Are AI demons real? “Whose image is on this coin?” When his rivals in Jerusalem presented him with a Roman denarius, Jesus pointed out that the face of Caesar was impressed onto the silver. By implication, what belongs to God is you: “God said, ‘let us make mankind in our image’” (Genesis 1:26). The worth of the human soul is as far beyond that of a silver coin as the majesty of God is above that of Caesar. Rulers leave an imprint of themselves on the creations they treasure. On us–on the soul-shaped flesh of humanity, capable of loving and knowing truth–Love and Truth himself has left his mark. In Greek, one word for such a royal seal is charactēr. By an easy metaphorical jump, this is how we arrive at our English word “character”: the kind of person you are is like an imprint pressed into you. Now, what if we undertook to remake ourselves in our own likeness, impressed with our own seal? If we shaped a simulacrum of our humanity, not as we are but as we have come to see ourselves, would we end up with a machine run by algorithmic rules? A dead thing that looks and acts like us but cannot think or feel? And whose image would be pressed into this counterfeit coinage–this ragdoll puppet with strings of computer code? I thought about these questions recently when a friend told me about Loab, the AI demon woman.

Republican lawmakers indicated this will be the first of many hearings into the administration’s handling of the pandemic. A separate committee will investigate questions around the potentially fraudulent mishandling of $5 trillion in COVID-19 relief funds. “President Biden’s public health leaders are here today because they have broken the American people’s trust,” Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) said in her opening remarks. Now, nearly three years later, a coalition of medical professionals is demanding government officials answer for their actions. In a new 80-page report, the Norfolk Group, which is comprised of figures such as Drs. Jay Bhattacharya and Martin Kulldorff, lays out a blueprint “containing key public health questions” for a possible congressional “COVID-19 commission.” Throughout the document, the authors raise valid concerns and queries about the U.S. government’s and the medical industry’s handling of the Covid pandemic, in an effort to make sure that such destructive maladministration never happens again. 1. What Could Have Been Done to Better Protect Older, High-Risk Americans? As noted in the report, age is the “single most important risk factor in predicting hospitalization or death” for Covid patients. Take for example the fact that from the beginning of the outbreak until June 2020, residents of long-term care facilities comprised 40 percent of Covid-related deaths in the country. Given such information, it remains completely implausible why Democrat governors such as former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo would order infectious, Covid-positive patients into nursing homes, placing other vulnerable seniors at risk of infection. What would justify such a decision? And how many lives were lost because of it? 2. Why Was Natural Immunity to Covid Ignored? Immunity to viruses acquired through prior infection (otherwise known as natural immunity) has been a globally recognized concept for centuries. So, why was it so outwardly dismissed by health agencies when it came to Covid?

On February 16, 2022, a full week before Putin sent combat troops into Ukraine, the Ukrainian Army began the heavy bombardment of the area (in east Ukraine) occupied by mainly ethnic Russians. Officials from the Observer Mission of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) were located in the vicinity at the time and kept a record of the shelling as it took place. What the OSCE discovered was that the bombardment dramatically intensified as the week went on until it reached a peak on February 19, when a total of 2,026 artillery strikes were recorded. Keep in mind, the Ukrainian Army was, in fact, shelling civilian areas along the Line of Contact that were occupied by other Ukrainians. We want to emphasize that the officials from the OSCE were operating in their professional capacity gathering first-hand evidence of shelling in the area. What their data shows is that Ukrainian Forces were bombing and killing their own people. This has all been documented and has not been challenged. So, the question we must all ask ourselves is this: Is the bombardment and slaughter of one’s own people an ‘act of war’? We think it is. And if we are right, then we must logically assume that the war began before the Russian invasion (which was launched a full week later) We must also assume that Russia’s alleged “unprovoked aggression” was not unprovoked at all but was the appropriate humanitarian response to the deliberate killing of civilians. In order to argue that the Russian invasion was ‘not provoked’, we would have to say that firing over 4,000 artillery shells into towns and neighborhoods where women and children live, is not a provocation? Who will defend that point of view? […] This, of course, is a major break with the “official narrative” which identifies Russia as the perpetrator of hostilities. But, as we’ve shown, that simply isn’t the case. The official narrative is wrong. Even so, it might not surprise you to know that most of the mainstream media completely omitted any coverage of the OSCE’s fact-finding activities in east Ukraine. The one exception to was Reuters that published a deliberately opaque account published on February 18 titled “Russia voices alarm over sharp increase of Donbass shelling”. Here’s an excerpt: . . .

And it seemed obvious to me that without natural resources, Russians would be poorer than Ukrainians. Yet all my Russian acquaintances in Ukraine, who spoke to me as if I were one of them (I speak very good Russian), only whined about Ukraine, while never even considering going back to Russia (these X-Ukrainians reminded me so much of America’s own X-American eternal victim classes).

Covid-19 shots are included in new schedules of routinely recommended vaccines released by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday. The immunization schedules summarize current vaccine recommendations for children, adolescents and adults, but do not set vaccine requirements for schools or workplaces. Key changes to the schedules, published in the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report on Thursday, include the addition of Covid-19 primary vaccine series and recommendations on booster dose vaccination; updated guidance on influenza and pneumococcal vaccines; and new vaccines for measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) and for hepatitis B.

