Two prominent governors who could be their parties’ nominees for president next year outlined competing visions for the country in largely ignored inaugural addresses this month. In their speeches, Florida’s Ron DeSantis and California’s Gavin Newsom both focused on freedom—Newsom invoked the term 17 times, DeSantis 12—and the perceived sins of their enemies. Each man also referenced the other, though not by name, hinting that each understands the potential for a DeSantis–Newsom showdown, whether in 2024 or later. Their contrasting styles and visions are worth examining. DeSantis’s liberal critics often accuse him of being a dictatorial Trump clone. But his concise, 1,649-word inaugural address was all-business, with no Trumpian bluster and no stories about his working-class background or his family, beyond thanking his wife, Casey, whom he refers to as the First Lady. Newsom, by contrast, called his wife, Jennifer, the First Partner, and spent nearly half the speech talking about his own life. The California governor seemed eager to paint himself as a victim. Newsom said that he spent some of the “longest hours” of his first term thinking about his childhood, which he characterized as one of “divorce and dyslexia.” He portrayed himself as a directionless youth who “couldn’t read,” with a father (a state judge) who “left us.” Newsom bizarrely described . . . […] In California, registered Democrats outnumber registered Republicans by more than 5 million, while in Florida, Republicans hold just a 356,212-vote advantage. Yet, DeSantis’s 19.4 percent margin of victory was 1 percentage point greater than Newsom’s. The “battle lines are drawn,” Newsom said in his speech, and he’s right. Florida ranks Number One in recent net migration, while California ranks last among the 50 states. Voters may soon decide which leader’s vision of freedom they prefer—the one promising more wokeness or the one pledging to fight it.

Boyd: With New Pistol Brace Rule, ATF Seeks To Turn Millions Of Law-Abiding Gun Owners Into Felons

At the behest of President Joe Biden, the unelected bureaucrats at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives plan to finalize a rule that will turn the up to 40 million estimated Americans who legally obtained pistol brace-equipped firearms into federal felons. The rule seeks to reclassify firearms with pistol braces as short-barrel rifles (SBR), which require extra registration with the government and a tax stamp that normally totals $200 under the National Firearms Act (NFA). The ATF signaled it may waive the fee, which it does not technically have the authority to do since the Treasury collects the tax. To avoid 10 years in jail and a potential $10,000 fine, gun owners must reclassify their legally obtained weapons as short barrel rifles through a months-long, red tape-plagued, and expensive process or destroy the pistol brace. Once the ATF publishes its final rule in the federal register, gun owners will have 120 days to bring their firearms into compliance. Yet the ATF warns that Americans with pistol braces are likely already “violating the [National Firearms Act] by possessing an unregistered rifle with a barrel of less than 16 inches.”

Wells Fargo abruptly ended its business with a well-known gun dealer in a move emblematic of the increasing hostility big banks are showing towards the firearms industry. […] “Wells Fargo performs ongoing reviews of its account relationships in connection with the Bank’s responsibilities to manage risks in its banking operations,” the bank said in a December 22nd letter to Wexler. “We recently reviewed your account relationship and, as a result of this review, we will be closing your above-referenced accounts.” Another letter sent the following day informing Wexler that Wells Fargo was canceling his business line of credit said, “the reason(s) for this action is: Banking guidelines excludes lending to certain types of businesses. […] The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), which represents gun makers and dealers, said what happened to Wexler is part of a growing trend. “Wells Fargo’s decision to abruptly cancel all business ties with Wex Gunworks is the most recent example of “woke” banking discrimination against the firearm industry,” Mark Oliva, an NSSF spokesman, told The Reload. The nation’s largest banks have been actively cutting ties with gun makers and dealers for years in an attempt to force the industry to stop selling firearms, such as the popular AR-15, that executives disapprove of Americans owning.

