One such place was Charleston, South Carolina, where a mass grave was uncovered of 257 Union soldiers who had died in a prison camp. On May 1, 1865, former slaves organized a parade, led by 2,800 singing black children, in which they prayed, read Bible verses, sang spirituals, and reburied the soldiers with honor as an act of gratefulness for their ultimate sacrifice which gave them freedom. In 1868, General John A. Logan, commander of the Civil War veterans’ organization “The Grand Army of the Republic,” called for a Decoration Day to be observed annually on May 30.

Matthew Graves wasted no time doing the political dirty work of the man who appointed him to serve as the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia: Joe Biden. The Biden regime, Attorney General Merrick Garland in particular, faced heat in late 2021 for failing to bring harsher charges against Americans who protested Biden’s election on January 6. Garland was on the defensive for seeking mostly misdemeanor charges, giving the Right ammunition to mock the media’s description of the four-hour disturbance as an “insurrection.” Enter Graves, the man responsible for prosecuting every January 6 case.

Shortly after taking the reins of the powerful office, Graves charged 11 members or affiliates of the Oath Keepers, including founder Stewart Rhodes, with seditious conspiracy, the most serious charge brought by the Justice Department in the unprecedented criminal investigation. Created during the Civil War as an alternative to treason to punish supporters of the Confederacy, seditious conspiracy is tantamount to waging war against the United States government. Graves’ indictment not only broke new legal ground to criminalize political speech but lent credence to Biden’s claims made during his speech on the afternoon of January 6 that what was happening at the Capitol “border[ed] on sedition.” Garland’s office announced the indictment in a lengthy press release on January 13, 2022 to great fanfare. Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin awarded Garland with her “distinguished pol of the week” prize for “dramatically ratchet[ing] up the investigation.”

Tapson: Kafka Comes to College

On Friday, April 14 2023, Ohio Northern University law professor Scott Gerber and his students were shocked and alarmed to see campus security officers, backed up by armed local police, unceremoniously enter the classroom, remove Gerber, and escort him to the Dean’s office. There the professor with 22 years experience, a history of excellent evaluations, and courses filled to capacity was immediately barred from teaching, banished from the ONU campus, and told that if he didn’t sign a separation agreement and release of claims by April 21^st, the university would commence dismissal proceedings against him. On what grounds? Insufficient “collegiality.” The real reason, as Gerber went on to explain in a Wall Street Journal opinion piece published a few weeks later, titled “DEI Brings Kafka to My Law School,” was insufficient compliance with the school’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, to which he had objected publicly and in newspaper op-eds and television interviews. The mission of DEI, of course, is the implementation of social justice revenge. It has metastasized throughout every institution of society: government agencies, the military, corporations, the legal and medical fields, law enforcement, the entertainment industry, literally every Human Resources department anywhere.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer says an informant file that he’s seeking from the FBI links President Biden to a $5 million bribery scheme while he was vice president. Comer (R-Ky.) revealed the size of the alleged bribe for the first time Wednesday in a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray, threatening him with contempt proceedings if he doesn’t share the file pursuant to a May 3 subpoena. The informant tip is dated June 30, 2020, Comer wrote — an additional clue in the mysterious allegation that triggered a guessing game due to the Biden family’s extensive consulting work in countries where the then-VP held sway.

Whedon: House GOP investigates Bank of America providing FBI with customer data

House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan and Kentucky GOP Rep. Thomas Massie wrote to Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan on Thursday, informing him of the investigation and asking that he provide them with documents related to the bank’s alleged activities in connection with the whistleblower’s claims.

The lawmakers pointed to the testimony of retired FBI Supervisory Intelligence Analyst George Hill, who said that the bank “with no directive from the FBI, data-mined its customer base. And they data-mined a date range of 5 to 7 January [of 2021] any BOA customer who used a BOA product.” Hill further indicated that the bank had looked into its customers who purchased firearms and those who made transactions in Washington, D.C., during the date range.

The media is discounting the possibility that was sanctioned by the U.S. or the U.K. and suggesting it was carried out by Ukraine without consulting its NATO partners. Goldman: The American Economy’s Wile E. Coyote Moment

Call it America’s Wile E. Coyote moment. The end of the $6 trillion COVID stimulus and the erosion of real earnings by inflation might have put the economy into recession already, but U.S. consumers continue to buy with plastic to make up for lost real earnings. Result: we continue treading air even as the bottom sags beneath us. The U.S. economy continues to show modest growth, with real GDP rising at a 1.1% annual rate in the first quarter, largely due to higher consumption, despite falling real hourly earnings. Biden unleashed supply-side inflation by helicoptering $3 trillion into an economy already in recovery after the COVID shutdown. One can debate the wisdom of the Trump Administration’s earlier $3 trillion stimulus, but that was a shot of adrenalin for a patient with heart failure. Biden doubled the dose and unleashed an inflation driven by demand for goods that the U.S. economy couldn’t produce fast enough.

