But the government not only attempted to manufacture “terrorists” in the Whitmer kidnapping hoax—the same FBI operation also tried to coax a man in Virginia to participate in the same sort of plot against Virginia Governor Ralph Northam. That scheme didn’t fully materialize, but the FBI’s attempt to pull off a similar stunt in Virginia reveals just how far agents were willing to go to bolster FBI Director Christopher Wray’s false warning that domestic extremists planned to “kill and assassinate” public officials. […] Just as in the Whitmer plot, Chappel lured Frank Butler into attempting to build an explosive device. Another text exchange in September 2020 shows Chappel and Chambers discussing a . . .[…] Northam, like Whitmer, made the most of the imaginary threat against him. Also like Whitmer, Northam . . .[…] So, now that the kidnapping plots have been exposed as an elaborate case of FBI entrapment, the public deserves to know how the governors were “briefed” on the sting operation.

Billingsley: FBI Goes Back to the Future

The intrepid Julie Kelly wants an investigation of the aptly named “FBI-concocted Whitmer operation.” That operation and the ongoing proceedings over January 6 resulted from long FBI experience as a political strike force. Consider, for example, a bureau operation in California back in 1988.

“California Capitol shaken by FBI sting,” headlined a UPI story on September 4, 1988. “More than 30 federal agents carrying search warrants conducted an unprecedented raid on the Capitol offices of four leading lawmakers, seeking evidence of wrongdoing until the wee hours of the morning.” As it emerged in the report, the FBI had manufactured the evidence. […] On the night of the raid, the FBI searched the offices of Moore, California State Senator Joseph Montoya, Republican Assemblyman Frank Hill, and Nolan, who likely was the primary target. According to Capitol Weekly, the outcry from Assembly staffer Richard Steffen was, “The FBI’s here. They’re raiding Pat Nolan’s office.” Nolan had been critical of Brown, whose office, UPI clarified, was “not among those searched by the FBI.”

The RNC took far too long in doing this. They should have voted to withdraw after the CNN Candy Crowley/Mitt Romney 2012 debate debacle. Margolis: Is New York Shifting Red?

Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-N.Y.), who’s running for governor of New York, predicted on Wednesday that Democrats will lose their supermajority in the state legislature during the midterm elections. “I believe that New York, in many respects, is hitting a breaking point — people are fleeing every single day,” Zeldin told Just the News, Not Noise cohosts John Solomon and Amanda Head. “They feel like their wallet, their safety, their freedom, their kids’ education are under attack.” Is it really possible? Is the Democratic Party starting to lose its grip on the Empire State? I don’t want to count my chickens before they hatch, but Zeldin could be right. Last month, an internal poll conducted by John McLaughlin & Associates found Zeldin leading Hochul 45.5% to 44%, with the rest undecided. Zeldin’s lead was within the margin of error, suggesting that the race is a dead heat.

The allegations were based on a photograph by Paul Ratje that whipped the left into their natural frenzy. […] There’s good news: the DHS has cleared the agents of any wrongdoing.

Santucci: FDA grants emergency authorization for first COVID-19 breathalyzer test

The FDA granted an emergency use authorization to a test produced by InspectIR Systems that collects a breath sample and analyzes for chemical compounds associated with the coronavirus, the first of its kind to be authorized for use. In a study of 2,409 people, the test correctly identified a positive COVID infection in 91.2% of cases and correctly identified negative samples 99.3% of the time, the FDA said in a release. A similar result was seen in a follow-up study focused on the contagious omicron variant of the coronavirus. According to InspectIR, the test is performed by exhaling into a tube in a similar manner to blowing up a balloon and produces results within three minutes.

We recently discussed the gathering of Democratic politicians and media figures at the University of Chicago to discuss how to better shape news, combat “disinformation,” and reeducate those with conservative views. The political and media elite shared ideas on how to expand censorship and control what people read or viewed in the news. The same figures are now alarmed that Elon Musk could gain greater influence over Twitter and, perish the thought, restore free speech protections to the site. The latest is former labor secretary under President Clinton, Robert Reich, who wrote a perfectly Orwellian column in the Guardian titled “Elon Musk’s vision for the internet is dangerous nonsense.” However, the column offers an insight into the anti-free speech mentality that has taken hold of the Democratic party and the mainstream media. Musk is an advocate for free speech on the Internet. Like some of us, he is an Internet originalist. That makes him an existential threat for those who have long used “disinformation” as an excuse to silence dissenting views in the media and on social media.

