NOTABLE QUOTES

Thomas Jefferson Founding Father and the third President of the United States: When the people are afraid of the government, that’s tyranny. But when the government is afraid of the people, that’s liberty.

Eddie Zipperer tweeted: 1980s Moms: You should be thankful you have freedom. People in Russia and China don’t have that. 2021 Moms: You should be thankful you have freedom. People in Michigan and California don’t have that.

Helen Raleigh contributor to The Federalist: In a totalitarian regime, children’s books are not meant to bring joy or inspiration. Their sole purpose is to instill the correct political ideology in the young mind.

Conrad Black contributor to American Greatness: If H.R. 1 is enacted the question of whether and to what extent the United States remains a government of laws and a genuine republic will not be possible to answer affirmatively with any confidence.

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) tweeted: You’re going to hear Democrats talk a lot about “common sense” gun control this week. I think following the Constitution is pretty sensible myself.

Sen. Tom Cotton (R- Ark.) in an Ingraham Angle interview: Joe Biden’s administration is seeking out those illegal aliens that Donald Trump turned away and inviting them to come back to the border, enter — like, we’ve gone far beyond catch and release. This is recruit and release. They’re specifically recruiting illegal aliens who we already turned away once to come back so they can be let go into the country.

Patricia McCarthy contributor to American Thinker: . . .apparently so anxious to become the First Lady by any means necessary, Mrs. Biden continued to push her failing husband’s campaign forward as if he were mentally qualified. Of course all those around him knew as well that he was in the throes of dementia; it was impossible to miss the signs.

Westen: The two main reasons conservatives are losing
John Droz, Jr. is an independent physicist and has been an environmental activist for over 30 years. He has been an outspoken critic of wind energy, climate “science,” and is the founder of the Alliance for Wise Energy Decisions. Droz joined me on this special episode of The John-Henry Westen Show to discuss the irregularities he and his team found in election results, as well as the two big things that are holding back conservatives. […] Droz tells listeners that “the left keeps out-maneuvering the right.” He tells listeners the two reasons why this is happening: conservative groups don’t work together and conservatives don’t understand public relations and proper messaging.

CHINA: AMERICA’S MORTAL ENEMY

Chang: RED ALERT: China Is Winning the Great 21st Century Tech War
China believes it is on track to take over the world. At the ongoing “Two Sessions” in Beijing, the Communist Party has publicly told us how it will accomplish its ambitious goal. If the Chinese ruling party succeeds, the rest of the 21st century will be painted only in shades of red. Fortunately, America is beginning to mobilize itself. Americans, however, need to act, immediately. Tech is the real arms race of our era. On March 5, at the annual meeting of the National People’s Congress, China’s rubber-stamp legislature, Premier Li Keqiang announced the 14th Five-Year Plan, which begins this year.
China, pursuant to the plan, will increase spending 7% per year to achieve “major breakthroughs” in areas of “frontier technology.” Specifically, the country, will devote resources to artificial intelligence; quantum information; semiconductors; brain science; genomics and biotech; clinical medicine and health; and deep space, deep sea, and deep earth. Moreover, Beijing is also talking about the Sci-Tech Innovation 2030 Agenda and the Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035. Officials are silent when it comes to Xi Jinping’s now-notorious Made in China 2025 initiative — the plan is on its face a violation of the country’s trade obligations — but there is no question that the effort remains underway nonetheless.

McKay: China Is at War With the World, And It’s Escalating
Until a few days ago, and until now for those not up on the latest developments in the tech world, hafnium was a word describing a barely known element on the periodic table included in the manufacture of control rods for nuclear power plants. But thanks to our never-resting pals across the Pacific Ocean, hafnium now means something else. There is a group of computer hackers based in China, and reportedly employed by that country’s communist government, which calls itself Hafnium — an indication that for all their technical prowess the Chinese are still far behind the West when it comes to creativity in describing their villainous ways. The Chinese Hafnium hackers scored a massive coup against Microsoft late last month and into this month by infiltrating hundreds of thousands of Microsoft Exchange servers across the globe. That let the hackers download and read a whole lot of email; one can only imagine the amount of industrial and other espionage that resulted. And it isn’t over: . . .

Winters: Chinese Communist Party Violating Every Act Of Genocide Convention New Legal Report Finds
A new non-governmental legal report finds the Chinese Communist Party guilty of violating every article of the United Nations’ genocide convention. Published by the Newlines Institute for Strategy and Policy in cooperation with the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights, the report is the “first independent expert application of the 1948 Genocide Convention to the ongoing treatment of the Uyghurs in China.” “For this purpose, dozens of experts in international law, genocide studies, Chinese ethnic policies, and the region were invited to examine pro-bono all available evidence that could be collected and verified from public Chinese State communications, leaked Chinese State communications, eyewitness testimony, and open-source research methods such as public satellite-image analysis, analysis of information circulating on the Chinese internet, and any other available source,” a summary of the report’s methodology notes.

