Judge Tanya Chutkan’s unfairly harsh treatment of Defendant Trump. This past week, the Government submitted a proposed protective order in its DC case against Donald Trump. It was broad, proposing the Court restrict Trump’s ability to communicate any exculpatory evidence to the broader public during the 2024 election: all materials provided by the Government could only be used by Trump and his attorneys “solely in connection with the defense of this case, and for no other purpose.” That request was made to Obama-nominated District of Columbia Federal Judge Tanya Chutkan, who oversees Trump’s DC case. For context, that case undoubtedly involves hundreds of witnesses, terabytes of information, and millions of pages of documents. Typically, Judge Chutkan would allow for at least one week for Trump’s team to file a response. (the Court’s local rules allow 14 days to respond to motions). How do we know that? Because we went through Judge Chutkan’s other cases where a protective order was disputed – more on that below. Curiously, however, Judge Chutkan decided to demand an expedited briefing and hearing schedule – against the reasonable requests of Trump’s attorneys, who requested just a little bit extra time. Here’s the timeline: . . . […] Judge Chutkan’s history suggests that she is specifically targeting Trump, . . . […] As you can see, when the scope of a protective order is disputed, Judge Chutkan typically sets out a reasonable schedule and allows for a defendant to have one week to respond to the government’s proposed protective order. It’s also her standard practice to conduct a hearing on the protective order weeks after it is submitted.

Moore: Utah Man Accused of Threatening the President Shot and Killed During FBI Attempt to Serve Warrant

74-year-old Craig Deleeuw Robertson of Provo, Utah, was shot and killed early Wednesday morning as the FBI attempted to serve a warrant at his home. According to reports, Robertson was armed and had made multiple threats against President Joe Biden, who was traveling to the state later in the day. The shooting happened around 6:15 am local time as agents attempted to serve search and arrest warrants at Robertson’s home. […] A criminal complaint filed in the U.S. District Court in Utah and obtained by CBS News details graphic threats gathered during an FBI investigation against a number of public officials. The suspect named in the complaint, Craig Deleeuw Robertson, was charged with three federal counts, including threats against a president. Authorities have not publicly confirmed the man who was killed is the man named in the complaint. […] Neighbors described Robertson as a frail, elderly man — his online profile put his age as 74 — who walked with the aid of a hand-carved stick. Though he regularly carried guns, they said he didn’t seem a threat. “There’s no way that he was driving from here to Salt Lake City, setting up a rifle and taking a shot at the president — 100% no way,” said neighbor Andrew Maunder outside the church across from Robertson’s street. Unsurprisingly, the tally for coverage of the third Trump indictment on ABC, CBS, and NBC further ballooned on Wednesday night and Thursday morning with an additional six minutes and 39 seconds, which puts the overall total at 341 minutes and 19 seconds. In what also shouldn’t be a surprise, there wasn’t any mention of Biden family scandals, leaving the total over the same time period (now the evening of August 1 through the morning of August 10) at four minutes and 50 seconds. That said, the ratio of Trump indictment coverage to mentions of Biden scandals in this time period remained at an astounding 71-to-1 split.

On Wednesday, House Oversight Committee chairman James Comer (R-KY) released records detailing payments that the Biden family received from corrupt business associates in foreign countries like Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan. Guggenheim: IRS unable to locate millions of tax records, watchdog says

The IRS lost track of millions of sensitive individual and business tax records that should have been transferred from a closed agency facility in California and is also unable to locate thousands of records that were stored at a facility in Utah, according to a new watchdog report.

As part of a review of the IRS’ mandatory storage of old tax records in microfilm backup cartridges, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration said in a report released Thursday that it found significant deficiencies in safeguarding and accounting for millions of tax records that contain sensitive taxpayer information.

Miller: Dems across the country defecting to GOP: ‘Democratic Party has become unrecognizable’

Five Democratic state lawmakers have defected to the Republican Party so far in 2023, part of a growing trend experts say is caused by red states becoming redder and blue states becoming bluer. Ten state lawmakers switched parties in 2023, and six of them switched between major parties, Politico reported. Out of those six defectors from major parties, five switched from Democrat to Republican. Just two state lawmakers changed political affiliation in all of 2022. […] Overall, 173 state lawmakers have switched parties since 1994, and 83 of them were Democrats who switched to the GOP. Just 23 switched to the Democratic Party from the Republican Party.

The California Energy Commission (CEC) voted Wednesday to delay the closure of three gas-fired power plants in Southern California due to concerns that doing so prematurely could elevate the risks of blackouts, according to The Associated Press. The CEC made the decision to extend the life of the plants through 2026, rather than by the end of this year as initially planned, so that they can be available to stave off blackouts during periods of elevated demand and emergencies, according to the AP. The plan to delay the closures still needs approval by vote from the California State Water Resources Control Board, which could happen as early as next week, according to the AP.

The mother posted: ‘This is what police do when dealing with autistic children. My daughter told me the police officer looked like her nana, who is a lesbian. ‘The officer took it the wrong way and said it was a homophobic comment [it wasn’t]. The girl’s mother says: ‘She’s made a comment in her own house, she hasn’t said anything to you.’ The mother repeats ‘she’s autistic’, to which the officer responds: ‘I don’t care.’ The girl then makes some noises, which her mother explains was her punching herself in distress. The officers remain in the hallway as the mother shouts out: ‘You’re going to remove her for what, she said the word lesbian? Her nana is a lesbian, she’s married to a woman. She’s not homophobic.’ A male officer intervenes, saying a homophobic comment had been made to his colleague.

Koren: Finnish Grandmother Is Back In Court Facing ‘Hate Speech’ Charges For Tweeting Bible Verses

The enormous implications of Päivi Räsänen’s case for fundamental freedoms have triggered international outrage. n 2019, Päivi Räsänen did what any one of us might do — she tweeted at her church. Her tweet was simple and peaceful. She questioned the choice to sponsor a local pride parade. She questioned, was this befitting of their Christian faith? And she attached a scripture passage to the tweet. Räsänen will be headed to court for the second time on criminal charges of “hate speech.” This longstanding member of the Finnish Parliament, medical doctor, and grandmother has faced onerous prosecution for four years at the hands of Finland’s government for a tweet. Subjected to 13 hours of police interrogation, authorities dug into her past, charging her with three counts of “agitation against a minority group” for the tweet, in addition to a 2004 church pamphlet and 2019 radio appearance. Bishop Juhana Pohjola of Finland’s Evangelical Lutheran Church also was criminally charged for publishing the pamphlet, which discusses a Biblical-based understanding of marriage and human sexuality. Their charges carried with them tens of thousands of euros in fines and even the possibility of a two-year prison sentence.
