Zeiger: This Bill of Rights Day, Let’s Celebrate the Preamble

December 15th marks Bill of Rights Day, which commemorates the 232nd anniversary when the first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution were ratified. December 15th should be a day all Americans reflect on the unique blessings the Bill of Rights safeguards – the freedom of speech, the right to bear arms, and being protected from undue searches and seizures, to name just a few. But Bill of Rights Day also offers us the opportunity to reflect upon another unique aspect of our republic: the Preamble to the United States Constitution. Originally penned by Gouverneur Morris, the Preamble states, “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, ensure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain this Constitution for the United States of America.”

National Archives: The Bill of Rights: What Does it Say?

The Bill of Rights is the first 10 Amendments to the Constitution. It spells out Americans’ rights in relation to their government. It guarantees civil rights and liberties to the individual—like freedom of speech, press, and religion. It sets rules for due process of law and reserves all powers not delegated to the Federal Government to the people or the States. And it specifies that “the enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.”

These records show clearly that with no help from human activities, Earth has suffered recurring periods of volcanism, tidal waves, floods, droughts, asteroid strikes, planetary disruptions, magnetic reversals, ice ages and the extinction of many species. Archaeology and studies of tree rings have also revealed more recent evidence of disruptive natural climate changes. […] Carbon dioxide plays almost no part in this drama except with plant life. When the seas warm up, the dissolved CO2 is driven into the atmosphere and plant life flourishes. But when the oceans cool down, carbon dioxide is re-dissolved and plants suffer. Fried: A State-by-State Look at Noncitizen Voting

Very recently, the Heartland Institute and Rasmussen Reports released the shocking results of their survey of 1,085 national likely voters. Of the ten questions asked, I think the most disturbing responses were related to these:

“During the 2020 election, did you cast a mail-in ballot in a state where you were no longer a permanent resident?” (17% said, “Yes.”).
“During the 2020 election, did a friend, family member, or organization, such as a political party, offer to pay or reward you for voting?” (8% said, “Yes.”).
“Do you know a friend, family member, co-worker, or other acquaintance who has admitted to you that he or she filled out a ballot on behalf of another person?” (11% said, “Yes.”).

Those results are bad enough, but I’d like to expand them to include two groups that probably did not respond to the survey: noncitizens and dead people. I could be wrong about the noncitizens, but I am certain I am correct with regard to our lately departed friends. In 2018, at an event with Senator Elizabeth Warren, Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams told supporters that a “blue wave” would carry her to victory in her competition with Brian Kemp. That wave, she emphasized, would include both documented and undocumented voters. It may seem shocking that a major candidate would advocate the recruitment of illegal voters, but Abrams was simply saying out loud what many politicians seem to welcome.

Badran: Iran Sponsored the October 7 Massacre. America Paid for It.

It may strike some observers as curious, and others as unimaginably evil, that only weeks after Hamas slaughtered over 1,200 Israelis on Oct. 7, the Biden administration awarded sanctions waivers worth $10 billion to Iran, the primary external sponsor of those attacks. The waiver, which allows Iran to collect money from the sale of electricity to Iraq, an arrangement that further deepens Iranian control of that country, came with an added bonus: Iran would be allowed to convert the funds into euros which it could spend immediately, without the usual requirement that the money remain in escrow inside Iraq. The prospect that Iran might immediately spend the money it receives on continuing to target U.S. bases in Iraq and Syria doesn’t appear to have disrupted the deal, either. Which is strange. […] Team Biden’s overriding concern since Oct. 8 has been to safeguard its arrangement with Iran, which means extending a protective umbrella to Tehran’s Lebanese equity and working to pause the Israeli operation in Gaza—an explicit Iranian demand. That the price of this arrangement has been paid in Israeli and American blood doesn’t seem to bother the Biden administration one bit, even if the quantities of blood might have been a bit higher than expected.

Fleitz: Biden Turns on Netanyahu Ahead of 2024

A few weeks ago, I predicted that after giving Israel a few weeks to end its war with Hamas, President Biden would turn on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in 2024 because of growing and outspoken opposition to the war by Mr. Biden’s anti-Israel progressive base. I was wrong. President Biden began vilifying Netanyahu and his government this week. This included President Biden making the very damning public statement that Israel was losing international support because of its “indiscriminate bombing” of Gaza. The President also this week called for Netanyahu to “change his government” to expel hardline ministers who oppose a two-state solution peace agreement between Israel and Palestinians and criticized Netanyahu’s administration as the “most conservative government in Israel’s history.” President Biden’s criticism comes at a pivotal time when Israel is facing growing global opposition to the war and a recent non-binding UN General Assembly resolution calling for an immediate humanitarian cease-fire that passed overwhelmingly. […] This treatment of one of America’s closest allies at such a dire time in its history is shameful and unprincipled. It will lead to unnecessary tension between the United States and Israel at a time when there should be no daylight between the two countries on security issues. It also reflects the fecklessness of President Biden’s leadership as Commander-in-Chief and why Biden has severely undermined international security and America’s global reputation during his presidency.

