Cohen: What Is Flag Day?
When the American Revolution broke out in 1775, the colonists weren’t fighting united under a single flag. Instead, most regiments participating in the war for independence against the British fought under their own flags. In June of 1775, the Second Continental Congress met in Philadelphia to create the Continental Army—a unified colonial fighting force—with the hopes of a more organized battle against its colonial oppressors. This led to the creation of what was, essentially, the first “American” flag, the Continental Colors. For some, this flag, which was comprised of 13 red and white alternating stripes and a Union Jack in the corner, was too similar to that of the British. George Washington soon realized that flying a flag that was even remotely close to the British flag was not a great confidence-builder for the revolutionary effort, so he turned his efforts towards creating a new symbol of freedom for the soon-to-be fledgling nation. The Review: All Americans should commemorate Flag Day
Tuesday is Flag Day. Flag Day deserves the respect of each and every one of us. Especially during the always ongoing turbulent social times. After all, we are all Americans first and foremost. Some seem to forget that. […] Ten of thousands of American have fought for and sacrificed — some with their very lives — to preserve the American way of freedom and democracy. Our flag represents fairness to all of its citizens. It represents opportunities for all of its citizens. Ask someone in a communist or suppressed third world country if they would embrace a flag day that represents the kind of personal liberties and choices that we have. Including the right to peaceful demonstrations. And, sadly, liberties taken for granted so often it seems by so many Americans. If you are in a need of a strong dose of humility, just go visit a local cemetery where hundreds of flags have been placed since Memorial Day on the graves of veterans.

Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser on Monday ordered 51-star American flags to be displayed along Pennsylvania Avenue ahead of Flag Day, June 14. The mayor said she directed her team to hang the 51-star flags “as a reminder to Congress and the nation that the 700,000 tax-paying American citizens living in Washington, D.C., demand to be recognized. […] In April, House Democratic lawmakers passed the “DC Admission Act,” which would make Washington, D.C. the 51st state and grant its residents full representation in Congress. Republican lawmakers have argued that because Washington, D.C.’s establishment is based in Article 1, section 8, clause 17 of the Constitution, any change to the district must come in the form of a constitutional amendment – not legislation from Congress. They’ve also argued that the idea of D.C. statehood amounts to little more than a power grab by Democrats to expand the majority in the Senate by adding two more senators from a liberal enclave.

Baldwin: Trump Needs to Alter His Message on COVID
At every Donald Trump event, we hear the president repeat the same message about his success with “Operation Warp Speed” and how he persuaded the pharmaceutical companies to develop the COVID vaccinations in record time while also implying that everyone should be vaccinated. As a long-time MAGA activist, I sense a great deal of dissatisfaction among the grassroots regarding Trump’s pro-vaccine position. The polls seem to bear this out. Nevertheless, he either seems to shrug this off or is completely unaware of how unpopular his pro-vaccine position is. Trump’s continued praise of the vaccination program may very well cause him to lose supporters and may even open him up to attack by his opponents. As he prepares to run for the presidency in 2024, Trump would do well to drop his pro-vaccine rhetoric and embrace an entirely different COVID agenda that reflects what we have learned over the last two years about both the pandemic and the vaccines. Such an agenda needs to acknowledge . . . […] Here are some ways Trump can stay on top of the issue: . . . […] Assuming Donald Trump runs for the presidency once again—and he’s giving every indication he will—this is the kind of COVID agenda the America First Movement will expect of him. Sundance: Senate Comes to Agreement on New Gun Restrictions, UniParty Republicans Support New Measures
Democrats and Republicans in the Senate have announced their agreement for new laws which will restrict gun ownership. The measures include a new federal firearm registry (known colloquially as “enhanced background checks”), and new laws for the federal government to define the standard of mental health that will allow gun ownership (known colloquially as “red flag laws”). If approved, the structure looks somewhat similar to current discussion. Continued or new firearm ownership will be permitted if the cross functional DHS/FBI social media and cognitive stability panel (the moderators inside Govt, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google, Microsoft) approve the mental outlook of the firearm applicant. The NSA database containing all privacy information on individuals will likely be accessed by a much larger audience of stakeholders (teachers, employers, social workers, bureaucrats) who will conduct ongoing stability reviews for firearm owners and flag any concerning content.

