ON DECEMBER 7, 2023 WE WILL COMMEMORATE THE 82ND ANNIVERSARY OF THE ATTACK ON PEARL HARBOR

Pearl Harbor is a U.S. naval base near Honolulu, Hawaii, that was the scene of a devastating surprise attack by Japanese forces on December 7, 1941. Just before 8 a.m. on that Sunday morning, hundreds of Japanese fighter planes descended on the base, where they managed to destroy or damage nearly 20 American naval vessels, including eight battleships, and over 300 airplanes. More than 2,400 Americans died in the attack, including civilians, and another 1,000 people were wounded. The day after the assault, President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war on Japan.

On December 7, 1941, Japanese planes attacked the United States Naval Base at Pearl HarborExternal, Hawaii Territory, killing more than 2,300 Americans. The U.S.S. Arizona was completely destroyed and the U.S.S. Oklahoma capsized. A total of twelve ships sank or were beached in the attack and nine additional vessels were damaged. More than 160 aircraft were destroyed and more than 150 others damaged. A hurried dispatch from the ranking United States naval officer in Pearl Harbor, Admiral Husband Edward Kimmel, Commander in Chief of the United States Pacific Fleet, to all major navy commands and fleet units provided the first official word of the attack at the ill-prepared Pearl Harbor base. It said simply: AIR RAID ON PEARL HARBOR X THIS IS NOT DRILL.

To call climate change a crisis is to radically change the meaning of the word. The climate has always changed and it always will. We call that “weather”. Every year our weather is a little different, yet that is not a crisis. In fact, it has been warmer in recent history, the year 1936 was warmer than today. Careful analysis of Antarctic ice cores has demonstrated that temperatures rise first, followed by an increase in carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is not a dangerous gas. Carbon dioxide in submarines and on spacecraft are ten times what it is in our atmosphere, so we know it is not dangerous. No carbon dioxide, no plants; it is that simple. A group of House lawmakers representing the Pacific Northwest made public a court-approved confidential mediation between the Biden administration and environmental groups pushing to remove four hydroelectric dams in Washington to protect salmon. Weichselbaum, Rappleye, Kaplan, Chaidez and Lee: Defying presidents and Congress, the ATF, DEA, FBI and U.S. Marshals shroud their shootings in secrecy

Had they been local police shootings, they might have generated public demands to release body camera video and use-of-force investigation reports. But they were federal operations, conducted by agents and task forces with four federal law enforcement agencies — the FBI, the ATF, the DEA and the U.S. Marshals Service — in which the use of force remains largely a black box, free from public scrutiny. Congress and a string of presidents for nearly 30 years have been pushing federal law enforcement to reform and become more transparent. But those four agencies overseen by the Justice Department, among the most prestigious in the country, have been slow to adopt reforms long embraced by big-city police departments, such as the use of body cameras and the release of comprehensive use-of-force data. To understand how often federal officers and their task forces use deadly force, NBC News built a database of shootings that involved officers working for or with the ATF, the DEA, the FBI and the Marshals Service by reviewing five years’ worth of public documents, news releases, lawsuits and news reports. From 2018 to 2022, 223 people were shot by an on-duty federal officer, a member of a federal task force or a local officer participating in an operation with federal agents, according to an NBC News analysis. A total of 151 were killed, an average of 30 per year.

“If [Vladimir] Putin takes over Ukraine, he’ll get Moldova, Georgia, then maybe the Baltics,” House Foreign Affairs Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) told The Messenger, after Austin and other senior Biden administration officials briefed House lawmakers on their request for more aid for Ukraine. “And then the idea that we’ll have to put troops on the ground in Secretary Austin’s word was very likely,” McCaul added. “That’s what we’re trying to avoid.” The Messenger reported that the warning “did little” to win over Republican skeptics, who oppose more aid to Ukraine without more accountability and transparency on how it will help Ukraine. Goodman: Biden Admin Gave $86 Million to Company Accused of Peddling Fake COVID Test Kits

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced the funding to CorDx, a COVID test kit manufacturer, in September. The deal will finance free testing products to American households and is intended to “bolster U.S. manufacturing.” But records obtained by the Free Beacon raise questions about CorDx’s testing kits and its domestic manufacturing capabilities. One of the company’s competitors claimed CorDx sold knockoff kits stamped with a false brand name, in violation of Food and Drug Administration regulations, and that CorDx’s was producing the tests in China. The news comes as the Biden administration has faced scrutiny over fraud in COVID spending and as it works to comply with regulations to spend the funding domestically rather than in China.