Bray: Ordered Disobedience

In October of 1944, US troops landing on Leyte Island in the Philippines were menaced from the sea by an enormous Japanese naval fleet that was divided into three separate attack forces. Summarizing aggressively, the American ground forces were protected against an attack from the sea by the US Navy’s Third Fleet, commanded by Bull Halsey. But Halsey suddenly wasn’t there anymore, taking the bait of a decoy attack force and chasing it out into the sea. The Third Fleet’s departure uncovered Leyte Gulf, and the largest of the Japanese attack forces sailed in. Disaster became likely. There were two American naval task forces in the path of the Japanese attack force, Taffy 2 and Taffy 3, but neither were meant for serious naval combat. They were supporting forces, designed to help the troops on the ground: a few escort carriers, a few lightly armed destroyer escorts, a very few destroyers. Aircraft on the American escort carriers were armed with 100-pound bombs to provide close air support to the infantry. The Japanese First Task Force had four battleships, eight cruisers, and eleven destroyers. One of the Japanese battleships was the Yamato, armed with 18-inch guns. The Japanese attack force sailed directly into contact with Taffy 3, which didn’t realize they were about to face the main Japanese attack force until they were already within range of its guns. The commander of Taffy 3, Rear Admiral Clifton Sprague, saw immediately that his task force couldn’t survive the engagement, so he tried to salvage what he could: . . .

The Arizona Senate’s Election Committee continued the second part of a hearing on Monday that began last week, featuring testimony from election integrity proponents. Shelby Busch, the co-founder of We the People AZ, and Heather Honey of Verify Vote, went over five areas where their team found apparent law violations by Maricopa County in the 2022 election. Busch said during her presentation, “We want safe elections, not convenient ones,” sparking applause from the audience. State Senator Wendy Rogers (R-Flagstaff), the committee chair, kept a tight rein over the proceedings, often calling out the Democratic senators on the committee when they were out of line. One used the phrase “election denier,” and Rogers told her it was inappropriate.

International Man: The Soviet Union used the diagnosis of mental illness as a tool to silence political dissenters. It was a practice known as “psychiatric repression.” Dissidents who spoke out against the government were often declared insane and forcibly institutionalized in psychiatric hospitals, where the government subjected them to inhumane treatment and abuses. The diagnoses were often based on political rather than medical criteria and were used as a means of punishment and control. What is your take on this practice? Doug Casey: Well, before we get into what happened in the Soviet Union, and what seems to now be happening in the US, we really have to address the validity of psychiatry as a science to start with, and mental illness as being a real illness. […] I would submit psychiatry is a phony and dangerous specialty to start with. And putting psychiatrists pseudoscientists in charge of determining what’s good think and bad think is very dangerous. Receiving data from across the employment spectrum, the survey sought to quantify the types of jobs and habits that contribute to a well-lived life. The image that emerges pays homage to the benefits of old-fashioned virtue. According to the survey, quality of work and time spent outdoors are among the most significant indicators for self-reported happiness. These are followed up by church participation, exercise and recreation, and various community related voluntary activity.

Against the lived experience of happy people, the creeds of today’s progressives, who have progressed right past their own former liberalism, seem patently absurd—as if manufactured to renounce the very conditions of happiness. In its multitudinous iterations, we can observe the deconstruction of the conditions for happiness. […] How has this come to be? The liberalism of the nineties may have had its rough edges, but at least it seemed invested in maximizing happiness. But what kind? A senior leader of the Kuomintang (KMT), Taiwan’s main opposition party, is visiting China this week to meet its top Taiwan policymaker, the party announced, in the wake of persistent military and political hostilities between the two sides. China has claimed Taiwan for its own, to be reunified with the mainland, by force if necessary, and for the past three years the communist regime in Beijing has increased pressure on Taiwan with actions such as conducting regular military drills near the island. The KMT’s deputy chairman, Andrew Hsia, left for China on Feb. 8 to meet Song Tao, the newly appointed head of China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, in a rare high-level interaction between top politicians from Taiwan and China, amid current frosty relations.

Since the fall of the Roman Empire, foreign influence has had a significant presence in Italian politics. Greeks, Barbarians, Normans, Spanish, French, Austrians, Germans, and Americans have all occupied or colonized Italian soil, and the Vatican has maintained a centuries long influence over Italian affairs as well. Italy’s political leaders have long recognized the practical necessity of forming advantageous alliances.After Giorgia Meloni and her coalition partners came to power in the Italian elections last fall, some critics of reflexive Atlanticism expressed hope that her government would break with the antagonistic stance toward Russia espoused by the U.S.-led NATO alliance. These hopes were met with disappointment when Meloni made clear that Italy would retain strong support for Ukraine, as well as close ties and coordination with Washington and London. Writer Christopher Caldwell has noted that the woke leftist ideas that Meloni opposes so strongly “come out of American academic culture, are imposed by American civil-rights law, and are promoted abroad by American military and economic might,” which makes Meloni’s support of Washington’s foreign policy agenda a contradiction.