In a statement on Sunday, Murphy said the framework is a great step “in restoring sanity to our national dialogue” on firearms and “while this agreement is only a narrow first step, it is recognition that the ability of the gun lobby to block any and all common sense gun safety laws by its mere presence is waning and reform is possible. . . .why are not politicians of either stripe talking about a problem that is apparent almost daily in the news and during a visit to any large American city, namely wanton shootings and murder, and the scourge of homelessness? Proposed solutions include Band-aids of banning scary-looking weapons or creating homeless camps to sweep the problem under the rug, but these so-called solutions ignore the root causes of these societal blights. The elephant in the room is mental health care in America, a problem which makes people uncomfortable and which they would rather not talk about. How bad is it? According to Johns Hopkins University: “An estimated 26% of Americans ages 18 and older — about 1 in 4 adults — suffers from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year.” Going further, “Many people suffer from more than one mental disorder at a given time. In particular, depressive illnesses tend to co-occur with substance abuse and anxiety disorders.” They also note that, “9.5% of American adults ages 18 and over, will suffer from a depressive illness (major depression, bipolar disorder, or dysthymia) each year.” And that, “Approximately 1% of Americans are affected by schizophrenia.”

Tucker: The Origin and Operation of the US Administrative State
In July 2, 1881, only four months into the first term of President James A. Garfield, an angry attorney from Illinois named Charles J. Guiteau shot Garfield in the head at a Baltimore, Maryland, train station. Guiteau had a motive. He was furious because he believed, due to his work for the campaign, that Garfield would give him a job in the new administration. But none was forthcoming. Garfield died of the wounds months later. It was a shocking thing. Congress immediately got to work figuring out how to prevent the next assassination. They had the theory that they needed to end the system of patronage in government so that way people wouldn’t get mad and shoot the president. Not a very good theory but this is how politics works. The result was the Pendleton Act that created a permanent civil service. The new president, Chester Arthur signed the bill in 1883. It was done: the administrative state was born.
What Congress did not understand at the time was that they had fundamentally altered the American system of government. The Constitution nowhere provides for a permanent class of administrative overlords to whom Congress could outsource its authority. It nowhere said that there would exist a machine technically under the Executive branch that the president could not control.The Pendleton Act created a new layer of statist imposition that was no longer subject to democratic control. In a lawsuit filed June 2, Drs. Robert L. Apter, Mary Talley Bowden and Paul E. Marik argued the FDA acted outside of its authority by directing the public, including health professionals and patients, to not use ivermectin — even though the drug is fully approved by the FDA for human use. Three physicians are suing the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for launching what they allege is a “crusade” against ivermectin as a treatment for COVID-19 that “unlawfully interfered” with the doctors’ ability to practice medicine. In a lawsuit filed June 2, Drs. Robert L. Apter, Mary Talley Bowden and Paul E. Morefield: The Latest Mask Research Is Bad News For Branch Covidians
If masks or mask mandates worked, wouldn’t we see hard evidence of it by now, you know, more than two years in? If there were such evidence, wouldn’t the powers-that-be be shouting it from the rooftops? Instead, they’ve been pretty quiet because of charts like this, which used the CDC’s own data to compare Covid spread in counties that had mask mandates against counties that did not. The result? No discernible difference. Thankfully, the tide is turning. Key research and data gathering is being conducted and released that continue to put a stake in the heart of forced masking. Here’s a sampling of the latest: A University of Louisville study . . . […] And finally, emerging evidence of what many of us suspected all along, the possibility that masks could actually be actively harming people. February 2022 saw the release of a medical journal report comparing Covid-19 fatality rates across Kansas counties during the height of the pandemic in 