The White House this week slammed the Alabama law, with press secretary Jen Psaki saying during a press conference that hormone therapy for minors is “lifesaving health care.” Steve Marshall, the Republican attorney general of Alabama, said his state is prepared to stand up to liberal groups’ legal challenges and White House opposition, which he called “predictable and of very little interest to Alabamians.” “It is undoubtedly difficult for the Biden administration, including the Department of Justice, to accept that Alabama is a sovereign state,” Marshall told the Washington Free Beacon. “We’re prepared to act like it.”

[…] There is limited research about the physical and mental effects of transgender treatment for children. Broader studies on transgender adults show alarming rates of suicide post-transition. A 30-year study in Sweden found that people who transitioned are 20 times more likely to commit suicide after 10 years. The Obama administration in 2016 said there was insufficient evidence to support transgender procedures for Medicare recipients.

With the Russian economy suffering as a result of the economic sanctions imposed in retaliation for President Vladimir Putin’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, Moscow is increasing the pressure on Tehran to provide it with economic support. In particular, the Kremlin is pressing Tehran to pay a number of outstanding debts relating to its nuclear programme.

(Unequal Justice) Kliegman: Redefining terrorism? Tardy labeling of violent black nationalist revives charges of politicization

The arrest of a man for shooting 10 people on a New York City subway train this week has shined a spotlight on what experts call the arbitrary way in which authorities use the label of terrorism when investigating attacks across the country. Frank James, 62, was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon about 30 hours after a bloody shooting on a Brooklyn subway car during rush hour that left five victims in critical condition. Federal prosecutors charged James with a terrorism-related offense for firing 33 rounds on a Manhattan-bound train Tuesday morning. Beyond the 10 people who suffered gunshot wounds, another 19 were treated for other injuries. […] The charge came after New York City officials said Tuesday they were not investigating the shooting as an act of terrorism, although the city’s police department (NYPD) didn’t rule out the possibility. Former NYPD Commissioner Bernard Kerik told Just the News he agreed with the terrorism charge but was “irritated” at law enforcement’s apparent reluctance to consider the incident a terrorist attack. “This is a classic example of domestic terrorism,” he said. “That classification comes right out of the FBI’s definition.” […] “Wait a minute — you had people who protested at the U.S. Capitol who were locked up, basically called domestic terrorists,” said Kerik, . . . […] Black nationalists aren’t the only ones whom authorities have been reluctant to identify as terrorists. In 2009, for example, U.S. Army Maj. Nidal Hasan opened fire at Fort Hood in Texas and injured dozens of people. Despite many experts calling the shooting a terrorist attack, the Obama administration, including the FBI, described it as “workplace violence.” Hasan had been in contact with the late Al-Qaeda ideologue Anwar al Awlaki.

President Joe Biden was more involved in Hunter Biden’s financial and business dealings than previously acknowledged, allowing his son to pay some of his bills, diverting one of his tax refunds to his son, rubbing elbows with the first son’s foreign clients and even directly referring a friend who wanted to “do some work” with his son, according to email and text messages reviewed by Just the News. Jeff Cooper “asked for you,” Joe Biden texted his son, sending along the phone number of a well-to-do trial lawyer and longtime Joe Biden donor. “Wants to do some work with you. Love Dad.” The summer 2018 message is one of the clearest pieces of evidence gathered by FBI and congressional investigators that Joe Biden was not simply a passive bystander in his son’s globe-trotting business pursuits, but rather at times assisting and benefiting financially, the messages show.

Turley: Hunter Biden Likely to be Charged Under FARA . . . If the Justice Department Applies the Mueller Standard

As US Attorney David Weiss leads a long line of witnesses before a grand jury, Washington is preparing for the possibility of an indictment of the son of President Joe Biden, Hunter. This has led to a nosebleed of a turn for the media, as major outlets suddenly acknowledge that the story that they tried to kill in 2020 is in fact legitimate. Many legal experts have insisted that any prosecution for tax violations would be uncommon or unwarranted because Hunter Biden belatedly paid taxes after the start of the investigation. However, not only are tax and international transactional violations still possible, there is a looming threat of charges under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA). This week, I testified in the House Judiciary Committee on enhancements of FARA and was asked whether Hunter Biden could be charged under the act. The answer is clearly yes. Indeed, if the Justice Department applies the standard used in the Paul Manafort case, it would seem like such a charge is not just possible, but even probable.
