Anton: Socialism and the Great Reset

It has become increasingly common to hear those on what we may call the conventional Right claim that the main threat facing the historic American nation and the American way of life is “socialism.” These warnings have grown with the rise of the so-called “Great Reset,” ostensibly a broad effort to reduce inequality, cool the planet (i.e., “address climate change”), and cure various social ills, all by decreasing alleged “overconsumption.” In other words, its mission is to persuade people, at least in the developed West, to accept lower standards of living in order to create a more just and “equitable” world. Since the conservative mind, not unreasonably, associates lower standards of living with “socialism,” many conservatives naturally intuit that the Great Reset must somehow be “socialist.” I believe this fear is at least partly misplaced and that the warnings it gives rise to, however well-meaning, are counterproductive because they deflect attention from the truer, greater threat: specifically, the cabal of bankers, techies, corporate executives, politicians, senior bureaucrats, academics, and pundits who coalesce around the World Economic Forum and seek to change, reduce, restrict, and homogenize the Western way of life—but only for ordinary people. Their own way of life, along with the wealth and power that define it, they seek to entrench, augment, deepen, and extend.

She explains that they initially wouldn’t even let her see the warrant, but then did; they were reluctant to let them have it. It’s not clear from what she says if they ultimately were able to obtain it at some point. She also explained that the probable cause for the warrant was sealed, so that they can’t even know what it was unless they go to court to find out. […] On top of what the attorneys said, as I noted in my Trump family reaction story, the FBI also wanted the Mar-a-Lago security cameras shut off while they were conducting their raid. Why? The only thing one can think is that they didn’t want the camera to catch something that they were doing.

A source close to the former president expressed concern that FBI agents or DOJ lawyers conducting the search could have “planted stuff” because they would not allow Trump’s attorneys inside the 128-room building to observe the operation, which lasted more than nine hours. […] A legal source said that the boxes had been packed up by the General Services Administration and shipped to Mar-a-Lago when Trump left office in January 2020. Trump’s attorneys, led by Evan Corcoran, had been cooperating fully with federal authorities on the return of the documents to the National Archives and Records Administration, according to sources. […] The demeanor of the three DOJ lawyers who accompanied the FBI was described by one eyewitness as “arrogant,” and they repeatedly told Trump representatives: “We have full access to everything. Greenfield: The Mar-a-Lago Raid is a Preview of a Rigged 2024 Election

The Mar-a-Lago raid is a more aggressive version of the same Russiagate tactics which were aimed at busting and flipping Trump associates, while gathering any materials that can be spun off into related or entirely unrelated investigations. The FBI raid will not result in charges against Trump, but will probably be used to hit staffers and aides with security violations. This has the dual purpose of keeping them from serving in any future administration and putting them through the wringer, running up massive legal bills and getting them to testify against Trump. And it’s only happening because the Democrats expect to run against Trump in 2024. There’s no coincidence that Trump investigations have once again ramped up, after quieting down, as the former president began sending signals that he intends to run again. If Trump had announced that he was formally retiring, there would be no FBI agents at Mar-a-Lago. Instead they would be headed to the homes of any of the potential conservative frontrunners who would suddenly be facing subpoenas, entrapment and wiretapping run out of D.C.

That November, the Miami Herald reported that he had represented several of Epstein’s employees — including, by Reinhart’s own admission to the outlet, Epstein’s pilots; his scheduler, Sarah Kellen; and Nadia Marcinkova, who Epstein once reportedly described as his “Yugoslavian sex slave.” Kellen and Marcinkova were among Epstein’s lieutenants who were granted immunity as part of a controversial 2007 deal with federal prosecutors that allowed the pervert to plead guilty to state charges rather than federal crimes. Epstein wound up serving just 13 months in county jail and was granted work release.

Elkind: DC appeals court rules Congress CAN access Trump’s tax returns in another legal blow to the embattled ex-President

A federal court ruled in a 3-0 decision on Tuesday that House Democrats are legally allowed to seek Donald Trump‘s tax returns. ‘The DC Court of Appeals has just ruled that the law is on our side in seeking Trump’s tax returns,’ the House Ways and Means Committee official Twitter account posted.