Today the presidents of Harvard, Penn and MIT were summoned before a House committee for questioning about anti-semitism on their campuses. I haven’t watched the whole testimony, but this clip is getting a lot of attention. Elise Stefanik asks each president whether calling for genocide of the Jews would violate that school’s code of conduct with regard to bullying or harassment. None of the witnesses had a clear answer to the question: The presidents said that calling for genocide could be bullying or harassment, depending on the context. The required context was never made clear.

Rep. Elise Stefanik posted on X: Presidents of @Harvard @MIT and @Penn REFUSE to say whether “calling for the genocide of Jews” is bullying and harassment according to their codes of conduct. Even going so far to say it needs to turn to “action” first. As in committing genocide. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND ANTISEMITIC. They must all resign immediately today.

Kredo: Just 4 Percent of American Universities Condemned Hamas Terror Attack on Israel as Anti-Semitic

The study, conducted by the AMCHA Initiative, a nonprofit that combats anti-Semitism, found that America’s universities had a vastly different response to Hamas’s slaughter than they did to crimes perpetrated against African Americans and Asians. “School leaders who respond appropriately to group trauma affecting Black and Asian students, but who are unwilling to do the same for Jewish students—despite the legitimacy of their fears and anxieties about the current situation in Israel and Gaza and the unbridled bigotry they face on campus—cannot be trusted to keep Jewish students safe,” the study concludes.

McEntyre: Billionaire who refused to hire anti-Israel grads demands Ivy League chiefs ‘resign in disgrace’ for antisemitism failures

Billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman is calling for the presidents of three prestigious universities to “resign in disgrace” following their comments during a congressional hearing on Tuesday. The Harvard Alum was angered by his alma mater’s leader Claudine Gay along with University of Pennsylvania Liz Magill and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) president Sally Kornbluth for their failure to call out antisemitic protests that have taken place on their campuses. “In short, they said: It ‘depends on the context’ and ‘whether the speech turns into conduct,’ that is, actually killing Jews,” Ackman said in a post on X. “This could be the most extraordinary testimony ever elicited in the Congress, certainly on the topic of genocide.”

I have had scant exposure to how colleges and universities advertise themselves to prospective students. I’ve fleetingly observed college tours being conducted on the campus where I’m employed, but until recently that was the extent of my knowledge of this important aspect of the projection of self-identity by the contemporary world of higher education to its prospective clients. I have recently added a substantial amount of data to that previously largely empty file. I’ve been doing college tours of late with my oldest daughter, who is just beginning her high school senior year and will be enrolling in college next fall. What I’ve gathered gives a distressing portrait of the ever-increasing profile of Woke ideology on campuses. […] It was hard to discern from the presentation what of academic interest might be going on at her campus, so much was it centered on the glories of cultural diversity and the rich multicultural experiences to be had in the city. Do students read any of the classical canon of Western literature? Are they required to introduce themselves to the history of thought in the West, including the history of science? There was no mention of any of this. At some other schools […] my take home from the tours was depressing. Here were prestigious American colleges and universities telling prospective students what is most important in those institutions, and the message, alas, is mostly about how much they are doing to dissolve the historical raison d’être of higher education, that is, the pursuit of truth, and replace it with the rising culture of identity, resentment, and victimization.

A systematic review of studies of mask mandates for children, published Saturday in the British Medical Journal‘s Archives of Disease in Childhood, found “no association” with infection or transmission in 16 of the 22 observational studies and “critical” or “serious” risk of bias in the six countervailing studies. Self-reported SARS-CoV-2 infection was higher the more often people said they wore masks, according to a Norwegian study accepted for publication Nov. 13 in the Cambridge University Press journal Epidemiology and Infection.