Anonymous: Hong Kong’s Swift Descent Into Chinese Oppression Should Alarm Us All
Once one of the world’s most free and open places, Hong Kong is becoming an authoritarian state. Its decline should terrify the West. Hong Kong’s descent started in 1997 when the Chinese Communist Party took over the city from the British government. Since then, for more than two decades, Hongkongers have witnessed the CCP’s gradual erosion of their freedoms. The pandemic presented the CCP a perfect opportunity to accelerate its control of the city and its 7.5 million residents. Last summer, Beijing imposed a draconian National Security Law on Hong Kong, bypassing Hong Kong’s local legislature. Dennis Kwok, a pro-democracy legislator in Hong Kong, said Beijing’s action “basically means the end of ‘One Country, Two Systems.’” Hong Kongers and the rest of the world didn’t even know what the law entailed until the Hong Kong government posted it on its website on midnight of June 30, 2020, as the law went into effect. The NSL criminalizes any act of “secession, subversion, terrorism, and collusion with a foreign country or external elements,” with a maximum penalty of life in prison. The definition of each supposed “crime” and even what constitutes “national security” is so vaguely defined, however, a mere tweet supporting Hong Kong’s pro-democracy movement could land one in jail. To enforce the NSL, Beijing . . . […] This February, Hong Kong authorities announced mandatory “patriotic” education starting in kindergarten that will teach kids in elementary schools to obey the NSL. According to The Wall Street Journal, Hong Kong authorities are rewriting textbooks so Hong Kong youth as young as six years old will learn “there is no room for debate or compromise” regarding national security, and teachers should “cultivate students’s sense of responsibility to safeguard national security.”

BIDEN/HARRIS/OBAMA REGIME: FOREIGN POLICY

Babbin: Biden Buddies Up to Iran and Afghanistan
When Chinese President Xi Jinping isn’t eating President Biden’s lunch, other notable bad guys drop by metaphorically to grab a bite or two. This week, some actually had to wait their turn at the table. Iran and the Taliban each took a turn — and a big bite out of Biden’s foreign policy. On February 1, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that Iran could be only weeks away from having enough nuclear fuel to create an atomic bomb if it continued to violate the 2015 nuclear weapons agreement (the “Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action,” or JCPOA) that former president Obama signed with it. Germany, France, the UK, China, and Russia also signed the agreement. Since then Iran has, of course, . . . […] Iran understands Biden’s lack of seriousness. Biden has demonstrated that from the beginning of his election campaign by condemning President Trump’s 2018 revocation of JCPOA, one of Trump’s best decisions. Biden is willing to ignore Iran’s actions, including its violations of that agreement, in order to reverse Trump’s action.

BIDEN/HARRIS/OBAMA REGIME: TRANSFORMING AMERICA

Buchanan: The Emerging Existential Crisis at the Border
During a Democratic debate in 2020, the candidates were asked if their health care plans would cover “undocumented immigrants.” Each raised his or her hand, including front-runner Joe Biden. From that stage, the message went forth: If the Democrats win this election, then it is amnesty for all and open borders in America. The message was reinforced by repeated Democratic praise for sanctuary cities, by calls to “abolish ICE” and end deportations, by pledges to stop work on Donald Trump’s wall, if not to tear it down. Message sent to Mexico, Central America and the Third World: If the Democrats win and you make it across the border into the United States, under President Joe Biden, you will not be sent back. […] What would blanket amnesty and a renewed invasion portend? […] One wonders: Is this how the Republic ends?

DEMOCRAT PLAYBOOK: IDENTITY POLITICS

Lifson: The pernicious labeling of products on supermarket shelves by the ethnicity of the owners of the company that made them
Now that race and ethnic (or sexual) identities are being emphasized by media, the academy, and the entertainment industry as the most important possible thing to know about a person – a suicidal practice in in a diverse democracy – the inevitable corollary is appearing. Products are being offered to the public based on the racial, ethic, or even sexual identity group of the owners of the company that produced them. This is visible, for example, on the shelves of Giant supermarkets in the Washington, DC area. The owners of the chain, Giant Food of Maryland, LLC, a $5.6 billion a year subsidiary of European retailing colossus Ahold Delhaize, seem pretty proud of themselves. The trade publication Supermarket News featured the program late last year: . . . […] It doesn’t seem to bother anyone at the company or the trade publication that this is an invitation to boycott products that don’t come from the preferred groups. We’ve seen this sort of thinking before – in Nazi Germany. […] So, if you are a heterosexual white male, and own a company that makes products sold in supermarkets, this practice identified you the same way that the Jude sign in Nazi Germany identified stores to boycott.

