Cuellar is one of the few Democratic congressmen who has been vocal about the crisis at the border and the lack of action by the Biden administration. Federal authorities raided the house of U.S. Representative Henry Cuellar in Laredo, Texas, on Wednesday. Details of the raid remain unknown. “The FBI was present in the vicinity of Windridge Drive and Estate Drive in Laredo conducting court-authorized law enforcement activity,” the FBI revealed in a prepared statement. “The FBI cannot provide further comment on an ongoing investigation.” [ NOTE: Will Sinema and Manchin be next?}

Justice: Only 10 Percent Of J6 Committee Subpoenas Relate To The Capitol Riot
he House Select Committee established to probe the Capitol riot is not interested in probing the Capitol riot. According to a Federalist analysis of the 84 subpoenas publicly issued by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s Select Committee on Jan. 6, only 8 have targeted individuals or groups with any connection to the Capitol riot. The rest have taken aim at former government officials and private citizens in a smear campaign for exercising their constitutional right to protest. The 84 subpoenas do not include the more than 100 seeking the telephone records of individuals whose identities remain under seal, both from the public and from those whose privacy the committee seeks to violate. “Every member of this committee is dedicated to conducting a non-partisan, professional, and thorough investigation of all the relevant facts regarding January 6th,” said Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney upon accepting Pelosi’s appointment as vice chair. “We owe it to the American people to investigate everything that led up to, and transpired on January 6th.” Except the committee absent of Republican-appointments at Pelosi’s direction is far from non-partisan, and the probe’s investigation is far from focused on the security failures at the Capitol on Jan. 6.

Daley: Supreme Court Rejects Trump’s Bid To Quash Jan. 6 Committee Subpoenas
Justice Clarence Thomas was the only member to note his dissent. The Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected former President Donald Trump’s request to quash subpoenas for White House records relating to the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol. Trump attempted to invoke executive privilege to stop the House Select Committee on the January 6th Attack from accessing a trove of documents relating to Trump’s activities on Jan. 6 and those of his top confidants. The Court’s brief decision was unsigned and Justice Clarence Thomas was the only member to note his dissent. Wednesday’s decision signals a new phase for the committee’s work, which thus far has struggled to penetrate Trump’s inner circle. The papers the panel is seeking will help them reconstruct the ex-president’s activities ahead of Jan. 6, and could leverage some of his former aides into cooperating. Some, like former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, have refused the committee’s requests for depositions and documents, citing Trump’s assertions of privilege.

Daley: Legal Group Sues New York State Over Race-Based COVID Treatment
A conservative legal group aligned with former Trump administration senior adviser Stephen Miller is suing New York state’s top public health official over her directive to make minority patients automatically eligible for scarce COVID-19 therapeutics. America First Legal filed a lawsuit this week against acting New York health commissioner Mary Bassett, who in December issued a memo encouraging health care providers to treat race as a factor that increases a patient’s risk of severe COVID. New York’s guidance dictates that white patients cannot obtain COVID antivirals unless they have a medical condition that increases their risk for severe infection, such as obesity or diabetes. On the other hand, minority patients can obtain them simply by virtue of their race, regardless of other risk factors. “Non-white race or Hispanic/Latino ethnicity should be considered a risk factor, as longstanding systemic health and social inequities have contributed to an increased risk of severe illness and death from COVID-19,” the state’s guidance reads. Progressives have infused race into almost every dimension of public health policy, from economic stimulus to frontline care. President Joe Biden’s $2 trillion COVID stimulus package included reparations for minority farmers and a grant program for struggling restaurants that prioritized non-white applicants. A bill backed by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis that would prohibit Florida’s public schools and private businesses from making people feel “discomfort” or “guilt” based on their race, sex or national origin received first approval Tuesday by the state’s Senate Education Committee. The Republican-controlled committee approved the bill with six Republican senators in favor of the bill and three Democratic senators opposed to it. Although the bill, named “Individual Freedom,” does not mention Critical Race Theory, the term is used in the attached bill analysis that was given to senators. […]  The legislation would prohibit individuals from making people “feel discomfort, guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress on account of his or her race, color, sex, or national origin.” It would also prohibit employers from providing training or instruction that “espouses, promotes, advances, inculcates, or compels” individuals to believe “that an individual bears responsibility for, or should be discriminated against or receive adverse treatment because of actions committed in the past by other members of the same race, color, sex or national origin.”

