Former President Donald Trump joined with imprisoned Jan. 6 defendants on Thursday night to release a charity single entitled “Justice for All,” designed to raise money for some of the defendants’ families and call attention to concerns about equal application of the law. The officially released track debuted as a digital single and a vintage vinyl record on several streaming services. Both Trump and a group of incarcerated demonstrators, dubbed the J6 Prison Choir, contribute vocals to the track. The prisoners recorded their contributions through a jailhouse phone. The tracks consists of the Jan. 6 prisoners singing the “Star Spangled Banner” while Trump recites the Pledge of Allegiance.

Richardson: House Votes To Overturn ‘Overreaching’ Biden Water Rule

The House of Representatives voted 227-198 Thursday to overturn the Biden administration’s “waters of the United States” (WOTUS) rule, which has been heavily criticized for broadening the definition of what are considered “navigable waters” subject to federal regulation under the Clean Water Act. Republicans say the rule places a costly burden on landowners, ranchers, and farmers by claiming regulatory control over lands containing small streams and wetlands. All but one Republican, Pennsylvania Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, voted to overturn the rule, with nine Democrats joining.

Saavedra: House Democrats Vote Against Bill To Classify Fentanyl As Schedule I Drug While Thousands Die From Overdoses

Democrats on the House Energy and Commerce Committee voted against a bill this week to classify fentanyl-related substances (FRS) as Schedule I substances — a vote that comes even as a record number of Americans are dying from those compounds every year. The committee’s health subcommittee approved the bill in a 17-10 vote with every Democrat, except for Rep. Angie Craig (MN), voting against the measure. Republicans are pushing the legislation because it will increase the mandatory minimum sentence for anyone caught having those substances in their possession, which they believe will lead to a significant reduction in their spread across the country. More than 70,000 Americans die per year from synthetic opioid overdoses, with fentanyl driving most of those deaths.

Pearce: Iran Ups Weapons Shipments To Russia With Millions Of Rounds Of Ammo: Report

Iran has reportedly sent an estimated 100 million bullets and 300,000 shells to Russia to aid it in its war in Ukraine. Iran sent the supplies via two Russian-flagged cargo ships that sailed from Iran in January, according to U.K.-based Sky News. The shipment contained ammunition for rocket launchers, mortars, and machine guns to refill Russia’s depleted stores. “Iran sent two cargo ships to the combat zone in Ukraine, carrying approximately 200 new shipping containers that contained ammunition for the Russian fighting in Ukraine,” a security source told Sky News. “Two hundred containers on two ships are capable of carrying this amount of munitions.”

Bahney: Mortgage rates rise for the fifth-straight week

Mortgage rates edged further toward 7%, rising for the fifth consecutive week, as the Federal Reserve suggests rate increases will continue amid stubborn inflation. The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.73% in the week ending March 9, up from 6.65% the week before, according to data from Freddie Mac released Thursday. A year ago, the 30-year fixed-rate was 3.85%. After hitting a 2022 high of 7.08% in November, rates had been trending down. However, they started climbing again in February, rising half a percentage point over the past month. Robust economic data continues to suggest the Federal Reserve is not done in its battle to cool the US economy and will likely continue hiking its benchmark lending rate.

Kashiwagi: Senate confirms Biden’s IRS nominee Daniel Werfel

He was approved on a bipartisan 54-42 vote. Werfel’s confirmation to the agency comes after he was grilled by the Senate Committee on Finance last month on how he plans to utilize the money in new funding coming to the IRS over the next decade to revitalize the tax agency as taxpayers could see increased audit rates. Democrats approved the $80 billion for the agency last year when they approved the Inflation Reduction Act in a party-line vote. Democrats backed the funding in its bid to crack down on tax dodgers and to provide better services for taxpayers, arguing that the IRS could boost federal revenue by more than $100 billion over the 10-year time period if they collect more in taxes. But Republicans have made the IRS and the new funding a political target, claiming that the money will create additional audits for taxpayers.

The front page is the most prized real estate, with reporters vying to have their stories appear in that coveted space on A-1. Just as one can get a good idea of what is important to the editors by what runs on the front page, what doesn’t appear there is equally revealing, if not more so. […] The three officers were reported to be in stable condition, an outcome for which we can be grateful, but the fact that the officers survived doesn’t lessen the magnitude of the story, which held the attention of L.A.’s electronic media through the evening and into the next day. So I was curious to see how the story would be covered in the Los Angeles Times, which, as I have pointed out many times before (here and here, for two recent examples), is proudly and sometimes dishonestly hostile to law enforcement in general and the LAPD in particular. And the Times did indeed sink to my expectations. On the paper’s front page Thursday morning, the only reference to the shooting was at the bottom-left corner, an invitation to turn to the second section for the story.

Nathan Thomas, declared, “We’re infusing DEI into the fabric of the School of Medicine and the institution.” In 2021, UNC Health hired its first Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer at $126,000/year. Neither employee holds a medical doctorate; both serve the UNC School of Medicine Health Executives Committee. Executive Dean of the School of Medicine, Cristy Page, co-authored a paper about systemic racism in the healthcare workforce, which read like a wordsearch puzzle of woke jargon. The paper concluded that merit would no longer be required for leadership positions, and all UNC employees would need unconscious bias training.

Millennials are seeking more professional help for health issues than ever, a new study revealed. Conducted by United Healthcare and Health Action Council, the study explored factors and claims data from policyholders ages 27 to 42 — a total of 126,000 individuals. It compared current data from April 2021 through March 2022 to historical data dating back to 2012. The findings were presented in the groups’ sixth annual white paper. Millennials with common chronic medical conditions and their children are “high utilizers” of the health care system compared to Generation X, the research found. This includes 106% more hospital admissions for millennials with diabetes and 55% more emergency room (ER) and urgent care (UC) visits for hypertension.

Saric: Norfolk Southern train derails in Alabama, third in several weeks

Another Norfolk Southern train derailed in Alabama on Thursday morning, the company confirmed in a statement to Axios. Driving the news: This is the third such incident since early February. A derailment of a two-mile long freight train in East Palestine, Ohio that was carrying hazardous chemicals has put a spotlight on the company and left residents of East Palestine concerned about the safety of their air and water.

Leftist Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, also known as AMLO, threatened the Republican Party during a press conference on Thursday for wanting to use the U.S. military to destroy the nation’s powerful multi-billion dollar drug cartels. Obrador’s remarks come as Republican lawmakers and top former officials, like former Attorney General William Barr, have called for using the U.S. military in recent weeks to put an end to the billions of dollars worth of drugs pouring into the U.S., which are responsible for tens of thousands of deaths per year. The cartels made $13 billion last year from human smuggling alone. […] “Mexico is to be respected. We are not a protectorate of the United States. Nor a colony of the United States. Mexico is a free, independent, and sovereign country.”
