Zelikovsky: Not the America of MLK’s Dreams
It’s a shame that as we celebrate Martin Luther King Day, it is increasingly apparent that his dream for “all of God’s children, black men and white men… to join hands and sing… ‘Free at last, free at last. Thank God Almighty, we are free at last’” is more a pipe dream than an achievable goal. The people of America have taken great strides to eradicate all types of racism and we tend to reject it when we see it. Yet, white America stands accused of being racist — not because of our actions or pronouncements, but because of the poverty that continues to plague many black communities. Gullible conservatives believed in King’s dream, rooted in the American dream, that all men are created equal. […] No doubt, in what was once the wealthiest and freest country on the planet, there remains impoverished rural and urban black communities where opportunities are few, children grow up fatherless, churches are disappearing, education is abysmal, drugs, gangs, and shootings are ubiquitous. And this, we are told, is the fault of White America. While it is our inherited problem, it is not our fault. These neighborhoods have been run for at least 60 years by Democrats — often black Democrats. Maxine Waters lives and John Lewis lived like kings while their constituents languish in poverty. Waters doesn’t even live in her district! These political robber barons rile up their crowds with hatred towards whitey and use race as a cudgel to exact funding that doesn’t even trickle down to their constituents. These poor living conditions have been perpetuated by white and black Democrats to their personal benefit and the detriment of their constituents.

To affirm just how pathetic the now extinct national GOP is, Republicans are placing their hopes and dreams with…Joe Manchin, senator from West Virginia. We debunk ourselves, oblivious to our own self-irony. The Problem Republicans have to work much more to drive voter turnout than do Democrats. This is because too many Republicans live in a world created by George Will, Willard Romney, and William Kristol, where democracy is an endeavor of Arthurian nobility, in which the finest traits of man manifest for all the world to see. Democrats? Nah, they don’t bother with any of that drivel — outnumber, overwhelm, and overtake. Vote blue no matter who, no matter what. We lost Arizona, Georgia, and Wisconsin by a combined 43,000 votes. A total of 4.3 million registered voters in these states stayed home on Election Day, and I promise you the majority weren’t Democrats. Furthermore, the Libertarian candidate received more votes in each state than was each’s margin of victory for Biden. Libertarians are romanticizers of democracy as well. Had we won the three, Trump and Biden would have each finished with 269 electoral votes, and the U.S. House of Representatives would have soon thereafter, in accordance with the Twelfth Amendment, held a contingent election, with a state delegation vote for president and a U.S. Senate vote for vice president. End result? Keep America Great, and a real-life, real-time civics lesson. How breathtakingly beautiful it would have been. Instead, we were subjected to . . . Fox: Systematic Racism Is Real and Democrats Are the Ones Engineering It
The reason they don’t accuse Waters of being a racist for preferring illegal border-jumpers over black Americans is that no one ever taught squishy Republicans how to fight. They’re useless. They run crying at the first charge of “racism.” They have no game. They’re pitiful. Take your pick of any number of reasons for it, but Republicans are historically big, fat failures and we’ve all known it for a long time. This is why Donald Trump is so wildly popular with the American conservative voter. This man fights. After years of watching our supposed champions turn tail and run and compromise and quibble, Trump’s “burn it to the ground and salt the ashes” attitude was a welcome and awe-inspiring phenomenon. (Not surprisingly, all the Republican squishes hated him from the beginning. Mittens, fetch me my smelling salts! He’s so uncouth!) Nevertheless, the Democrats are trying preemptively to extinguish a Republican-populist version of their “resistance” by using the execrable and rightly condemned Capitol riot as a pretext to equate legitimate “opposition” with treasonous “sedition.” The Democrats’ “resistance” was no organic, spontaneous uprising. It was a well-orchestrated political operation. Knowing what they did to undermine the Trump Administration, the Democrats know what they must do to stop it from happening to them.