The problem was spending, not easy money (unlike the 1970s, when easy credit fed an asset price bubble, credit growth was subdued going into the inflationary surge of 2021, as I documented in a 2022 study for RealClearPolitics). The Fed first claimed there was no inflation, and then claimed it was transitory, and finally decided that the right response was to tighten credit—even though credit didn’t cause the problem in the first place.

The boycott over Bud Light’s partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney does not seem to be letting up, as sales numbers have dropped about 25 percent for the sixth consecutive week. While the brand is undertaking a marketing blitz and even giving away beer (through a rebate) to promote sales, based on its latest move, it appears Bud Light hasn’t learned much amid the boycott. Bud Light and its parent company Anheuser-Busch are sponsoring several “pride” events, according to The Daily Wire, including the Cincinnati Pride event on June 24 and the Pride St. Louis festival on June 24-25. Bud Light is also a Diamond corporate partner for Stonewall Columbus, which hosts several “pride” events in Columbus, Ohio, throughout June. Companies must donate $20,000 to be included in this sponsorship level as well as “affirm Stonewall’s diversity, equity, and inclusion policies AND agree to donate no less than 8 hours of volunteer time during a calendar year,” according to a document from the organization. Let us now turn to Part-2: A key aspect of a male character rests squarely on overcoming obstacles, that may include working with others, but does not rest in getting others to do things for you, which flows more into female skills. This male trait means overcoming resistance from your own vices, and or those of other people and nature. Fathers should teach boys to deal with digs or slights from others in their youth as a very practical first step to learning when and how to deal with attacks. Having young men recognize when you may have to fight someone, or not, is key to their early lives with other males. Bad company managers or bosses bully as well, and so how one should deal with them as well should be covered? Should you kick the dog when you get home, out of frustration, as you think you can take it- and in fact cannot? A man of character understands himself most of all, and knows how much he can take. He may find sports outlets to take out his frustration or anything else that allows for a letting off of steam. Most of the time these confrontations can be water off a duck’s back with digs, but it takes self-discipline.

Now, in a move that is expected to have major implications across the cable and streaming, the company is looking to expand its reputation as the new hub for true family friendly entertainment by purchasing the Christian streaming service ‘PureFlix’. “This merger will allow us to further our commitment to original, quality content and makes Great American Media and Pure Flix leaders in a large and under-served market,” . . . PureFlix is a Christian production company responsible for films such as ‘I’m Not Ashamed’, ‘Indivisible’, and ‘Unplanned’. In 2020, Sony Pictures Entertainment purchased the Pure Flix streaming video service, though left the rights to the company’s production studio with its founders.

Zeisloft: New York City Officials Freeze Accounts After Banks Fail To Submit Anti-Discrimination Plans

Officials in New York City limited account deposits on Thursday at Capital One and KeyBank after the financial institutions failed to submit required anti-discrimination plans. The city issued mandates earlier this year for banks which hold public funds to detail “specific steps to combat different forms of discrimination in their operations.” An announcement from the office of New York City Comptroller Brad Lander claimed that Capital One and KeyBank “outright refused” to comply with the requirement. […] New York City officials received criticism for compelling banks to comply with the environmental, social, and corporate governance movement, also known as ESG, which asserts that businesses should leverage their financial power to advance certain social objectives. Peter Schiff, a stockbroker and financial commentator, said on social media that banks “only discriminate based on competence and credit worthiness” since they are focused on maximizing profits. He said that New York City wants banks to “hire and make loans to minority applicants, even if they are less qualified and more likely to default.”

Sloop: Texas high school forced to postpone graduation ceremony after just FIVE of 33 students were eligible: Teachers blame poor attendance and grades

A high school located in Texas has been forced to postpone its commencement after just 15 percent of the senior class reached the requirements to graduate. In a letter sent to parents and families, Marlin ISD Superintendent Darryl Henson said most seniors did not make the cut due to low grades and attendance records. District officials have postponed the ceremony to June in order to give students the time to catch up and hopefully check the boxes needed to obtain their diplomas.

United and Alaska Airlines pilots were forced to ABORT landing at full-tilt at San Francisco airport to avoid close call with Southwest jet which was taxiing in the middle of both runways

Two airliners aborted landings at San Francisco International Airport last week after pilots spotted a Southwest Airlines jet taxiing across runways on which the other planes had been cleared to land. An air traffic controller told the Southwest pilots they should not have been on the runways during the May 19 incident. The Federal Aviation Administration said Thursday that the Southwest plane cleared the runways when the other planes passed directly overhead, and the decision to abort the landings was ‘precautionary.’ ‘The FAA looked into the events and determined the appropriate steps were taken to ensure safe operations,’ the agency said. The National Transportation Safety Board said it is not investigating the matter. The incident comes after a half-dozen close calls in recent months that are being investigated by safety officials.

The layoffs are impacting staffers in the U.S. and the EMEA region (comprising Europe, the Middle East and Africa), according to the outlet. Though the exact number of people who will lose their positions is currently unknown, Deadline noted that roughly 100 staffers were informed in mid-May that their positions were at risk of redundancy. Marketing and press departments appear to be the main targets of the layoffs, sources told Deadline. Members of Disney’s talent acquisition, engineering and information technology departments are also at risk.
