Tucker: Eugenics, Then and Now

The catastrophic Covid response has many people wondering whether we should really turn over public policy — which deals with fundamental matters of human freedom — much less public health, to a state-appointed scientific establishment. Must moral imperatives give way to the judgment of technical experts in the natural sciences? Should we trust their authority? Their power? There is a real history here to consult. There’s no better case study than the use of eugenics: the science, so called, of breeding a better race of human beings. It was popular in the Progressive Era and following, and it heavily informed US government policy. Back then, the scientific consensus was all in for public policy founded on high claims of perfect knowledge based on expert research. There was a cultural atmosphere of panic (“race suicide!”) and a clamor for the experts to put together a plan to deal with it. The American Society of Human Genetics recently issued a report apologizing for its past role in eugenics. The statement is fine as far as it goes and provides a brief overview of eugenic history. However, the report, if anything, is too narrow and too weak. Eugenics was not merely bigotry with a gloss of science. Over time it became the driving force behind segregation, sterilization, labor-market exclusion of the “unfit,” the careful management of immigration, marriage and procreation licenses, demographics, and far more. The underlying presumption always concerned the biological health of the whole population, which these elites imagined to be their exclusive purview. Based on that core idea, eugenic ideology came to be deeply embedded in ruling-class circles in academia, courts, elite media, and finance. Indeed, it was so orthodox that it was hardly disputed in polite company. Eugenic dreams filled the pages of newspapers, journals, and magazines – nearly all of them.

If any judge dares cross the mob, they will make them and their families pay. Sunday after Sunday, week after week, they will be menaced and intimidated in their homes. Similar activity goes on in front of the home of Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Yes, if the Senate approves a judge nominated by President Trump that the mob doesn’t approve of, they will make their life hell until they rule in favor of the mob from the bench. All this goes on as the creeps at the Department of Justice stand idly by and laugh at the law. All as the Justices’ families are emotionally lynched week after week. The sicker a puppy you are, the more likely you are to rise to the top at the Department of Justice.

So far, the party with the significant edge here has been the Democrats. The answer is to implement blockchain voting. This means using a secure, public digital database that can be audited by anyone. Surprisingly, this technology has been implemented by several organizations for years. The system I’m most familiar with is the Dash cryptocurrency network, which operates a grants system where applicants submit funding requests to the network, and these are either approved or denied by stakeholder vote on a monthly basis. (The network is run by stakeholders, similar to how Congress is elected by voters. Stakeholders are anyone who owns some of the currency.) All this is done in a completely transparent and auditable manner where anyone can verify election results at any time. I have personally participated in both the voting and grant request sides of this system numerous times, and the system has been operating continuously for almost eight years now.

The U.S. has long walked a fine line with its ambiguous “One China” policy, which acknowledges China’s claims to sovereignty over Taiwan without accepting them. Additional reasons for concern by 2025: Xi has promised his military and civil leaders the necessity of solving the “Taiwan Problem.” Should he be stymied, his political future is at risk. China does not . . . […] During a balls-to-the-wall fight, combatants must go flat-out 24×7 without concern over financial constraints. The U.S. has always been behind the curve at the start of hostilities in major wars. Historically we had too few trained personnel and insufficient weapons and munitions. From the Civil War through WWI and II, war clouds were visible just over the horizon, yet we ignored the warnings that would have said it was time to prepare. Such head-in-the-sand thinking sees thousands of troops killed unnecessarily due to inadequate force structure. The price of being unprepared is paid in blood. Being prepared does not mean you must fight a war. But it may keep the other side from miscalculating their chances of victory.

Floresca: REPORT: Florida Teacher Arrested For Alleged ‘Sexual Contact’ With 12-Year-Old Student

Thirty-year-old Davis Augustine Hodge Jr. was arrested Wednesday for allegedly having sex with one of his students, according to the Miami Herald. He is facing four counts of “using his authority” to have sex with the child. Police say the suspect allegedly lured the child into his classroom at West Homestead K-8 Center by using his position as sponsor of the school’s after school chess club on Fridays. The teacher allegedly engaged in “sexual contact” with the victim at least four times, the outlet reported. The now 13-year-old reportedly said that the relationship was “romantic” and stated that Hodge was her “boyfriend,” the outlet noted.

Others study sociology and human behavior with the genre. “Generally, monsters show us what we might fear as a society, and one of the greatest fears that our society has is a fear of death,” Cal State East Bay’s Chair of Philosophy & Religious Studies Christopher Moreman said in an October 2022 campus news release. “Americans’ approach to death is to deny it completely and to avoid it at all costs, but the zombie unapologetically forces us to confront and consider death. Zombies are literal embodiments of death coming to get us,” said the scholar, a “zombie aficionado.”[…] While some find this topic of study “silly or inappropriate,” University of Tampa Professor Sarah Juliet Lauro argues “it’s a deeply important mythology that is specifically about slavery.” She added in her book, “The Transatlantic Zombie: Slavery, Rebellion and Living Death,” that “zombies came to represent the struggles of slavery and colonialism.”

Yesterday, Wednesday, Feb. 1, was No Hijab Day, a Western feminist expression of solidarity with Muslim women in the United States who are supposedly oppressed and discriminated against (by those fictional but omnipresent MAGA-hat-wearing thugs) because they wear the hijab. Accordingly, Newark, N.J. city council President LaMonica McIver is set to introduce a resolution declaring Wednesday World Hijab Day in the City of Newark. McIver, of course, has all the proper Leftist intentions: celebrating “diversity,” standing against “hatred,” and all that. But this year in particular, her gesture is nothing short of grotesque. In Iran, women are dying for the freedom not to wear the hijab. And in Newark, witless Leftists are celebrating the symbol of their oppression.

Shaw: More physicists are questioning reality

In case you were looking for something offbeat to ponder (and possibly make your brain ache) this evening, there has been a series of strange announcements coming out of the science world recently. We’ve had scientists claiming to have created a wormhole, straight out of a science fiction movie. Of course, that was inside a simulation in a quantum computer and it was only two-dimensional, but it’s still pretty wild. Another group of researchers created a black hole that immediately began to glow. (Also a simulation.) And the most recent Nobel Prize for physics was awarded to a team that proved the existence of quantum entanglement, first postulated by Albert Einstein. That’s the enigma of objects being oddly correlated even when separated by vast distances. It seems like much of the scientific community has become increasingly fixated on all things quantum lately. That’s so far over my head that I won’t even pretend to understand it all, but the bottom line for some of the laymen in the audience is that our universe is probably a lot weirder than how it’s traditionally been explained, and the fabric of reality might not be quite as solid as we’ve traditionally assumed. At the Daily Beast, professor of theoretical physics Heinrich Päs goes one step further and suggests that time and space are “illusions.” In explaining how this might be, he takes us back to the classic example of Schrodinger’s cat. In their righteous pursuit of diversity, the police force has been hiring recruits that are functionally illiterate in English and some with criminal records.