Shalal, Mason & Holland: Top Biden adviser to meet Palestinian President Abbas on Friday

The adviser, Jake Sullivan, will discuss “ongoing efforts to revamp and revitalize” the Palestinian Authority and reining in “extremist settler violence” against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, said one of the officials, who declined to be named. Sullivan said on Thursday that governance of the West Bank and Gaza Strip needs to be connected under a refurbished Palestinian Authority. The official said U.S.-trained Palestinian security forces had performed “incredibly well” in preventing violence instigated by Hamas in the West Bank after the Oct. 7 attack, and there were a number of personnel there that could form “some sort of a nucleus” for a future force in the months following Israel’s military campaign.

If the West wants a solution to the Middle East conflict, it must take a long look in the mirror. The simmering tensions between Israel and the Biden administration over the plan for post-war Gaza have now come to a boil. The U.S. is doubling down on its insistence that Gaza must be run by a revamped Palestinian Authority. The Americans are still obsessed with a “two-state solution” to the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Arabs. This week, U.S. President Joe Biden told a White House Chanukah reception that there has to be a Palestinian state in the future and that Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu needs to make an effort to strengthen, change and “move” the P.A. Netanyahu riposted that Israel would permit neither Hamas nor the P.A. to rule Gaza. Israel, he said, would not repeat the “mistake of Oslo,” a reference to the 1993 Oslo Accords between Israel and the terrorist Palestine Liberation Organization under which control of Gaza and parts of the disputed territories of Judea and Samaria were handed over to the newly-created P.A. […] the Palestinians have been repeatedly offered a state of their own and turned it down, resorting instead to violence against Israel every time. The West’s obsession with a two-state “solution” is therefore a type of madness. The core reason for this is the West’s refusal to recognize that the most important factor in this never-ending conflict is the behavior of the West itself.

Amid Israel’s continued ground incursion against the Sunni-Islamic terrorist group Hamas, following the Oct. 7 massacre against Israeli civilians, the Houthi rebels, the Islamic Republic of Iran-backed terrorist group, continue to attack American naval ships and commercial vessels. Houthi rebels claimed responsibility Tuesday for a missile strike on a Norwegian-flagged tanker, reiterating its support for the military campaign against Israel and the United States. […] American and French warships patrolling the Red Sea have taken down several missiles and drones several times since the terrorist groups began the attacks.

The Red Sea is a critical trade route for global shipping and energy supplies, with around 40% of international trade passing through the Strait of Bab-el-Mandeb (Gate of Tears), a narrow waterway that separates the Arabian Peninsula from the Horn of Africa. France and other American allies have also witnessed their military forces attacked by the Houthis in the Red Sea.

Rowland: Pentagon falls 41,000 short of reduced military recruitment goals

The Defense Department’s senior officials testified Wednesday about shortfalls in Army, Navy and Air Force recruiting in the fiscal year that ended in September at a hearing of the House Armed Services Military Personnel Subcommittee. The Marine Corps and Space Force made their recruiting goals.

Deputy Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness Ashish Vazirani said that during fiscal year 2023, the military services together missed goals by about 41,000 recruits. “That number understates the challenge before us as the services lowered [their] end-strength goals in recent years, in part because of the difficult recruiting environment,” he said. “The all-volunteer force faces one of its greatest challenges since inception.”

Who you gonna believe….me or your own eyes? […] During the past few years, we have been subjected to pretty much the same line, multiple times. The surprising thing is that in many cases we believe the lie instead of what we clearly see:

Covid originated in a wet market.
There is nothing you can do…just “social distance,” sicken at home until you can’t breathe, then come to the hospital and be put on Remdesivir and a ventilator.
Churches and schools must be closed, but liquor stores must remain open.
Masks work. Wear two of them! Wear them outside and while alone in the car.
The “vaccine” is safe and effective.
Disagreeing with Fauci is an attack of science itself.
Hydroxychloroquine and Ivermectin are useless.