2020. Titled, “The Foegen Effect: A Mechanism by Which Facemasks Contribute to the COVID-19 Case Fatality Rate,” the observational study – published February 2022 in Medicine by German doctor Zacharias Fögen – analyzed “whether mandatory mask use influenced the case fatality rate in Kansas.” The paper’s stated most important finding: “… contrary to the accepted thought that fewer people are dying because infection rates are reduced by masks, this was not the case … Results from this study strongly suggest that mask mandates actually caused about 1.5 times the number of deaths or ~50% more deaths compared to no mask mandates.” The study theorized that the so-called “Foegen effect,” whereby hypercondensed droplets caught by masks are re-inhaled and introduced deeper into the respiratory tract, could be responsible for the increased Covid mortality rate. Public health initiatives in the United States are suffering from a crisis of trust. Recent polls show that only a third of the public trusts insurance and pharmaceutical companies, while just 56 percent trust the government health agencies that are meant to regulate these industries. Another survey during the COVID-19 pandemic showed that only around half of Americans have a “great deal” of trust in the CDC, while a mere third have such trust in the Department of Health and Human Services. This lack of trust is not merely temporary. Yes, our health agencies and companies have made mistakes and propagated falsehoods in the past two years. But their deep unpopularity is not merely the result of circumstance. Without alternatives, these institutions will always lack accountability, and therefore, trust. America is nothing without our unique history of popular sovereignty. We can no longer give public officials unilateral decision-making power over our public health response without competing voices, checks and balances. […] Americans had watched public health experts lie, misdirect, ignore evidence and yield to professional pressure since the beginning of the pandemic. Few wanted to be their guinea pigs. […] In the Fall of 2020, a group of like-minded scientists, policymakers, health care workers and other public figures signed the Great Barrington Declaration, which pointed out the flawed reasoning and perverse incentives of the public health industrial complex and its response to COVID-19. Because of the vice grip that bureaucrats like Fauci held over the industry’s research funding and reputation control, these courageous men and women risked—and in some cases, wrecked—their careers by doing so. A senior software engineer at Google who signed up to test Google’s artificial intelligence tool called LaMDA (Language Model for Dialog Applications), has claimed that the AI robot is in fact sentient and has thoughts and feelings. During a series of conversations with LaMDA, 41-year-old Blake Lemoine presented the computer with various of scenarios through which analyses could be made. They included religious themes and whether the artificial intelligence could be goaded into using discriminatory or hateful speech. Lemoine came away with the perception that LaMDA was indeed sentient and was endowed with sensations and thoughts all of its own. […] Lemoine spent most of his seven years at Google working on proactive search, including personalization algorithms and AI. During that time, he also helped develop an impartiality algorithm to remove biases from machine learning systems. He explained how certain personalities were out of bounds. LaMDA was not supposed to be allowed to create the personality of a murderer. During testing, in an attempted to push LaMDA’s boundaries, Lemoine said he was only able to generate the personality of an actor who played a murderer on TV.

Television networks that broadcast the Jan. 6 Committee’s first summer hearing in prime time Thursday night failed to attract more viewers than on a typical weeknight. “The world is watching what we do here,” Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., said in his opening statement. “America has long been expected to be a shining city on a hill, a beacon of hope and freedom, a model for others when we are at our best.” Thompson’s viewership, however, missed the mark. According to preliminary ratings figures from Nielsen published by The New York Times, more than 19 million tuned in for what was anticipated to be a blockbuster event. While 19 million may seem high at first glance, a look at what cable and broadcast networks typically pull for an average evening reveals Thursday’s viewership as little to brag about, especially when all but one, Fox News, aired the livestream.

