Catenacci: ‘Boston Green New Deal’: Boston To Divest From Fossil Fuels, 15% Of City’s Revenue
In her first act in office, recently sworn-in Democratic Boston Mayor Michelle Wu signed an ordinance ordering the city to divest from the fossil fuel industry as well as the tobacco and private prison industries by 2025, according to the announcement. The action was unanimously approved by the Boston City Council on Nov. 17. The move calls for the city to withdraw $65 million from its portfolio immediately, the Associated Press reported. Roughly 15% of Boston’s revenue comes from fossil fuel investments.

Kids in some city schools are still eating lunch outdoors each day due to social distancing rules despite plunging temperatures and steamed parents. “It’s getting a little ridiculous at this point,” said a mom at MS 104 in Manhattan, where kids again pulled apart their string cheese in 39-degree weather Wednesday. “They’ve eaten outdoors every day this week. It’s cold.” A mom at a Park Slope elementary school said her child has also been dining al freezo for the entire year and began complaining about the conditions this week. “We’ve heard no plans to bring them inside anytime soon,” she said. “In fact, they are still asking for parents to give the school their Fresh Direct bags to create seating pads. It doesn’t sound like they’re going in.” […] Several parents also noted that teachers and administrators are not eating in the elements.

This report from inside the Dept of Justice Office of Inspector General is very interesting; not just because of the ideology and agency attached to the issue they investigated, but also because of the recent timing this year – [ie. while the Rittenhouse and Arbery cases were being conducted.] The essential summary of the OIG issue is that someone inside the DOJ Civil Rights Division; someone in charge of the secretive internal agency known as the Community Relations Service (CRS); gave access to the computer database of Main Justice to employment applicants for the CRS. [OIG Report Link] We have tracked the CRS activity for years {Example Go Deep}. The core ideology of the CRS is virtually unknown to the public. The activists who apply for employment positions inside the CRS have one ideological outlook in support of radical elements like NAACP, Black Lives Matter, ANTIFA, and other social justice causes. There is no other ideology in the agency of the CRS. Advancement of radical race-based agenda is their mission within the DOJ. That reality is well beyond dispute. […] The CRS watches, and in many ways facilitates, politicians and federal officials stirring up racial strife. The CRS supports cultural Marxism. However, when the inevitable violence surfaces, the CRS must control the backlash. Daley: Kavanaugh Could Cast the Swing Vote That Overturns Roe v. Wade
Justice Brett Kavanaugh is expected to be the swing vote when the Supreme Court takes up a challenge to Roe v. Wade later this year. A review of the justice’s opinions suggests that he is open to overturning the landmark 1973 decision. The Court will hear arguments on Dec. 1 in a case challenging Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban. A clinic in Jackson, Miss., is attacking the law on constitutional grounds, and the state has responded by asking the Court to overrule Roe altogether. Kavanaugh is the most closely watched justice in the case, Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. Pro-choice forces need support from two Republican-appointed justices to preserve Roe. The Court’s most conservative members—Justices Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, and Neil Gorsuch—make unlikely prospects, having criticized Roe to varying degrees. Justice Amy Coney Barrett is less certain, but she was associated with pro-life causes as a law professor and has questioned Roe‘s precedential weight in her scholarly writing. That leaves Chief Justice John Roberts as a prospective fourth vote, and Kavanaugh as a fifth.

The 375 women signed affidavits describing how they were harmed by their abortions, detailing injuries including punctured uteruses, punctured colons, sterility and excessive bleeding, among other side effects. One woman whose cervix was sealed by scar tissue from an abortion she had the month before her wedding described her and her baby nearly dying in childbirth from a later pregnancy. She suffered 13 years of infertility and had four miscarriages after her only child was born. The affidavits were collected as part of Operation Outcry, the world’s largest collection of legally admissible testimonies from women harmed by abortions. Allan Parker, president of the Justice Foundation, began collecting them when he was lead counsel for Norma McCorvey, who identified herself as the Roe of Roe v. Wade, as she pushed to reverse the landmark ruling made on her behalf. […] Abortion advocates have pushed campaigns aimed at telling stories of women who were positive about making the decision to end a pregnancy. The #ShoutYourAbortion social media movement was popularized in 2015 to destigmatize the procedure and celebrate its accessibility. The movement encouraged women to be vocal about their abortions and unashamed.

Alexander: The Right’s Love Affair with Kyrsten Sinema and the Elephant in the Room
Many on the right are breathlessly talking about Democratic Sen. Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona as if she’s the next Ronald Reagan, fawning all over her, commenting on how beautiful she is and how they’d like to see her on a vice presidential ticket for president. It’s true she’s provided crucial assistance blocking radical leftist bills or watering them down. But overall, her voting record isn’t that much different than most Democrats. In 2018, when she first ran for the U.S. Senate, her lifetime rating from the American Conservative Union in the House of Representatives was 13. It’s only gone up to 14.59 in 2020, and is lower than it was in 2013. Similarly, The Heritage Foundation’s lifetime ranking of Sinema is 9. The truth is, she has merely opposed her own party on a few high-profile bills. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) has voted against the party far more often, 8%, compared to Sinema’s miniscule 2.8%. As of June 7, she voted with President Joe Biden 100% of the time.

Pennsylvania has a population of roughly 13 million. Bangladesh has a population density of over 3000 people per square mile. The population density of the United States is 94 people per square mile. […] COVID should be tearing through the slums of Dhaka like wildfire, and the bodies should be stacked like cordwood in the narrow, filthy alleys that separate the shacks jammed with people and the gutters running with filth. A single cough could infect dozens of people already weakened by other diseases, malnourished, and unable to afford medical care. It is not.