I imagine the metaverse as a virtual world with some of the characteristics of a city. There will be virtual malls, where users can move from store to store and buy the products that will later be delivered to their physical homes—a big improvement in digital shopping over the flat webpage. There will be virtual beaches where we can meet our friends to chat and play, much like what Fortnite already offers today, only much better. There will be concerts and art galleries. Is there a reason to travel physically to Venice to visit the Biennale instead of jumping into the metaverse and enjoying all the art and video installations with the latest fully immersive technology? Traveling to exotic locations could happen while we sit in our own living room. It’s easy to imagine the growth of a new digital economy, where creators will be less dependent on mediators of all kinds. Barriers to entry will likely be lower, and audiences potentially much larger, than in the real world.  […] It is no coincidence that the metaverse as a practical project emerged out of the experience of the Covid-19 pandemic. It’s one thing if it’s a minor incursion and we end up having to fight about what to do and not to do. But if they actually do what they’re capable of doing with the forces amassed on the border, it is going to be a disaster for Russia if they further invade Ukraine. “Fight about what to do” with whom? The Right Scoop: CNN: Ukrainian officials SHOCKED over Biden’s comments about Russia –To say they were displeased when they heard those comments would be an understatement. One of the officials I spoke to said that he was shocked when he heard President Biden draw a distinction between an incursion and an invasion. And to suggest that if there was some kind of minor incursion into Ukrainian territory, then that would be treated differently and illicit lesser sanctions than a major invasion.

Russia‘s Baltic Fleet vessels the Korolev, Minsk and Kaliningrad were today sailing south past the UK followed by Northern Fleet warships Olenegorsky Gornyak, Pyotr Morgunov, and Georgii Pobedonosets which passed the Great Belt Bridge in Denmark on Monday. The ships, which can each carry up to 25 armoured personnel carriers, were deployed three days ago but it remains unclear if they are heading for Ukraine. The region has been on a knife-edge since the end of last year when Moscow moved as many as 100,000 troops, as well as tanks and missiles, close to the border.

Despite his press team being unaware of it, President Biden insisted he pressed Chinese President Xi Jinping to be transparent about the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic. Biden made the claim Wednesday in response to a question from The Post at just his second solo press briefing in a year — insisting the press staff, who have previously been asked the same question, weren’t aware of the key exchange because they weren’t in the room. Biden called on The Post more than an hour into the event in the White House East Room and defended his handling of XI during the November summit.
But given no one on his press team was there, Americans will just have to take his word for it.

The Biden administration is endangering U.S. athletes who plan to travel to China for the 2022 Beijing Olympics amid a new warning from the Chinese Communist Party that it will punish foreigners for making political statements, former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley told the Washington Free Beacon on Wednesday.  “No one should be the least bit surprised that China is threatening our athletes and warning them against criticizing their communist government,” Haley said. “President Biden’s diplomatic boycott means nothing to a regime that’s imprisoning activists and committing genocide without consequences. Between 2009 and 2016, a once relatively stable Greece nearly became a Third World country. So did Great Britain in its socialist days of the 1970s.  Joe Biden’s young presidency may already be leading the United States into a similar meltdown.

Senate Democrats failed twice on Wednesday night to pass their signature legislation to nationalize elections, handing President Joe Biden a stinging defeat that was delivered in part by two centrists in his own party. The second vote came late Wednesday night when the Senate refused to change the filibuster rules in a 52-48 vote. Democratic Sens. Griffith: Loudoun County schools chief of staff is OUT following scandal over district’s handling of sexual assault complaints including girl raped in a bathroom by skirt-wearing teen boy
The chief of staff for Loudoun County Public Schools in northern Virginia is no longer in that role following high-profile controversies, including sexual assault allegations against a teenager known as the ‘boy in a skirt’. Chief of Staff Mark Smith had also been the district’s Title IX Coordinator, responsible for compliance with federal law prohibiting sex-based discrimination in schools, and had faced harsh criticism over his performance. Asked about Smith’s departure, which was first reported on Wednesday by WJLA-TV, a district spokesperson simply said ‘the position is vacant’ and declined further comment.

here are apparently people out there who don’t understand that the New York Times story on the Trump-DeSantis feud is kayfabe. What is kayfabe, you ask? After more than six seasons of the Trump Show in national politics—in which we all were part of the studio audience—there is really little excuse for not knowing such a basic term of showmanship as “kayfabe,” a word taken from professional wrestling. Yet in faithfulness to my vocation as professor of the obvious in American politics, I will start by explaining it the same way my students would, by copying and pasting from Wikipedia: “the portrayal of competition, rivalries, and relationships between participants as being genuine and not staged.”  […]  Are President Trump and Florida Governor DeSantis rivals for the 2024 Republican nomination? Well, the media and the pollsters would like them to be. Trump is flying around the country doing rallies. DeSantis, meanwhile, even if he is planning to run for president this time, has no better option than a “Tallahassee strategy”: DeSantis has to concentrate on governing Florida in the face of a deadly pandemic and the even more menacing malevolence of the Biden Administration, which plays politics with lifesaving COVID-19 therapeutics.  Beyond those manifest and public facts, everything you see in the media is kayfabe.

The Biden Administrations’ failures are so numerous and egregious, as Jim Geraghty catalogues, that court-scribes like the New York Times, Washington Post, and CNN are turning on him. Even DNC heartthrob Stacey Abrams, chronic denier of election results, snubbed Biden when he came to Georgia.
The media’s new-found willingness to fulfill their self-proclaimed sacred charge to “afflict the comfortable” and “speak truth to power,” however, is driven not by a recovered fidelity to fact, evidence-based argument, and objectivity, but by Biden’s record-setting disapproval numbers, especially the declines among Latinos, independents, and young people––constituencies critical for the Democrats’ longed-for “permanent majority.”