‘We expect to receive the requested tax returns and audit files immediately.’ It’s a major blow to Trump’s years-long fight in the courts to keep his tax returns from any kind of probe. The three judges on the court were appointed by Presidents Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush and Barack Obama.

Late last year, Trump-appointed District Judge Trevor McFadden ruled that the Treasury Department can turn the former president’s financial documents to House investigators. Trump has claimed that his tax returns were being sought for political purposes and violated the separation of powers as described by the US Constitution.

The video then claims it is rude for people to assume an individual’s gender, even when it is obvious. A Defense Department (DoD) whistleblower has revealed that 324 of the Afghans whom U.S. forces brought to the United States as the disaster in Afghanistan was unfolding appeared on the department’s Biometrically Enabled Watchlist (BEWL), which includes terrorists, and yet were admitted into the country without being vetted. No one who has been watching the spreading dumpster fire that is the Biden administration could possibly be surprised. […] The whistleblower also charges that “Department of Homeland Security (DHS) staff were authorized to delete old biometric data at their discretion.” Really, what could possibly go wrong? Hawley and Johnson point out, with admirable understatement, that this is a “troubling development that could threaten national security and public safety.” Yeah, it could. And as it was all initially unfolding, Joe Biden was doing what he does best: lying. […] In reality, however, there appeared to be a concerted effort to bring unvetted Afghans into the United States. At least 82,000 Afghans were brought to the U.S. without being vetted. In October 2021, Senate Republicans noted in a memo, accordingto the Washington Examiner, “senior officials across the departments of Homeland Security, Defense, State, and Justice described a disastrous screening and vetting process.” Immigration officials accepted uncritically what Afghans said about who they were, without making any effort to check their stories. According to the Examiner, “the large majority of people, approximately 75%, evacuated were not American citizens, green card holders, Afghan Special Immigrant Visa holders, or applicants for the visa.”

York: 86,852 new IRS employees

The problem is what the problem always is: The big money is in the big middle class. Workers who make more than $400,000 — that includes people right at that number up to super-billionaires — are only about 1.8% of all taxpayers, even though they account for about 25% of the nation’s income. The other 98.2%, making up about 75% of the nation’s income, is a lot bigger. And indeed, that’s where much of current IRS enforcement is focused. The same will likely be true of the new, muscled-up IRS. “The main targets will by necessity be the middle and upper-middle class because that’s where the money is,” the Wall Street Journal editorial board wrote recently. “The Joint Committee on Taxation, Congress’s official tax scorekeeper, says that from 78% to 90% of the money raised from under-reported income would likely come from those making less than $200,000 a year. Only 4% to 9% would come from those making more than $500,000.” In any event, there will be a lot of increased enforcement. About $45 billion of the $80 billion for the IRS will go to investigating taxpayers. That means that not every one of the IRS’s 86,852 new employees will be auditors and examiners, but a lot of that manpower will in fact go to audits and increased scrutiny of taxpayers. Many of the targeted taxpayers will have to hire accountants to represent them in dealings with the IRS.

House members will be able to vote by proxy until the end of September, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) announced today, citing the COVID-19 pandemic even as cases, hospitalizations, and deaths continue to trend downward. Proxy voting, which means that one member of the House can cast a vote on behalf on an absent member, started in May 2020, and Pelosi has extended it multiple times, citing “the public health emergency due to the novel coronavirus.” The proxy-voting period would have ended Aug. 12 had Pelosi not extended it to Sept. 26. […] “Although the Constitution allows Congress to write its own rules, those rules cannot violate the Constitution itself, including the requirement to actually assemble in person,” McCarthy said.

This attempt to stop the sex identification of skeletal remains, dating hundreds or even thousands of years old, probably sounds like a slightly absurd academic squabble – of concern only to archaeologists and anthropologists. But it has far-reaching implications.

A Leflore County grand jury considered evidence and testimony regarding Carolyn Bryant Donham’s involvement in the kidnapping and death of Till, Leflore County District Attorney Dewayne Richardson said in a news release.
