks per week. Dr George Koob — who admits enjoying a couple of glasses of Chardonnay a week — said he was watching Canada’s ‘big experiment’ with interest. ‘If there’s health benefits, I think people will start to re-evaluate where we’re at [in the US],’ he told DailyMail.com. Current US recommendations say women can have up to one bottle of beer, small glass of wine or shot of spirit a day while men can have two. But those guidelines are up for review in 2025.

Elkind: Biden’s food stamp expansion linked to 15% jump in grocery prices, study says

Overall spending on the Supplemental Assistance Nutrition Program (SNAP) more than doubled between 2019 and 2022, according to findings from the Foundation for Government Accountability (FGA) previewed by Fox News Digital. It went from $4.5 billion in 2019 to $11 billion in 2022, the study said. The group has argued that the increased spending on food stamps has helped fuel the price hikes that everyday Americans have contended with during a time of high inflation. “USDA cooked their books to hike food stamp benefits by 27% — the largest permanent increase in program history. And they bypassed Congress to do it,” said Jonathan Ingram, Vice President of Policy and Research at the Foundation for Government Accountability.

Daily Wire: Is This The Most Offensive Example Of ‘Womanface’ Yet?

What’s with all the “womanface” being thrown around in 2023? Even if you don’t know what the term means, you’ve probably seen it in action: Confused men who think of themselves as women, and in turn, don exaggerated traditional female attire and behave like women in an over-the-top manner. To those outside the LGBTQ+ rainbow mafia, it’s entirely offensive and no more acceptable than “blackface.” (See Dylan Mulvaney) Regardless of the criticism, countless brands have flocked toward LGBTQ “influencers” to promote their products. In turn, these companies have flipped the metaphorical bird to their customers who oppose wokeism. Each time it happens, the breakdown of norms seems more shocking than the last, but a recent paid Instagram ad from Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day and self-identifying “black, queer, and nonbinary femme” Christopher Griffin might be the most offensive one yet.

Barone: Single Women Are the Odd Men Out, Politically

In general, women are more risk-averse than men, and thus more supportive of welfare state measures and more reluctant to support military action. They are also, as we have seen on female-dominated campuses, more willing to suppress speech that is seen as irritating or hurtful. “Highly educated women,” as Australian educator Lorenzo Warby writes, “are proving all too willing to trash other people’s freedoms to protect their emotions.” Surveys show that, after 50 years of feminism, American women are increasingly likely to report themselves as unhappy, a characteristic especially marked in unmarried young liberal women with no religious connection. Of course, happiness is a subjective condition, perhaps subject to change in definition over time. But it’s hard to avoid the conclusion of economist Tyler Cowen that “current political debate in America cannot be understood without the concept of neuroticism — as a formal concept from personality psychology — front and center.”

Ciarrochi: ‘The Book of Virtues’ – More Important Now Than Ever

William Bennett saw that America was coming apart in the early 1990s. He saw the troubling indicators, from the weakening of the family and falling test scores in schools to a changing economy. These warnings had many questioning the American future. So the former educator and policymaker took on the challenge of giving us a roadmap to fixing what was broken. His goal was to find things that united us as a nation by reminding us of the virtues that had been seen as important – even necessary – for centuries. Bennett wrote “The Book of Virtues” – and later its companion versions for children and teenagers – because he believed that there were virtues that we all could embrace. The book is still so highly regarded that Bennett – along with his wife, Elayne – issued a 30th anniversary edition in 2022. […] Though some of the stories in the updated edition are different – some removed, some added – the book’s virtues were not changed. To the timeless accounts from classics like the Bible and the tales of Aesop, the Bennetts added stories from relatively recent pillars of virtue – Mother Theresa, Navy Seal Michael Murphy (a posthumous Medal of Honor recipient who died saving his comrades in Afghanistan), and the heroes of 9/11. When asked by City Journal’s Robert Pondiscio if he had considered changing the virtues, Bennett responded in the most William Bennett way: “C.S. Lewis said you could no more invent a new virtue than a new color.” […] Each chapter covers a virtue – what it is, why it’s important, and why it matters – through stories, tales and commentaries: Responsibility. Courage. Compassion. Loyalty. Honesty. Friendship. Persistence. Hard work. Self-discipline. Faith.

