The Missouri Republican pressed Garland in a letter Wednesday after Durham included new ‘spying’ charges in the ‘Factual Information’ section of a court filing in a related case. The explosive filing signaled a new turn in Durham’s probe of the origins of the Russia probe, prompting Republicans to accuse Clinton of ‘spying’ on Donald Trump. The pressure came on a day when Republican Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) wrote Garland to make sure he ‘will continue to respect the prosecutorial independence’ of Durham, after an explosive filing set off a political firestorm. Sullivan, who served as a foreign policy advisor to Hillary Clinton during her 2016 campaign, has been identified as the ‘foreign policy advisor’ mentioned in the criminal indictment of former Clinton lawyer Michael Sussmann for lying to the FBI. Sullivan is married to Margaret Goodlander, a former Navy intelligence officer and lawyer who serves as counsel to Garland, and has not been identified as a subject of Durham’s probe or accused of wrongdoing.

The Center Square Staff: Lawsuit claims Michigan election chief illegally accepted Zuckerberg money to swing 2020 election
The Chicago-based Thomas More Society filed the lawsuit in the Michigan Court of Claims, alleging Benson violated election law by spending private election funding on partisan purposes that denied Michigan voters’ constitutional equal access voting rights. The Center Square previously reported Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan contributed $400 million nationwide into the 2020 election through their Chicago-based nonprofit, the Center for Technology and Civic Life (CTCL). The 166-page filing claims that nearly half of CTCL’s funds flowed to Democrat-dominated areas where Biden won. For example, the lawsuit says CTCL made 19 payments exceeding $100,000 all to jurisdictions that Biden carried in 2020.

DeGregory: Judge denies emergency order for NYC hospital to give ivermectin to COVID patient
A Manhattan judge says she won’t force a hospital to give an ailing post-COVID-19 patient the controversial drug ivermectin after the man’s wife sued for the non-FDA-approved treatment, according to a new ruling. Erika Quintero-Sherry brought a civil case against Mount Sinai Hospital on Jan. 26 seeking an emergency order to have the drug given to husband Benjamin Chernyavsky — who’s been “on death’s doorstep” after contracting the virus last month. Following two days of hearings in the case last week, including testimony from two Mount Sinai doctors, Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Lynn Kotler said she wouldn’t grant the emergency request to force the hospital’s staff to administer the risky drug based on Quintero-Sherry’s “paltry” evidence and going against Chernyavsky’s treating doctor’s recommendations, as well as the recommendations from the medical community at large.

wo vastly important geopolitical developments have dominated the international spectrum in recent months – the escalating crisis in Ukraine, and the ever-increasing diplomatic and economic synergy between Xi Jinping’s China and Vladimir Putin’s Russia. Any approach to the former must heavily consider the subsequent ramifications upon the latter. The heretofore informal Sino-Russian alliance – recently coined by the Wall Street Journal as the “New Axis of Autocracy” – experienced substantial scaling via the highly publicized joint statement between Xi and Putin on the eve of the Winter Olympics in Beijing. The 5,000-word pronouncement covers significant ground, referencing deepening economic ties, jointly developed security orientations, and a commitment to national sovereignty at home and abroad. While the two countries do not yet enjoy a formal alliance, that is an eventuality that should concern anyone who values freedom and democracy, anywhere in the world. Now situated opposite the United States as a clear rival hegemon – a la the Soviet Union in decades past – the Chinese Communist Party has steadily increased its power and reach by folding new allies into China’s totalitarian embrace. Adding Russia to its repertoire would be the feather in China’s cap, resulting in a substantially more formidable Iron Curtain than the Soviet Union ever achieved; this time extending from Moscow to Beijing.
