Mike McDaniel contributor to American Thinker: The New York Post notes that the British restaurant chain Prezzo recently conducted a survey. The survey asked 2000 people how relaxed they felt when dining out. A whopping 86% of Gen Z adults (if the term ‘adults’ is indeed applicable) said that they suffered from ‘menu anxiety.’ Thirty-four percent of that group said that they got so worked up that they asked a fellow diner to speak to the server for them. Forty percent become so anxious at the prospect of talking to the wait staff that they avoid going out to dinner altogether if they cannot read the menu before arriving at the restaurant. One concern is the cost of the meal, which has some legitimacy to it. Another is the possibility that one might regret one’s order, which is lame. The Post said that a similar U.S. study showed that three out of ten Americans now live with the burden of menu anxiety. As in the UK, the bulk of those suffering from this nightmare are members of Gen Z.

Fleitz: Iran’s Nuclear Weapons Program is Accelerating Because of Joe Biden

According to a new International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) report, Iran increased the rate of its production of near weapons-grade uranium (60% uranium-235) in late November 2023. This increase ended a slowdown of Iran’s 60% uranium enrichment that began in mid-2023 and increased the number of nuclear weapons it could theoretically make and the amount of time to construct them. Iran’s recent ramp-up of uranium enrichment followed warnings last year that the number of nuclear weapons Iran could construct has become dangerously high.

A March 2023 assessment report by the Institute for Science and International Security indicated that Iran could enrich enough weapons-grade uranium (90% uranium-235) for one nuclear weapon in 12 days. In mid-November, the Institute assessed Iran was capable of making enough weapons-grade uranium “for six nuclear weapons in one month, eight in two months, ten in three months, eleven in four months, and twelve in five months.”

Ballasy: Colossal Waste: Feds made $236 billion in ‘improper payments’ last year, watchdog reports

Since 2003, there have been more than $2.4 trillion of improper payments made across the federal government, according to the GAO, and that figure does not include the fiscal year 2023 amount. The government watchdog defines “improper payments” as payments that should not have been made or were made in the incorrect amount, and says they “have consistently been a government-wide issue despite efforts to identify their root causes and reduce them. In fact, the government still doesn’t fully understand the size of federal improper payments, partly because it doesn’t have complete, reliable, or accurate estimates.” In fiscal year 2022, the amount of improper payments was $247 billion. The United States government programs that typically account for the most improper payments include Medicare, Medicaid, the Earned Income Tax Credit, and Social Security.

Unsurprisingly, then, the same age cohort takes the Frantz Fanon view of the October 7 massacre, with a strong majority explicitly agreeing that the 1,200 murders and 250 kidnappings of mostly civilian Israelis—an attack they themselves agree was genocidal, per another poll question—are “justified” by the grievance of Palestinians against Israel. […] The protestors of the Left, cast in the mold of the Red Guard, can seemingly be called upon to flood the streets for any Current Thing that fits into their catechism of oppressor and oppressed. They also believe this country is firmly in the “oppressor” category. It’s important not to mistake protestors’ ignorance of basic facts—like which river and which sea are supposed to serve as the limits of a “liberated” “Palestine”—for a lack of determination about their general worldview. It’s equally crucial not to indulge in the comfortable presumption that this same vanguard would not excuse the same kind of violence if it were visited upon the broader American public.

Yitzhak Brick, (retired) who served as the IDF ombudsman for 10 years, has documented, operating under the spell of Barak’s doctrine, the IDF shut down multiple reserve divisions. It cut its artillery forces by 50%. Armored brigades were shut down. The reserve force was reduced by 80% between 2003 and 2017. The non-commissioned officer corps was gutted. The bulk of the IDF budget and nearly all the U.S. military aid were diverted to the Air Force—the strategic arm of the “small, technological and lethal” IDF.

(12/29/2023) Wheatland: 200 Years Later, The Monroe Doctrine Is Still The Best Protector Of U.S. Interests

This month marks the 200th anniversary of the Monroe Doctrine. If celebration (or even acknowledgment) seems muted, that may be because policymakers and the public know little about the principles and grand strategy underlying the doctrine. Few likely understand the doctrine because its meaning has been distorted throughout American history, especially in the Progressive Era by Theodore Roosevelt’s corollary. Some see it, for better or worse, as the beginning of America’s commitment to maintaining an international order by arms and diplomacy. But this is incorrect. The Monroe Doctrine was not a blueprint for establishing an international order, or even for American involvement throughout the Western Hemisphere. It was an expression of the moral principles and strategic thinking that animated foreign affairs for the first century of our national existence. It is also the blueprint for returning to a realistic grand strategy that can preserve American liberty from threats foreign and domestic.

States throughout the country, including some red states, are breaking the law by persecuting religious schools and charities. Here are nine of the most unexpected offenders. 1. Virginia Disabled students suffer because of Virginia’s violation of the First Amendment. Virginia’s school districts and local governments can contract with any “public or private nonsectarian school, agency, institution,” or “nonsectarian child-day programs” to provide special education services. If the nearest option or best fit for your student happens to have a religious affiliation, your child will have to attend a further or worse option to receive funding. Historically black colleges and universities and other nonprofit institutions of higher education are unconstitutionally prevented from using state funds for facilities or programs related to “sectarian instruction.” Virginia singles out religious institutions for worse treatment under industrial development powers and ineligibility for historic preservation consideration and grants, and excludes them from receiving funds to provide social services. Egregiously, this latter provision specifically singles out some religious organizations — the YMCA, YWCA, Habitat for Humanity, and the Salvation Army — for special treatment.