Barkoukis: There’s a Major Problem With Ramaswamy’s Defense of Soros Scholarship

When Ramaswamy accepted the award in 2011, he was a first-year law student at Yale and had been working for several years as an investment analyst at the hedge fund QVT Financial. In 2011, the same year he accepted the award, Ramaswamy reported $2,252,209 in total income, according to his tax returns, which he released in June. He reported a total of $1,173,690 in income in the three years prior. (Fox News)

O’Brien: The Dr. Zhivago Treatment: Welcome migrants, bye-bye property rights

There is a famous scene in the film Dr. Zhivago where the eponymous doctor returns to his private home to find that the Bolsheviks have seized it and decided to house 30 families there. As Zhivago, who has been off fighting on behalf of Mother Russia, attempts to wrap his head around the new status quo, a socialist housing commissar scolds him for ever having had such a luxurious home in the first place. Most Americans watch that part of the movie and think, “That could never happen here!” After all, the Third Amendment to the Constitution of the United States specifically states . . . […] So, American homes should be safe from the Zhivago treatment, right? […] What are radical, globalist mayors and lieutenant governors to do when they find themselves with egg on their faces? They expect regular Janes and Joes to clean up their mess. In June of this year, New York City Mayor Eric Adams asked everyday New Yorkers to consider housing migrants in spare rooms in their private residences. More recently, Commonwealth of Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll jumped on the bandwagon and appealed to Bay State residents to “host” migrants in “an extra room or suite.” […] So far, these measures seem to have been taken with the cooperation (and compensation) of property owners. […] If they’re comfortable disregarding immigration laws, simply because they dislike them, what’s to stop them from disregarding private property laws that interfere with their political agenda?

Venker: What If The Answer To Skyrocketing Childcare Costs Is Staying Home With Your Kids?

According to Care.com, the average cost of full-time, center-based infant daycare in 2023 is $1,136 per month. That’s per child. To help solve this problem, finance blogger Ivana Pino suggests six ways to lower the costs of childcare — none of which is helpful and one of which includes using debt! Practical suggestions such as relocating to a cheaper area of the country or moving closer to family didn’t make the list. But the most glaring omission is the option for a parent to stay home. Why not forgo the childcare expense altogether and use that money to ease a family’s financial burdens? In my recent YouTube video on daycare, one commenter conceded that his wife’s entire paycheck goes to pay for daycare. Her entire paycheck! That may be an extreme example, but it is nevertheless true that a majority of Americans spend 20 percent or more of their household income on childcare. Married couples would be wise to put pen to paper in order to determine if that second income offsets their daycare costs.

Sundance: BRICS Economic Bloc Expands Adding Iran, Argentina, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Ethiopia During Summit

The original BRICS economic alliance between Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa has expanded today. During the summit held in South Africa, the group which is home to about 40% of the world’s population and a quarter of global gross domestic product, voted to accept the applications of Iran, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Ethiopia. What we see forming now is further evidence of the great energy cleaving. As most western nations chase the World Economic Forum’s priority around ‘climate change’, the BRICS alliance hedges for more traditional energy sources (oil, natural gas, coal). China will benefit the most as the Western industrial economies will not be able to compete in a global market using windmills and solar panels. The western alliance (yellow) will be chasing climate change energy policy to power their economies. The rest of the world (grey) will be using traditional and more efficient energy development. The global cleaving around energy use would be complete.

Imanuelsen: Norway LOCKED Man in Psychiatric Ward for Questioning mRNA Shots

This is about a Norwegian man named Trond Harald Haaland. He has long been outspoken about things like the World Economic Forum, climate change and vaccine passports. He has posted a lot about the excess death rates we have been seeing after the roll out of the mRNA vaccines. In other words, this is a man who does not believe the mainstream media narrative. He thinks for himself. And he has been actively criticizing the Norwegian health system for what happened during the pandemic. Among other things, earlier this year he sent a letter to a very senior doctor in his region to demand a stop to covid vaccination of children 5 to 11 years old. Now someone had anonymously reported him to the police for being “mentally unstable”. We have no idea who it was. Could be anyone. It could be some antifa extremist that had reported him for all we know. Then the police contacted the health system based on this anonymous tip.

That is all that was needed for two “health care workers” together with two uniformed police officers to arrive at his door and forcibly haul the man away and lock him up in a psychiatric ward.
