Solomon: Speaker of Georgia House demands investigation into Fulton County election irregularities
Ralston sent a letter late last week to Fulton County election officials requesting that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation be allowed to conduct the investigation. The request comes after Just the News reported last month that an independent observer for Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger noted two dozen pages of irregularities in the Atlanta vote counting center last Nov. 3, including double scanning of ballots, insecure transportation of ballots and possible voter privacy violations.

It happened that, as I was thinking about writing about my husband and me being canceled by our own children six months ago — we have been agonizing about not being able to talk to them or see our grandson for all that time — a thought popped into my mind: blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Weeks ago, while struggling with how to understand what has happened, I picked up a copy of Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals. Then I looked at a book by David Horowitz entitled Barack Obama’s Rules for Revolution: The Alinsky Model. What I read convinced me that our family, more so our children, had been targeted. We, as a middle-class family who used to live together in the suburbs, were in the bull’s eye. Consider the last chapter of Rules, which was published in 1971.

Notably, the Partisanship Out of Civics Act applies to public K-12 schools rather than to higher education, where constitutional precedent has established a larger sphere of academic freedom. We recommend the model legislations’ language to our colleagues throughout America who wish to rid our public schools of CRT because we believe that its precise language has the greatest ability to achieve real and lasting change.

Mahieu: US Scientists Call for Closer Research Ties With China
American professors are pushing for greater collaboration with Chinese Communist Party scientists even as experts explore the possibility that the deadly coronavirus pandemic originated in a Wuhan virology lab. Twenty-one American and 19 Chinese professors signed on to an article for the Environmental Science and Technology journal advocating for increased collaboration between American and Chinese scientists. The journal is a publication of the American Chemical Society, one of the largest scientific societies in the world. Primarily authored by Glen Daigger of the University of Michigan and Jiuhui Qu of Tsinghua University in Beijing, the article downplays concerns about cooperation between the United States and China while pushing for tighter scientific research sharing and development. Nine of the American co-writers were educated at Chinese universities, and 18 of the journal’s editors work for Beijing-backed institutions.

Suicide rates in civilian and military life prove that systemic racism is a hoax. And that’s why they are a deeply uncomfortable subject for diversity experts because, despite claims that white men are the most privileged group in society, and that minorities, especially black people, are the most oppressed and are suffering unbelieable stress, white men are the ones actually committing suicide in much higher numbers than the “oppressed” minority groups. A recent New York Times article struggled to explain why “social stressors — lower socioeconomic status and racism among them — are more prevalent and severe for the black population than the white one” yet “the black suicide rate is about one-third that of whites”. Given a choice between an inescapable statistical fact and the myth of systemic racism, politicians, experts, and the media dismiss the facts and stick with their racist myth.

This push towards military independence from presidential control has been underway for a while. When Trump wanted to leave Syria, the president’s military advisers lied to him about troop levels. When Trump wanted to deploy the National Guard to quell violent rioting, military officials ordered that troops would not be armed. Later, on his own initiative, Milley bragged of creating a “Ring of Steel” around the Capitol to protect it from “Nazis.” Milley’s greatest regret does not appear to be his role in the failed mission in Afghanistan, or the recent conversion of the military into a woke struggle session, or the fiscal disaster that is procurement. Rather, he seems most determined to atone for criticism he received for accompanying Trump and other executive officials in a survey of Lafayette Park. After this entirely defensible episode, the sting from his peers and the media was too much to bear. He became a born-again convert to wokeism, committed to proving his own loyalty to the Washington, D.C. political class. […] This notion of individuals within the executive branch being a check on the president is a peculiar one. One branch cannot check itself. The executive from whom their power is derived is the president. Approximately two dozen U.S. intelligence officials in Vienna have reported symptoms of an illness that is consistent with Havana Syndrome, a set of neurological symptoms that officials and experts believe is the result of a microwave-radiation attack, during Democrat President Joe Biden’s administration.

Expected to be included in the Congressional Democrats’ $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation bill is language that will advance the party’s goals for immigration reform. Working with the White House, a group of top Capitol Hill Democrats are workshopping placing a handful of immigration measures into the spending bill that will likely be passed via budget reconciliation, that is with no Republican support. For years, efforts to reform the American immigration system have stalled as Democrats and Republicans fail to make any sort of meaningful bipartisan progress on the issue. Now, Democrats are opting to strategically move forward potentially without the need for bipartisan agreement.