Judicial Watch announced that it received productions of new records totaling 102 pages from the Department of Justice (DOJ) related to the shooting of January 6 protestor Ashli Babbitt that include a memo recommending “that the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia decline for criminal prosecution the fatal shooting of Ashli McEntee [Babbitt],” also noting that the shooter, U.S. Capitol Police Lt. Michael Byrd, “did not create a police report or documents” related to the shooting of Babbitt. The documents also reveal that in the press release announcing the decision not to prosecute Byrd for the killing of Babbitt, the DOJ replaced the words “group” and “crowd” with the word “mob” several times. […] The records contain the prosecution declination memorandum justifying the decision not to prosecute Byrd for the shooting death of Babbitt (nee McEntee) on January 6. Mittlestadt: COVID vaccines appear to cause abnormally long blood clots, says pathologist
Unusually long blood clots are being found in people who received COVID-19 vaccines, according to Dr. Ryan Cole of Cole Diagnostics in Boise, Idaho. Cole’s laboratory receives tissue samples from morticians across the country. He reports that they are finding long blood clots — including several that are inches-long and even a couple that are a foot long — in corpses that contained the COVID vaccine. Liberty Counsel, a religious freedom legal advocacy nonprofit currently representing military members seeking vaccine mandate exemptions, recently interviewed Cole. His lab “is able to determine the difference between a spike protein caused by the virus and a spike protein caused by the COVID shots, which are demonstrably different and much more pronounced and serious,” according to the organization. […] Cole’s lab is “seeing mushy organs, we’re seeing incredibly inflamed organs,” he said. “We know the spike protein cause all the … bad outcomes that the virus did in 2020. Last May, Biden attempted to personally reach out to Kim Jong-un. These rejections made Kim Jong-un appear like the man in charge while Biden appeared like the weaker individual, failing in his attempt at appeasement. Much like with all their crises, the Biden administration downplayed the missile testing by North Korea, claiming that they “have seen periods of provocation; we’ve seen periods of engagement.” During his tenure, President Trump had met with North Korean chairman Kim Jong-un on two occasions. Trump had adopted a clever mix of carrot (in the form of building a personal rapport and promises to help North Korea to prosper if they chose the right path) and stick (in the form of sanctions and tough talk), which seemed to work. A cancer trial has reportedly become the first in the world to completely remove the disease in every patient, according to a study published on June 5 in The New England Journal of Medicine. The study, “PD-1 Blockade in Mismatch Repair—Deficient, Locally Advanced Rectal Cancer,” was conducted among 12 rectal cancer patients, all of whom had a “clinical complete response,” according to the authors, led by Dr. Andrea Cercek of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Doctors have been unable to see any evidence of tumors among the patients when using magnetic resonance imaging, fludeoxyglucose F 18 injections, physical examinations, or endoscopic evaluations, according to researchers. The patients also continued to show no signs of cancer during follow-ups ranging from six months to 25 months and haven’t had to undergo surgery or receive radiation and chemotherapy. “No adverse events of grade 3 or higher have been reported,” the study authors noted.

The Shelter Hope Pet Shop in Thousand Oaks added a question for their potential pet adopters that they must answer if they want a pet from the shelter. The question reads, “Where do you stand on gun control?” The Hill reported in a piece published Thursday. The owner of the shop, Kim Sill, shared that the shop doesn’t “support” those who believe the Second Amendment means the “right to buy assault weapons.” “We believe that if we can make our voices heard on how we feel, we can make an impact,” the Shelter Hope Pet Shop owner wrote on the website. “We do not support those who believe that the 2nd amendment gives them the right to buy assault weapons. If your beliefs are not in line with ours, we will not adopt a pet to you.”

The American Legislative Exchange Council released the latest edition of its report on pensions in all 50 states Thursday. The report, “Unaccountable and Unaffordable 2021,” shows just a handful of states with outsize pension liabilities account for a large share of overall pension debt in the U.S. The report looked at 290 state-administered government pension plans and their assets and liabilities from fiscal year 2012 to fiscal year 2020. An example of state-administered government pension plans in Illinois would cover state employees, teachers, university workers, judges and lawmakers. The states with the most unfunded liabilities were California ($1.53 trillion), Illinois ($533.72 billion), Texas ($529.70 billion), New York ($508.70 billion) and Ohio ($429.53 billion). These five states alone account for more than $3.5 trillion in unfunded liabilities, or about 43% of all unfunded liabilities in the U.S.
