That the Biden campaign was behind the letter of 51 ex-intel officers falsely claiming that the Hunter Biden laptop was a Russian operation was obvious. And the stunt would have been politics as usual if not for the fact that the officials were leveraging official positions and supposed access to secret intelligence to make those claims. And, more importantly, those claims were then used to engage to coordinate a Big Tech censorship campaign to prevent the story from spreading on social media. And the media promoted the letter as a fact and used it to justify not reporting on the Hunter Biden laptop during the election or describing it as Russian disinformation.

On Wednesday, the Senate Fiscal Policy Committee filed a substitute to SB 7050 that includes numerous changes to the original version of the proposed law. As originally written, SB 7050 would expand the power of the state’s Office of Election Crimes and Security to review and conduct preliminary investigations into “any alleged election irregularity,” as well as “make referrals for further legal action” to the Office of Statewide Prosecution, the Department of Law Enforcement, and the “state attorney with jurisdiction over the matter.” “The statewide prosecutor receiving a complaint referred by the office shall investigate the complaint promptly and thoroughly, undertake any related criminal action as justified by law, and report to the office the results of any such investigation, any related action taken, and the final disposition of the complaint,” the bill reads. […] The proposed committee substitute for SB 7050 also doesn’t incorporate a key provision from the original version that would have required individuals registering to vote for the first time in Florida and who the state “has verified has not been issued a social security number, a current and valid Florida driver license, or a current and valid Florida identification card” to vote “in person the first time [he or she] votes in [Florida].” The provision includes exceptions for those permitted to vote absentee as specified by federal law.

First, this business has been going on for a quite long time. One of my very first college research papers (still in my possession, from 1993) was dedicated to debunking this widespread and entrenched claim that ancient Egyptians were Black — as in sub-Saharan African Black. On the one hand, one can sympathize with the motive behind this claim: to give sub-Saharan Africans a source of pride, to present them as one of the first great civilizations. On the other hand, you cannot warp the truth — that is, foist a lie — without negative consequences.

Arden: REI to close Portland Pearl District store, blames break-ins

In an email sent to members, REI said the Portland store had its highest number of break-ins and thefts in two decades despite actions to provide extra security. The company confirmed the closure in a statement sent to KOIN 6 News and said in addition to safety concerns, the company has outgrown its current space in the Pearl District. Spokesperson Megan Behrbaum said the building requires significant investment to address issues and the company has been unable to reach an agreement with the landlord. (4/20/23) Tonkin: Has dead, 600lbs NASA satellite crashed in Africa? Hunt for spacecraft the size of a shipping container amid fears it may have landed in Chad overnight

NASA refused to disclose its re-entry location but the satellite is thought to have come down between 00:50 BST and 02:50 BST this morning (19:50 ET and 21:50 ET yesterday). Satellite-tracking website Satflare suggests it may have crashed in Chad, Libya or Sudan, but this is yet to be confirmed. There is also a good chance that some or all of the spacecraft burnt up upon re-entry.
