“Abandon all hope, ye who enter here,” reads an inscription at the gate to Hell in Dante’s “Inferno,” but in the modern world, Dante might as well be referring to the gates of Net Zero. After walking through those gates for a few days—maybe just a few minutes—most people would recoil at the effects of Net Zero: higher prices for everything, unreliable electricity, and a plunge into poverty. But as in “Inferno,” there is hope: you just have to abandon Net Zero. Cases-in-point include San Antonio, Texas; Huntington Beach, California; and Orange County, California.

For the past four years, San Antonio has been, by some metrics, the most-impoverished large metro area in the United States, surpassing Detroit. Despite its community’s pressing needs, San Antonio enacted a Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP) in 2019, with a vote of 10-1, to focus on “reducing the carbon intensity” of San Antonio’s electric generation instead of reducing the city’s poverty by providing more affordable and reliable energy.

Santucci & Manhattan DA threatens former Trump Organization CFO Allen Weisselberg with new charges

The Manhattan district attorney’s office has recently threatened to file new criminal charges against former Trump Organization chief financial officer Allen Weisselberg, sources familiar with the matter told ABC News. Weisselberg, 75, is currently serving jail time at New York’s Rikers Island after he pleaded guilty to tax fraud in August. The new charges, the sources said, would involve insurance fraud, a detail first reported by The New York Times. Prosecutors in Manhattan are using the threat of additional charges to pressure Weisselberg into cooperating with their ongoing criminal investigation into former President Donald Trump and his business, the sources said.

The House Oversight and Accountability Committee wants more information about Biden administration climate envoy John Kerry’s negotiations with the Chinese Communist Party over an international agreement. President Joe Biden named Kerry, a former U.S. senator, as his special presidential envoy for climate. Kerry, the 2004 Democratic presidential nominee, served as secretary of state during President Barack Obama’s second term. In that role, he helped negotiate the Paris climate agreement, which included a nominal reduction in carbon emissions by China.

“The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating your role in the Biden administration and the nature of your negotiations with the Chinese Communist Party,” House Oversight Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., said in a letter to Kerry dated Thursday.

According to the report, Russia has been preventing required inspections of its nuclear arsenal and has failed to convene a session of the Bilateral Consultative Commission that oversees compliance—both breaches of the treaty. In other words, it’s possible that—in the absence of on-site inspections by American inspectors—Moscow has exceeded the limit of 1,550 deployable warheads allowed under the 2010 treaty, thereby possibly amassing more weapons than Washington. So, why is Moscow doing this?

Antoni: GDP Report Reveals Ominous Great Depression Warning Sign Not Seen Since 1932

The latest numbers from the Bureau of Economic Analysis show that the U.S. economy grew by 2.9 percent in the fourth quarter of last year, and 2.1 percent for 2022. While the White House was quick to take credit for the state of the nation’s economy, they might want to think twice. This latest report should have alarm bells ringing, not trumpets sounding. That’s because economic growth is slowing down. Even the areas which contributed positively to gross domestic product (GDP) are not necessarily signs of prosperity. For example, business investment grew at only 1.4 percent in the fourth quarter, but that was almost entirely inventory growth. Nonresidential investment, a key driver of future economic growth, was up just 0.7 percent. […] But perhaps most troubling is the precipitous drop in real disposable income, which fell over $1 trillion in 2022.

For context, this is the second-largest percentage drop in real disposable income ever, behind only 1932, the worst year of the Great Depression. To keep up with inflation, consumers are depleting their savings and burning through the “stimulus” checks they received during 2020 and 2021. Credit card debt continues growing, while savings plummeted $1.6 trillion last year, falling below 2009 levels.

Mohamed Bakari Shei, a 20-year-old Rochester man charged with raping two juvenile females, will serve no prison time in a plea agreement submitted Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2022, in Olmsted County District Court. The plea agreement calls for no prison time and a stay of adjudication. If Shei completes his probation, the charges against him will be dismissed and will not be on his adult record. A third charge of felony first-degree criminal sexual conduct will be dismissed and Shei must register as a predatory offender.

