Constitutionalists, free-speech lovers, and sane people alike cheered upon hearing the announcements that the Department of Homeland Security was disbanding its nascent Disinformation Governance Board and the board’s designated head, Nina Jankowicz, was resigning. The reasons why are obvious: The federal government has no business determining what is truth, it is nowhere near the mission of Homeland Security, and Jankowicz had a consistently wrong record of identifying “disinformation.” But Americans should take no comfort in the fact that the Biden administration’s efforts to censor information from within DHS and elsewhere will end. In fact, the administration has announced that former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and former U.S. Deputy Attorney General Jamie Gorelick will take the baton from Jankowicz and continue down the disinformation track. This plan is no better than the first one.

Harsanyi: Don’t Surrender To Do-Somethingism On Guns
Before we even knew how the killer of 19 children and two adults at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, had obtained his guns, Chris Murphy was engaging in his customary performative emotionalism on the Senate floor, literally begging Republicans to “compromise.” Compromise on what exactly? Murphy has never once offered a single proposal that would have deterred any of these mass shooters. Literally minutes after his routine, Murphy was asked about the obvious mental illness prevalent among most of these shooters. “Spare me the bullsh-t about mental illness,” the Connecticut senator responded, “ripping” the GOP. “We don’t have any more mental illness than any other country in the world.” That’s how serious he is about compromise. Whether America is more prone to mental illness or not, these incidents are almost exclusively perpetrated by young men who have exhibited serious anti-social behavior. All of them break a slew of existing laws. All of them have either obtained guns illegally, or legally before having any criminal record. In many, if not most, cases, the shooter is already on the cops’ radar because he has threatened others or written insane, violent manifestos. In a study of mass shootings from 2008 to 2017, the Secret Service found that “100 percent of perpetrators showed concerning behaviors, and in 77 percent of shootings, at least one person – most often a peer – knew about their plan.”

Ford: Is the COVID Pandemic about to Get Ugly?
For a pandemic to be brought under control, a sufficient part of the population needs to acquire sterilizing immunity so that transmission among individuals can be minimized and herd immunity of the whole population can be achieved. COVID mass vaccinations have been a medical disaster in the U.S. and many other countries because the vaccines allow high levels of transmission of the virus and block our innate and naturally acquired immunity. As a result of this high level of COVID infection spread, the current lull in virulence (severe outcomes and deaths) will soon skyrocket to levels far higher than 2020.
This warning that the pandemic is “far from over” comes from Geert Vanden Bossche, a well known vaccinologist based in Belgium who has been ringing alarm bells for over a year. Geert is not alone in coming to this conclusion, but he is one of the few prominent researchers speaking out. Many research papers came to this conclusion more than a year ago. Geert refers to one such paper, “Risk of rapid evolutionary escape from vaccines targeting Sars-CoV-2 spike protein”: […] His thesis is that a mass vaccination that allows the virus to escape places pressure on the virus to become more transmissible, following natural selection of the fittest. Since many in the population are in the same situation, meaning they are vaxxed and the vax is putting immune pressure on the virus in similar ways, the fittest mutant virus (fittest in transmission) ultimately becomes the dominant variant in the population. But it is the second phase of viral mutation that most concerns Geert. Now that it has become highly transmissible, the virus is working on the next step of the viral attack: virulence. Geert predicts that the combination of a non-sterilizing vaccine and the mutating virus will lead to both high infectiousness and a much higher level of severe disease and death.

But those motives miss the fact that Putin rules by allowing oligarchs to enrich themselves and — by extension — himself. And like any criminal, he is going where the money is and there is much money buried in the ground of Ukraine. While it has historically been considered a rich agricultural region, it is now considered extremely valuable. Putin understands that Ukraine is also very rich in the precious metal lithium.

Let’s talk about what can be done!” But Sinema isn’t having any of it.

A new LGBTQ charter school in Alabama is attracting straight black kids whose families see it as a way for their kids to escape Birmingham’s beleaguered regular public schools, The Daily Wire has learned. Magic City Acceptance Academy, a grade 6-12 public school designed to cater to LGBTQ students, boasts of providing a “brave learning environment and LGBTQ affirming culture for all.” But with Alabama’s traditional public schools ranking among the worst in the country, straight students are flocking to the school in the Birmingham suburb of Homewood. “Some kids are not gay but they go there to get out of the inner city schools,” a source inside the school who spoke on condition of anonymity told The Daily Wire.

The vote makes Indiana the most recent state to pass legislation protecting female athletes. Holocomb, a Republican who is serving his second term, vetoed the bill in March, arguing that it would be challenged in court and questioning whether it solved any pressing matters, Just the News reports.
The bill “implies that the goals of consistency and fairness in competitive female sports are not currently being met,” the governor said at the time. “After thorough review, I find no evidence to support either claim even if I support the overall goal.” The Alliance Defending Freedom celebrated the Legislature on Tuesday for overriding the veto.

Twitter’s settlement covers allegations that it misrepresented the “security and privacy” of user data between May 2013 and September 2019, according to the court documents. The company will pay $150 million as part of the settlement announced by the Justice Department and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). In addition to the monetary settlement, the agreement requires Twitter to improve its compliance practices. The complaint said that the misrepresentations violated the FTC Act and a 2011 settlement with the agency.

The movie, releasing nationwide in the U.S. on May 27, comes 36 years after the original and stars a few from the original cast, including Tom Cruise, who won the coveted Palme d’Or at Cannes. The original focused on U.S. Naval Aviator Lt. Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (Cruise) and Lt. Tom “Iceman” Kazansky (Val Kilmer), one of Top Gun’s students and Maverick’s rival-turned-wingman. But many things have happened since 1986. In a sad twist, Kilmer, now 62, can no longer speak as his voice was lost after a tracheotomy in 2014 following a throat cancer diagnosis. Then again, it is the 21st century and the filmmakers wanted to make sure to include Kilmer, so they found a high-tech way to work around the fact that he can’t speak. “A British artificial intelligence (AI) company has recreated the actor’s voice – with amazingly realistic results,” the Daily Mail reported. “London-based firm Sonantic used his voice recordings from throughout his career, which were fed to their AI to create the lifelike yet artificial mock-up.”

Once again, a large governmental body has exposed itself as morally bankrupt if not wholly bereft of legitimacy. On May 18, 2022, the European Parliament, one of the European Union’s legislative bodies, rejected a proposal to discuss the elephant in the room: the rampant persecution of Christians around the world. The proposal came in response to the May 12 stoning and burning to death of Deborah Samuel Jacob (Yakuba), a Christian student in Nigeria murdered by Muslims for thanking Jesus for her performance on a test, and, therefore, precipitating an allegation that she had somehow “blasphemed” against Muhammad. Her murderers also made a video, laughing at and mocking her burning corpse. Using that tragic incident as a catalyst, Jean-Paul Garraud, a French Member of the European Parliament (MEP), proposed a debate on the persecution of Christians and Christianophobia.