(August 2020) Stepman: ‘Plot to Change America’ Driven by Identity Politics
America always has been a dynamic country of constant change, with its people looking ahead. But an elite-driven ethos, which has become the dominant ideology of the country’s most powerful institutions, threatens to overwhelm the ideas and traits that made America what it is. In his new book “The Plot to Change America: How Identity Politics is Dividing the Land of the Free” my colleague, Mike Gonzalez, explains how reason, objectivity, and traditional patriotism are being undermined by left-wing ideology and ascendant group identity. […] The glue and fuel of this radical change, as Gonzalez explains in his new book, is identity politics. Identity politics is now everywhere. It’s embraced by Antifa and Black Lives Matter, as well as by corporate America, the media, and, of course, academia. Gonzalez breaks down how the left adopted a radical form of identity politics, which is fulfilling its goal of radically transforming American society. Importantly, he explains that this was not a grassroots movement, but one precipitated by an elite intellectual vanguard. He writes: . . . This intellectual project has roots in Marxism, but more specifically, in a series of thinkers in the early and mid-20th century.

OBAMA/BIDEN LEGACY: THE DEMOCRAT PARTY’S FASCIST ANTIFA & BLM ARMIES

Moorhead: BLM/ANTIFA Shut Down Minneapolis in Derek Chauvin Trial Jury Intimidation
This is jury intimidation. BLM/ANTIFA protestors closed several city blocks in downtown Minneapolis on Monday, establishing a presence as trial proceedings for former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin began. The protest occurred as legal authorities began jury selection in the trial of Chauvin, with potential jurors likely confronted with the protestors as they arrived at the Hennepin County Government Center. Jury selection was ultimately postponed for a day, with a judge waiting for the state court of appeals to determine if Chauvin should face charges of third-degree murder as opposed to second. It’s expected that Chauvin’s legal defense team will point to evidence suggesting that Floyd died as the result of a fentanyl overdose, as opposed to Chauvin’s chokehold . . .

THE DEMOCRAT PARTY’S WAR ON AMERICA’S CHILDREN

Paslay: Exposing Corwin’s Socialist Math Textbook Series
Corwin Press, a professional development book publisher, is no longer interested in producing academic material designed to teach children how to think, rather, has set its sights on teaching students what to think. The company, which was established in 1990, has taken a hard left turn over the past five years, so much so that the publisher has abandoned any pretense of objectivity and has openly embedded its political agenda into much of its material. In January, Corwin posted so-called “free resources to help educators process the Jan. 6th riot at the Capitol,” which provided links to agenda-driven activist groups like Black Lives Matter, whose aim was to indoctrinate school children in polarizing identity politics. Now Corwin is promoting a new series of math textbooks aimed at indoctrinating high school students in radical leftist politics, textbooks that replace objective, linear math with socialist propaganda. A book titled High School Mathematics Lessons to Explore, Understand, and Respond to Social Injustice, is one such example. The introduction to the book, titled . . . […] The tragedy, of course, is that these children won’t learn how to think critically about any of this — not if they are using material from Corwin Press. Why? Because Corwin is more interested in teaching children what to think, not how to think.

Raleigh: Stopping The Next Cultural Revolution Starts With Your Home Library
It broke my heart to hear about Dr. Seuss Enterprises’ decision to stop printing some of his classic children’s books at the behest of outraged leftists. It was even more horrifying to witness so many people in power, from President Joe Biden to the executives at eBay, willingly comply with a small mob’s demands. Maybe it is easy to obliterate something valuable when you have never lived without it before. […] I grew up in China. At the time, adults had nothing else to read other than books written by Mao Zedong. A collection of Mao’s books was a typical wedding gift for the newlyweds. Naturally, there weren’t many choices for children’s books either. The few children’s books I read had no adorable characters, nor did any convey a sense of humor or wit. There wasn’t much color in the books either. Most of the drawings were black and white, just like our colorless, dull life under socialism. One story I still remember was “The Rooster Crows at Midnight.” It was about . . . […] That’s the story I remember from my childhood. I had many nightmares after reading it. The Chinese Communist Party even turned this story into a movie. The CCP wanted people to believe owning private property and having more wealth than other people is evil.
