But the event in question is not an exercise in nostalgia. It’s a fundraiser for Rep. Liz Cheney’s re-election campaign. Although the people listed as sponsors may be political has-beens or are now utterly marginal to the Republican Party, their money is still green and Cheney needs every cent she can raise from her family’s old friends.

Murdock: State Representative Excoriates Planned Parenthood For Targeting Black Communities
In honor of Black History Month, State Representative and congressional candidate Walt Blackman (R-Snowflake) introduced a proclamation, HR2001, to assert that abortion was the leading cause of death for African Americans and that unborn African-American children have equal rights under the Constitution. Blackman asked for a moment of silence to honor the approximately 1,300 unborn African-American children whose lives would be lost to abortion that day, based on statistical rates of abortion. “[Abortion is] something that’s not spoken about in our communities. It’s something that needs to be heard. It’s something that I’m very aggressively trying to fix in black communities, and it is a tragedy that this happens every single day in the black communities,” said Blackman.

Bonchie: It Sure Seems Like the January 6th Committee Was Colluding With Jeff Zucker
During his stint, Zucker essentially ran CNN into the crowd, with a viewership drop of 80% residing on his record. Still, the hand-wringing at his departure was extensive. Examples began to surface of CNN hosts and staffers expressing outrage. How could they possibly replace someone who had failed so spectacularly? That angst starts to make more sense, though, when you think of things in terms of preferred narratives. It wasn’t that Zucker was doing a good job by the numbers. The network was and is collapsing, after all. Rather, it was that he was protecting the right people, within the network and outside the network. And when it comes to the latter group, it sure seems like the January 6th Committee was colluding with Zucker. What’s my evidence for such speculation? How about members of the committee asserting that Zucker’s departure represents a threat to “democracy?” […]  The treatment of Zucker as a martyr really only makes sense when you assume he was running protection for the committee and the hosts on-air that pushed its narratives. With him gone, there seems to be a fear that coverage priorities could change. I just don’t think that’s all a coincidence.

Some say they’ve talked to family members who were arrested after trying to visit a loved one or to speak with a doctor after communications with the hospital were cut off. Attorneys told The Epoch Times about a wide variety of instances of what they call abuse, including hospitals preventing visits from family, failing to provide nutrition and fluids, and coercing patients to agree to treatments they’d already refused multiple times—such as being placed on a ventilator. Gainesville, Florida, attorney Jeff Childers has been so alarmed by the cases he’s seen, he posted a tutorial online with tips on how to navigate the legalities surrounding hospitalization with COVID-19. Childers warns that he’s not a doctor and that he’s not offering medical advice. When his office gets calls from concerned family members, the patient in question is already on a ventilator and the family is desperately concerned about treatment. […]  Childers was one of the attorneys who took on Mayo Clinic Florida in court hoping to help the family of Daniel Pisano try medications they believed would help him. Mayo Clinic attorneys fought back vigorously. […]  “I call it medical kidnapping,” Childers said. “This isn’t over by a long shot,” he added, alluding to a continuation of the fight with Mayo Clinic. Mayo Clinic Florida has not responded to repeated requests for comment on the case and hospital attorneys asked judges on multiple occasions to seal documents that would reveal their arguments.

Tucker Carlson: Mask mandates are a debate about power, not about science
Yesterday, the judge in that case, Louise diMatteo, made a highly revealing statement: “I’m not going to decide who’s right and who’s wrong on masking,” she said. “This is really about the hierarchy of authority.” Well, exactly. That really is what it’s about. After more than two years of COVID restrictions, there’s not a huge amount of scientific debate over masks on children. Masks don’t appear to work. They don’t appear to protect children. We do know they hurt children profoundly. So at this point, the only debate left, as the judge pointed out, is not to debate over science. It’s a debate about power. And here are the parameters: Who’s in charge of your children? Is it you, the parent, or is it the teachers’ unions? Who runs your country? Is it you, the voters, or is it unelected bureaucrats? Are they really in charge? So, to be clear, this isn’t really about masks. Those are the questions we’re debating at this point.

Stieber: FDA Document on Moderna Vaccine Approval Removed From Agency’s Website
A Food and Drug Administration (FDA) document explaining why the agency approved Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine was removed from the agency’s website overnight. The Summary Basis for Regulatory Action gave more details on how regulators reached the approval decision, and included references to an unpublished analysis that found the rates of post-vaccination heart inflammation were higher than any U.S. agency had found before. After The Epoch Times reviewed the document and sent questions about it to FDA spokespersons, it disappeared from the agency’s website. “We are aware of the issue and hope to have the document reposted as soon as possible,” a spokesperson told The Epoch Times in an email on Thursday. Berenson: Vaccine demand has cratered
The number of Americans willing to submit to mRNA doses continues to plunge. Even with children 5 and over now eligible, the total number of doses administered in the United States every day is well under 1 million. That figure is barely above the July 2021 lows, before the Biden administration tried and failed to force its big-company vaccine mandate through. Even the current trend significantly overstates what demand may be going forward, because boosters are propping it up. The number of new vaccinations is close to zero. More third shot “boosters” are administered now than either first or second doses.
But demand for boosters is also plunging. That trend is also unlikely to reverse. The 20-30 percent of Americans who remain terrified of Covid have already received their boosters.