But this has not been confined to Covid. These assertions have also made the rounds and similar statements are actually increasing:

Defunding the police will make you safer.
“Climate Change” is an existential threat and more dangerous than nuclear war.
“Science is settled!”
“White Supremacists” and Christian Fundamentalists are more dangerous than Al-Qaeda.
Being against anti-Semitism is being for islamophobia.
“Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” should be mandated as it is fair. The fact that it really is “Orthodoxy, Inequality, and Exclusion” is false.

ALL these assertions are at least open to questioning. Yet to question them is considered anathema by the current powers that be. Why? Why can THESE assertions not be open to discussion? Kendi remarked on a panel recently that white people—globally—have failed to “reckon with how much their own personal identity is shaped by constructions of whiteness.” He went on to explain how “that construction of whiteness prevents white people from connecting to humanity.” White people, he took pains to explain—not “whiteness,” but white people individually—see themselves as “over humanity” and not as “part and parcel of humanity.” They are unable to “connect to people who don’t look like [them]” or to relate humanistically to people with darker skin. “It’s whiteness that prevents that.” This creates “not just societal problems, but personal problems” that his latest film will “liberate” white people from. Chimneyrock Elementary School in Cordova, part of the Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS), will play host to the After School Satan Club. The Satanic Temple announced the club on Tuesday. Eventually Kizzia’s behavior became so alarming that the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources at the Scottsdale Unified School District reported Kizzia’s unprofessional conduct: […] Through the School’s investigation, over 600 pages of documentation from Educator Kizzia were discovered that included questionnaires asking inappropriate questions regarding sex, drug usage, and other fact-finding “grooming” questions. These questionnaires were not sanctioned by the District. Period.” Brick went on to explain that President Joe Biden’s demand that Israel permit “humanitarian aid” to enter Gaza means that he is demanding that Israel keep Hamas fully supplied with food, water and fuel. His demand that Israel minimize Palestinian civilian casualties endangers IDF soldiers and renders the expansion of the ground offensive into central and southern Gaza, where the bulk of Hamas’s force is now located, almost impossible to carry out. Brick suggested various forms of long-term tunnel warfare and other suggestions for how the IDF may be able to defeat Hamas over time while operating within the constraints that Biden and his top advisors are dictating.

EILAT, Israel—Natali Yohanan, a 38-year-old mother of two, never locked the doors of her house in Nir Oz, a kibbutz near Israel’s border with the Gaza Strip. There wasn’t even a key. On Oct. 7, a Gazan woman walked through Yohanan’s unlocked front door and made herself at home for hours, eating, singing, and watching Netflix. Sometimes, the woman served drinks to armed terrorists who stopped by for a break from the massacre they were conducting outside. Yohanan, hiding with her family in the safe room of the house, did not get a chance to see the unwanted house guests. But she imagines the woman is a young mother like her and wonders how she could have been so cruel. Like many survivors of Hamas’s surprise attack from Gaza, Yohanan no longer believes coexistence with the Palestinians is possible. “It’s very hard for me as a mother to think about a woman who came to my home and saw the pictures of my kids and still came to steal and to terrify my kids,” Yohanan told the Washington Free Beacon at a hotel in this Red Sea resort city where her family relocated along with most of the kibbutz. “I never thought the common people, kids and women, would participate in things like that. It broke my faith in the goodness of people, especially people from Gaza.”

Duke: Youths With Conservative Parents FAR Less Likely to Have Mental Problems: Study

We’ve heard stories about children “canceling” their conservative parents, cutting all ties with them over objections to their politics. But they should actually be thankful for their traditionalist elders because, a new study informs, the typical “rightist” parenting style can keep kids right in the head. In contrast, “leftist” parenting is more associated with youths who’ve left sanity. As Fox News reports: A June 2023 [Gallup] study surveying 6,643 parents and 1,580 adolescents found that conservative and very conservative parents were the “most likely to adopt the parenting practices associated with adolescent mental health,” the research reported in the Institute for Family Studies found. “Adolescents with very conservative parents are 16 to 17 percentage points more likely to be in good or excellent mental health compared to their peers with very liberal parents,” the report said

Recent elections in Holland, Sweden, Italy and Argentina have given victories to a new type of conservative leader based on a faulty premise. Some Christians hold that the only way to fight against godless and immoral times is with godless leaders who practice no established religion and follow no set rules.

Only these outside mavericks who know how to navigate in rough, godless waters can adequately represent desperate Christians. The new leaders claim (quite rightly) that the system is broken and, therefore, conclude (quite wrongly) that all old rules can be broken abruptly to bring about radical change.