hile the GOP and conservative media have largely moved on from Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake and the systemic failures that occurred in Maricopa County on Nov. 8, court testimony and eyewitness reports from the Lake trial include allegations that Arizona’s largest county violated state law by failing to implement chain-of-custody documentation for Election Day ballots, resulting in a mysterious 25,000 extra votes added to Maricopa County’s official tally within a 24-hour period — more than the margin of victory between Lake and gubernatorial victor Katie Hobbs. […] According to Runbeck employee Denise Marie, prior to Nov. 8, drop box ballots were “delivered in red bins with a chain of custody form” from the Maricopa County Tabulation and Election Center (MCTEC), which listed how many ballots were delivered. But on election night, “instead of receiving the ballots in red bins, the ballots from the drop boxes had been placed in mail trays and loaded onto mail cages. […] According to Lake attorney Kurt Olsen, this is in direct violation of Arizona state statute, . . . […] As Olsen remarked in his closing argument for the Lake trail, “If you don’t have a count from MCTEC when those ballots are being transported to Runbeck, how do you know whether that count is secure?” Nor do there appear to be chain-of-custody documents, a violation of Arizona law, showing how Maricopa County was able to add more than 25,000 ballots to its final tally. That addition is more than Hobbs’ margin of victory, which was about 17,000 votes.

The Federal Trade Commission is floating a nationwide ban on non-compete agreements, which currently are regulated by the states. “If finalized,” the Wall Street Journal reports, “it would outlaw terms in 30 million contracts and pre-empt laws in virtually every state. It would also, by the FTC’s own account, reduce capital investment, worker training and possibly job growth, while increasing the wage gap.” Another proposed regulation is being mooted for the medical profession. No doubt inspired by the alleged misuse of drugs for treating Covid, this new rule is a poison-pill smuggled in the recent $1.7 trillion omnibus bill. This change will curtail the freedom of physicians to prescribe prescription drugs for off-label use, which comprises 20% of prescriptions. According to the Journal, “This unwarranted intrusion into the physician-patient relationship threatens to undermine medical innovation and patient care,” as well as inhibiting the discovery of new therapies. Viagra, for example, was originally produced to treat hypertension and angina, and now is prescribed for erectile dysfunction treatment nearly two million times a year. Such incessant regulatory tweaks help explain why we have over 220 volumes of federal regulations.

Nobel: Positive Feedback Loops With Negative Consequences – Part 1

Editors’ Note: Debate over the budget and deficit spending has been a staple of American political debate since they became chronic with Lyndon Johnson and the Great Society. Too bad it has in recent years just become background noise for both political parties because the stakes for America are very high.

[…] All dynamic systems have feedback loops, either negative or positive loops. For example, the sun heats the earth. Heat and humidity form clouds and push them higher with updrafts, which create rain and partially block sunlight, cooling the earth and providing moisture for another cycle. This is a negative feedback loop and is a mechanism in nature for the regulation or maintenance of a specific state of nature.In comparison, many feedback loops in nature are self-reinforcing and are referred to as positive which tend to a definitive endpoint, such as the death of a living entity. We have a number of these operating in the economy right now related to Federal intervention in the economy. Not only have many become self re-inforcing, but they also intersect with other feedback loops creating even bigger positive feedback loops with serious negative consequences. In the case of US government finance, we now have some feedback loops that are increasingly dangerous and out of control. This disequilibrium could also spread to foreign governments and the private sector as well. Let’s take a look at some that are obvious and some not so obvious.

Editors Note: Janet Yellen, US Secretary of the Treasury said late last week that the US would be out of money by January 19th, and would begin to take extraordinary measures to keep the government afloat until June. The problem is the previous Congress has already approved massive spending but has to go back to the new Congress once again to approve an increase in the debt ceiling. That approval simply gives the US government the authority to borrow more money from new investors so that it can pay the old investors.

