The justification for the ban is the proximity to the Chaco Culture National Historical Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site; as such, the proposal would see a halt to all oil and gas drilling on federal lands within 10 miles of the park. The ban would be carried out by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), which falls under the jurisdiction of the Department of the Interior (DOI).

The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit by the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) on behalf of Heritage, stating that Biden’s mandate enforced by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) “clearly encroaches on the police power of states expressly reserved by the Tenth Amendment,” Fox News reported. Heritage’s new president Kevin Roberts, who will officially fill the position Wednesday, said although a lawsuit filed by the renowned think tank is out of the ordinary, it’s become compulsory.

Simonson: Biden Admin Withholds Report on Illegal Immigrant Population
The Biden administration has yet to publicly disclose critical information on the number of illegal immigrants in the United States, a violation of congressional guidance and a departure from federal transparency standards. The Department of Homeland Security has given Congress its report on the number of foreign nationals who remain in the United States on expired visas, but the information has not been subsequently released to the public, the Washington Free Beacon has learned. Stretching back to at least the Obama administration, DHS has made the annual report on suspected visa overstays available to the public shortly after giving it to Congress. Requests for comment to various agencies within DHS on the report went unanswered. Congress has mandated that the report is released online to the public, out of concern that “the large number of annual in-country alien overstays threatens national security and the integrity of legal immigration.”

Piper: Federally funded critical race theory program removes ‘critical race theory’ from description
Five years ago, the U.S. Department of Education approved a grant application for a summer research program whose “core feature” was introducing student fellows to “critical race theory.” The feds approved a five-year extension of the original grant for the Research Institute for Scholars of Equity (RISE) this year, with one notable and unexplained omission: the term “critical race theory.” The change suggests promoters of CRT are shying away from using the term as it becomes more politically charged. This summer, the U.S. Senate approved an amendment to the budget reconciliation bill that would ban federal funding for the teaching of CRT in schools. The 2016 version says students will use “critical race theory (as well as mixed-methods research techniques) as a means of studying issues such as teacher quality, education policy, and race and social justice in education.” The 2021 version simply mentions “mixed-methods research techniques.”

We’ve seen that Joe Biden is deeply underwater in the polls and the Democrats’ possibilities as we look into the future at the 2022 midterms, then onto 2024, don’t look good with him at the front of the ticket. Kamala Harris was put in as the backup. But the problem with that is that the only person more unpopular right now than Joe Biden is Harris. He was at 36 percent approval in a recent Quinnipiac poll and when the last number was given on her earlier in the month, she was at 28 percent approval. So Harris is basically a dead weight around the neck of their election possibilities. But now they’re stuck with her. Or are they?

Back in 2018, we had occasion to note how the pronoun wars had infected Williams College, always a reliable litmus paper for academic fatuousness, and since then the practice of people “declaring” their pronouns and making up ever more extravagant alternatives for the usual vocables (he, his, she, hers, etc.) has spread far and wide. A couple years ago, the metastasis looked complete, with employees at many businesses—especially “soft” ones like publishing and anything to do with the arts, media, or education—routinely including their “preferred” pronouns in the signature block of their correspondence. The nadir came when the Biden administration added a menu of pronoun choices to the White House website and announced that government employees would be encouraged to pick their own pronouns. Earlier this autumn, the State Department issued an enthusiastic tweet about a glorious new holiday: “International Pronouns Day.”

The Center Square Staff: Attorneys general across America probing Instagram’s marketing to children
Recent reports revealed internal research showed Instagram is associated with increased mental and physical health risks in young people, including depression, eating disorders and suicide. Fifty-two attorneys general sent a letter to the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation’s Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety and Data Security in October regarding the issue. The subcommittee held a hearing that highlighted how the company allegedly manipulates its young users. “We are incensed by recent reports in the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and other media outlets, which, if accurate, detail how Facebook has designed its algorithms to attract greater youth engagement,” the letter read. “Perhaps more disturbing is the fact that Facebook is doing all of this knowing its own internal studies show the resulting harm – increased mental distress, bullying, contemplation of suicide, and other self-harm – on a significant number of children, with a particularly negative impact on young girls.”

What’s in a name? A child’s name often signifies parents’ hopes and dreams for them or connects that child to their family history. But, as parents in Wisconsin were shocked to learn, school officials planned to ignore their authority by addressing their confused 12-year-old daughter with a male name and male pronouns, and without their knowledge or consent. They and another family have sued the school district for violating their fundamental parental rights. […] The case further illustrates the dangers of schools crossing the line from education to indoctrination. […] Lawmakers are going to work on this. Florida passed a robust bill of rights, and other states have passed similar legislation to shield children from gender identity ideology in accordance with the Promise to America’s Children. U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley just introduced a bill to protect parental rights, and states are likely to introduce similar legislation.

On the University of Austin. There are a handful of institutions that have not succumbed to the various madnesses affecting the culture of higher education—Hillsdale College, Grove City, St. Thomas Aquinas, and sundry others. But we desperately need new institutions to replace the ones shattered on the shoals of political correctness. We are pleased to report, therefore, on the advent of the University of Austin, a new liberal arts college dedicated to the “fearless pursuit of truth.” That’s easy to say. Harvard’s motto, after all, is Veritas—stop sniggering—and Yale’s is Lux et veritas. Does anyone believe it any longer? Those words are empty at most colleges and universities because the institutions have bartered truth for “wokeness” and the imperatives of identity politics. So, skepticism is justified.