Weisman: How Our Leftist Government Gets Its Minimum Wage Hike without Legislation
The Biden administration has discovered a back door to raising the effective minimum wage. Paying lucrative supplemental unemployment benefits, which is effectively subsidizing leisure, increases the opportunity cost of working and thereby places upward pressure on wages as employers seek to incentivize would-be employees to move off the couch and into the workforce. Neither minimum-wage legislation nor political combat with the Republicans is required to implement this policy. The federal government need only keep the spigot open on supplemental unemployment benefits, and employers seeking to attract workers will have no choice but to increase the wages offered to compete. The long-run effects of this policy are deeply concerning precisely because they are so harmful to workers.

We are living in a weird world of constant deception and bizarre government policies. Sometimes the liars are easily exposed, usually the policies are facially absurd, and this week there are 10 such examples. 1. Claiming that the U.S. is responsible for Cuba’s failed state Pinning the blame for Cuba’s failures on the U.S. is the argument of people like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. (The other being the nonsense about Cuba’s great medical care and universal literacy.) In a pithy tweet, James Pethokoukis makes hash of this nonsense. Again, saying a socialist economy would work great — if only it were allowed to trade with the rich capitalist country nearby is not the killer argument that socialists think it is. Babalu blog, which tirelessly covers Cuba, reports on the rebellion going on there and its reasons (none of which have to do with U.S. sanctions, which do not in any event cover food or medicine purchases) summarizes the week’s rebellion on Cuba. This sudden eruption of dissent was caused by a perfect storm of calamities, all of which have revealed the Big Lie of the revolution. Lately, life in Cuba has become more unbearable than ever for just about every Cuban. The crisis is due to a long string of blunders and catastrophes, linked like beads on a rosary from hell: The loss of revenue from Venezuela, a collapsed economy, gargantuan foreign debt, a disastrous sugar harvest, uncontrolled inflation, a plague that is intensifying in Cuba rather than abating, a crumbling health care system, medication shortages, food shortages, water shortages, electricity blackouts, and increased repression, to name but a few. Never mind the sanctions by the United States or the so-called embargo that Cuba’s military junta and many of the world’s news outlets are blaming for the current crisis. These are inconsequential factors, a decoy skillfully manipulated by the oligarchs in order to distract from their own ineptitude and the congenital defects of the communism they embraced. These protesters know the ultimate cause of their distress is their lack of freedom in all spheres of life, which is nothing new. 2. Its dopey, look-alike blathering blondes; has-been, inside-the-beltway politicos; and babbling, same-old-story libertarians, do not amount to a legitimate conservative media outlet. They are certainly not genuinely informed journalists. Who is behind this miserable, failed strategy besides the owner’s rich kids who apparently have decided (post-Ailes and all the sexual inuendo and lawsuits) that the dumb and getting dumber Cavuto, who runs all programming and hates Trump, should be in charge? Piper: Appeals court strips legal immunity from college officials — again — for anti-Christian bias
For the second time this year, the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled against the University of Iowa for discriminating against a Christian student club. The Friday ruling upheld a district court’s decision to strip legal immunity from university officials for derecognizing InterVarsity Christian Fellowship following a 2018 injunction involving another Christian group. Informed by a trial judge that it couldn’t selectively apply its “human rights” policy to Business Leaders in Christ (BLinC), the university responded by derecognizing many more religious student groups that require leaders to adhere to their doctrinal teachings, including on sexuality. […] The longest-serving current justice asked why “university officers, who have time to make calculated choices about enacting or enforcing unconstitutional policies, [should] receive the same protection as a police officer who makes a split-second decision to use force in a dangerous setting?”

America’s Voice: California Approves First State-funded Guaranteed Income Plan
California lawmakers on Thursday approved the first state-funded guaranteed income plan in the U.S., $35 million for monthly cash payments to qualifying pregnant people and young adults who recently left foster care with no restrictions on how they spend it. The votes — 36-0 in the Senate and 64-0 in the Assembly — showed bipartisan support for an idea that is gaining momentum across the country. Dozens of local programs have sprung up in recent years, including some that have been privately funded, making it easier for elected officials to sell the public on the idea. California’s plan is taxpayer-funded and could spur other states to follow its lead.