[…] Remember as well as we saw with the speakership battle, in a closely divided Congress, a relatively small group of dedicated Congressmen can extract meaningful concessions. This is absolutely necessary for the good of the country. However, the political battle has the potential to rattle markets. In 2011, it caused some market spasms and lead one rating service to downgrade the creditworthiness of the US. At the end of the day, if we cannot get control of spending, we are all headed for a fiscal crisis anyway. In 2011, it did little to stop wild spending. We have to do a lot better this time despite the risk to the markets. There is one other cycle of importance, that operates somewhat independently of these other trends. That is demographics. Demographics for much of the past 20 years was a force restraining inflation, but now is shifting towards aggravating inflation.

There’s an old story about a guy who jumped into a thorn bush: He wanted to collect berries, but he failed to consider the adverse effects of the plan. Something similar happened with face masks during the COVID-19 pandemic: Masks were promoted, and often mandated, as necessary safeguards for reducing the chance of infection, while their possible adverse effects were brushed aside. While the science on the benefits of masking is still inconclusive, the latest research now shows that the prolonged use of face masks—especially those with tighter fits like the N95s—could harm wearers by exposing them to dangerously high levels of carbon dioxide. The risks appear to be especially pronounced for young people. As part of a team of scientists, one of the authors of this article conducted a randomized study of the effects of masking on healthy school aged children in Germany. The results of this research, published in September 2022 in the peer reviewed journal Environmental Research, concluded that wearing masks raised the carbon dioxide (CO₂) “content in inhaled air quickly to a very high level in healthy children in a seated resting position that might be hazardous to children’s health.” […] There are additional risks associated with face masks that should be considered, such as psychological effects and infections from pathogens accumulated in the mask tissue, but we believe that the increased concentrations of CO₂ breathed by mask-wearers is a clear and demonstrated adverse effect that should be known and considered when deciding policies. In short, face masks are not harmless.

[…] Society is in many ways like the human body. Its various organs perform their functions to support the whole, all interdependent for survival. Corruption of one organ will, if left unchecked, corrupt the whole body. Most societal organs have rules that keep them in line with society’s needs. When external influences poison or degrade them and these rules are broken, the organ grows to the detriment of the whole. If society is healthy, it may be able to reform or replace the offending organ. If it is not, or if the corruption has infiltrated too deeply, society will become increasingly sick as its lifeblood is sucked away, and in time it may die. A cancer on society The international public health sector comprises the World Health Organization (WHO), a growing bevy of other international health agencies and numerous non-governmental organizations and foundations.

Co-Conspirators Hours before the Zulocks were arrested on July 27, Lawless was apprehended earlier in the day by Walton County detectives on a warrant for felony sexual exploitation of children after downloading child pornography of the older Zulock boy, per an affidavit. Authorities were tipped off that Lawless uploaded and stored child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on his Google account through an “emergency CyberTip” sent to the nationwide Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force network and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children child protective organization, the affidavit says, noting that “numerous” other CyberTips were generated with the same Gmail address. One of these photographs, which contained metadata indicating it was created with an iPhone on Dec. 9, 2021, showed a prepubescent child being forced to perform oral sodomy on an adult male, per the affidavit. The victim’s age was “ascertained based on physical size/stature size relative to the male’s penis…and facial features.”

The Post Millennial: WATCH: Dallas legislators attend ‘all-ages’ Drag Show while armed Antifa stand guard outside

An “all-ages” drag show at BuzzBrews in Dallas, Texas on Saturday drew parents, kids, and local city councilmembers who came out to endorse the show and the practice of family drag shows. Councilman Jesse Moreno, Paul Ridley, and State Rep Venton Jones, were all on hand to give speeches while the drag queens accepted tips from their admirers. Taylor Hansen was on the scene for the Texas Family Project to document the event, the protests, and the lawmakers endorsement. Antifa stood guard outside to protect the show from protestors who object to the sexual content being shown to children. Vermont drag queen proponents prove him correct: Drag Queen Story Hour (DQSH) is just what it sounds like — drag queens reading stories to children in libraries, schools, and bookstores. DQSH captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models. In spaces like this, kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where people can present as they wish, where dress up is real.

These bizarre displays create “space” to groom children in gender pedagogy, feigning education as drag performers feign faux genders.