Delahunty: 7 Questions Republicans Need To Be Asking About Joe Biden’s Response To Russia
Before the Biden administration imposes sanctions on Russia, Republicans in Congress and the media should ask some hard-headed questions. In his many years as president, vice president, and chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, every single U.S. foreign policy blunder has had Joe Biden’s fingerprints all over it. Last year’s debacle in Afghanistan showed Biden true to form. And the same team of advisors who oversaw the Afghan fiasco—Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Gen. Mark Milley among them—are issuing dire warnings about Russia. Are you feeling reassured?
There is indeed a strong case that U.S. sanctions could cause severe economic hardship to Russia. But sound strategic thinking includes at least three components: a well-defined objective; the close adaptation of means to that end; and a careful consideration of the unintended but harmful side-effects that may follow. Here are some questions to review whether these criteria are being met in the Biden administration’s policies. First, what is the objective of the sanctions? Most likely, the purpose of sanctions would be to deter Russia from invading Ukraine or to roll back a Russian invasion if one occurred. But the stakes are extremely high for Russia and for Vladimir Putin: to be seen to yield to U.S. pressure would be a severe blow to the régime’s prestige and might cause Putin to fall. Russia has long premediated an invasion or some lesser (to use Biden’s word) “incursion,” and has prepared for a U.S. blowback. And so far, Putin has not flinched. In 2020, Seventeen included the “WAP” dance on its roundup of the app’s most popular trends, meaning millions of American kids were watching and making video after video of a song about “wet ass p-ssy.” It’s of course true that American culture is decaying on its own. But it doesn’t help that a company based in and legally under the control of China is in charge of a place our kids spend hours a day, talking about politics, family life, and culture. It would be like Moscow owning our film studios during the Cold War, except worse because TikTok is omnipresent in every teen’s pocket.

Gentile: Seven Americans to play against USA on China’s hockey team
Eighteen of the 25 players representing China on its men’s ice hockey team at the Beijing Olympics were born or raised in North America, and many have no Chinese ancestry or connection to the country. Seven of the players are American, 11 are Canadian, and one is Russian, according to a report.
One of those Americans is 30-year-old defenseman Jake Chelios, the son of American hockey legend and three-time Stanley Cup champion Chris Chelios. In 2002, the younger Chelios watched his father represent the United States at the 2002 Winter Olympics, and now he is set to face off against his father’s team and his home nation on Feb. 10.

The notion that human nature is basically good is also rejected in the rest of the Bible—and just as strongly in the New Testament as in the Old.  Which brings me to my main point.  Over the last six decades, belief in human goodness has become an article of faith for many Christians as well as for Jews. This is particularly true of many mainstream Protestants and Roman Catholics.  For the Catholic Church, the belief has served as a wrecking ball. Numerous polls have shown a massive decline in church attendance among Catholics (and other Christians), and a corresponding drop in the number who identify as Christians. Different people give different reasons for the decline of Christian belief, but for me the obvious reason is that Christians have replaced the idea of human sinfulness with the idea of human goodness.  And when you do that, you undercut the whole rationale for Christianity—namely, that we are sinners in need of redemption.  If human beings are good the way they are, then there is no need for a Savior to free us from our sins.

The KFF COVID-19 Vaccine Monitor is an ongoing research project tracking the public’s attitudes and experiences with COVID-19 vaccinations. Using a combination of surveys and qualitative research, this project tracks the dynamic nature of public opinion as vaccine development and distribution unfold, including vaccine confidence and acceptance, information needs, trusted messengers and messages, as well as the public’s experiences with vaccination. In the midst of the latest surge of the omicron COVID-19 variant, the share of parents who say their child has gotten at least one shot of a COVID-19 vaccine increased between November and January. Six in ten parents of 12-17 year-olds now say their child has received at least one shot (61%, up from 49% in November), as do one-third of parents of 5-11 year-olds (33%, up from 16% in November). Three in ten parents of children under 5 say they’ll get their child vaccinated right away once a vaccine is approved for their age group, up somewhat from one in five in July.

On Friday, Denver will end many of its vaccine and mask mandates, at least for adults. Predictably, children will remain forced to mask in schools, because, well, Denver rejects basic science. People will no longer be required to wear masks or show proof of vaccination to enter businesses in Denver by the city. Berrien: ‘Her Rankings … Have Bounced From #462 As A Male To #1 As A Female’: 16 Lia Thomas Teammates Sign Letter Asking Penn Not To Sue NCAA, Bar Thomas From Competing
On Thursday, 16 members of the Penn Women’s Swimming Team sent a letter to the University of Pennsylvania and the Ivy League asking them to refrain from suing the NCAA over its new Athlete Inclusion Policies that would bar Lia Thomas, formerly known as Will Thomas, from participating in the NCAA championships in March. They stated, “We have been told that if we spoke out against her inclusion into women’s competitions, that we would be removed from the team or that we would never get a job offer.” “The group, organized by three-time Olympic gold medalist Nancy Hogshead-Makar, sent the letter early Thursday morning asking UPenn and the Ivy League to support us as biological women’ and not engage the NCAA in legal action in an effort to challenge the new protocols,” Swim Swam reported, adding, “Hogshead-Makar says that the swimmers wrote the letter themselves, though both Hogshead-Makar, an organized group of parents, and other athletes, made edits before arriving at the final draft.” In the letter, the swimmers note, “Biologically, Lia holds an unfair advantage over competition in the women’s category, as evidenced by her rankings that have bounced from #462 as a male to #1 as a female.