Christenson: DC Metro Shooter Had Prior Assault Dismissed by Progressive DA

A gunman who killed a transit employee and wounded three bystanders at a Washington, D.C., Metro station on Wednesday had a prior assault dismissed last year by a progressive prosecutor. Court records show Isaiah Trotman was charged with assault and battery in November 2021, only to have those charges dismissed six months later by Albemarle County, Va., prosecutor Jim Hingeley, who won election in 2019 with the help of six-figure contributions from liberal megadonors, including George Soros. Police arrested Trotman on Wednesday and charged him with first-degree murder.

A widely used COVID-19 drug may be driving the appearance of new SARS-CoV-2 variants, sparking concerns it could prolong and even reinvigorate the pandemic. The drug, molnupiravir, produced by Merck & Co., is designed to kill the virus by inducing mutations in the viral genome. A survey of viral genomes reported in a new preprint, however, suggests some people treated with the drug generate novel viruses that not only remain viable, but spread. “It’s very clear that viable mutant viruses can survive [molnupiravir treatment] and compete [with existing variants],” says virologist William Haseltine, chair of ACCESS Health International, who has repeatedly raised concerns about the drug. “I think we are courting disaster.” But a Merck spokesperson disputes that the drug has led to the emergence of widely circulating variants, and some researchers downplayed the significance of molnupiravir-caused mutations. “Right now, it’s much ado about nothing,” says Raymond Schinazi, a medicinal chemist at the Emory University School of Medicine, noting that with SARS-CoV-2 infecting millions of people worldwide, the virus is naturally mutating at a fast clip.

Jennifer Bishop might never have known about the Jan. 19 assignment if her eighth-grader hadn’t missed part of the class and been handed the materials to take home. She emailed the school that very night. […] “I have no issue with teaching genetic disorders, but handing the students a child and asking them to ‘fix’ it indicates that the child has a ‘problem’ and that they can rectify the ‘problem’ with money and resources,” Bishop wrote in the email, which she shared with The Lion. With 3 categories for parents to choose from, ranging from “Preschool,” for kids aged 4 and under, “Younger” for ages 5 to 8 and “Older” for ages 9 to 12, Buttazzoni wanted to investigate what was being suggested to kids aged 9 to 12. […] “Do you think a 12 year old can consent to sex with an adult?” Chris asked a male student, “Yes, how about we first talk about a 17 year old and then maybe work our way down,” the student immediately responded.

In honor of Black History Month, Yale Student Body President Leleda Baraki on Wednesday told “Yalies” to let their black friends skip a busy dining hall line and to lay their jacket down over a puddle so their “black friends can walk with ease,” according to the email obtained by the DCNF. The YCC also suggested that students support the black-owned restaurants in the area. Roberts: Medicaid Expansion Weighs Heavily on State Budgets

It has been almost ten years since Medicaid expansion was first enacted, and 39 states have passed and/or enacted their Medicaid programs under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Most recently, South Dakota voters approved Medicaid expansion via ballot measure in November 2022. But a recent look at the numbers shows that the other 11 states should beware of efforts to enact expansion. Both enrollment and spending have far exceeded projections in expansion states. A 2018 study by the Foundation for Government Accountability shows that states that have expanded Medicaid have signed up more than twice as many able-bodied adults as anticipated. Medicaid expansion per-person costs exceed original estimates by 76%, and these two factors have led to cost overruns of an average of 157%.

The case was qualified as a “special case”. They were informed that the child would have to be injected with a substance to be euthanized so that it doesn’t cry before being extracted from the mother. Some of the staff have refused to take part in the “procedure”. […] We received over 70 emails in this regard and some of our supporters have offered to adopt this child, . . .[…] Despite all of this attention that this unborn child received, we were informed this morning that the mother proceeded with an abortion.
