The Arizona Court of Appeals this week rejected an attempt by the Republican Party to end early voting by arguing mail-in voting violated state’s constitution. A three-judge panel issued an 11-page ruling Tuesday that said mail-in voting did not violate the state’s secrecy clause after Republicans looked to end a practice that has become the state’s number one way to vote. “Arizona’s mail-in voting statutes ensure that voters fill out their ballot in a manner that does not disclose their vote and that voters’ choices are not later revealed,” the court ruled. “The superior court did not err in finding that these protections are sufficient to preserve secrecy in voting.”

When the FBI found Sage (last name of the family withheld for privacy) in Maryland, where she was victimized by a sexual predator, a judge refused to return her to her parents on the grounds they were abusing her in not affirming her as male. Housed in the boys’ quarters of a children’s home away from her parents, she told her mother, she was assaulted again. The girl soon fled, then was brutally sex-trafficked again until her rescue in Texas by law enforcement.

The DFL’s top priority hit the House Floor Thursday. And after a little less than four hours of debate, HF1, was passed 69-65 and is headed to the Senate. Referred to as the “Protect Reproductive Options Act,” the bill would further establish in state law the fundamental right for an individual to make decisions on their own reproductive health. “I know that not every positive pregnancy test is a celebration and not every ultrasound appointment ends with good news. And I, as a politician, have no business making that decision for someone else,” said Rep. Carlie Kotyza-Witthuhn (DFL-Eden Prairie), the bill sponsor.

The ensuing photos highlight his attempt to transition into someone who is “non-binary,” or a person who believes he was born a third sex or above the sexes altogether. The logic defies everything we know about human biology down to the binary nature of our chromosomes. No one seems to know what a woman is these days, but does anyone even remember what a man is? Smith’s progression in Ngo’s photos underscores the erasure of cultural masculinity declared “toxic” by millennials. When you lose sight of what it means to be a man — what it means to look like a man, act like a man, and live like a man — you de facto lose the values that form the foundation of healthy masculinity. But our culture doesn’t even know what a man is. […] But it isn’t just Smith. There’s a deeper mentally disturbed current pulsing beneath the decline of healthy masculinity and femininity. Consider that nearly 60 percent of people who call themselves “non-binary” report having a mental health issue. And that’s despite both difficulties in diagnosing mental illnesses and the fact that gender dysphoria itself is a mental sickness included in the latest psychiatric manual of mental disorders, meaning the real percentage is far higher. See for yourself. How is this not a mental illness? Why are we not allowed to call it that? And why on Earth is it unacceptable to ask questions about the twisted state of the sexes?

Yenor: higher ed reform in red states

Proposals to reform higher education have been bubbling around since William F. Buckley’s God and Man at Yale (1951). As conservatives have founded organizations like ACTA and National Association of Scholars to reform our increasingly ideological, incompetent universities, things have only gotten worse.

The Left now holds these institutions with an iron grip. Administrators and faculty on the Left control budgets, policies, supervisory powers, professional standards, hiring, promotion, curriculum, and student life. They credential those who can serve in universities. Administrators are products of the system. Faculty self-select those within the system. Pay is great. Security is good. Accountability is affirming. Leftist control comes in the form of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) policies. As I show elsewhere, diversity policies involve racial preferences for faculty positions and student admissions so that more minorities and fewer “oppressors” are on campus. Inclusion policies concern favoring some forms of speech (anti-white and anti-Western, for instance) and associations (LGBTQ graduations) while disfavoring other forms of speech (any speech that challenges the DEI hegemony on campus). Opponents of DEI have, reasonably enough, responded to it by . . . […] Only governmental and private efforts to stigmatize and destroy our current educational establishment and replace them with a competitive, patriotic moral model suitable for a great country can work. As Richard Lowery of the University of Texas at Austin said at the Stanford Conference, “we need to tarnish the brand [of modern universities] to where we replace it with something else.” Most of America’s most prestigious private universities and academic disciplines are past the point of no return. They cannot be reformed with their current personnel. Legislatures must make serious efforts to wrest universities away from the academic Left. Put yourself in the place of the Texas legislature charged with making laws and regulations for University of Texas at Austin, one of the most DEI-infused, fanatical universities in the country, for instance. What could be done?

A recent study that compared children’s brain activity between face-to-face interaction and virtual interaction found that electrical activity in the brain is significantly reduced during virtual social interaction, suggesting impairments to childhood cognitive and social development. Neuroscience News reported a study that analyzed the interactions between 62 mother-child pairs, both face-to-face and virtually. The children in the study were ages 10 to 14. Utilizing a process that can simultaneously scan brain activity in multiple subjects, known as hyperscanning, researchers found that brain activity was reduced during virtual interaction via videoconferencing, specifically brain synchrony between the mothers and their children. Freiburger: Wisconsin Republicans block ‘conversion therapy’ ban that overstepped legal authority

The rule banned the practice commonly known as conversion or reparative therapy. Unlike some bans that only prohibit minors from receiving such treatment, the Wisconsin rule also prevented consenting adults from accessing counseling they chose to seek out. In 2021, the Joint Committee for Review of Administrative voted to suspend the rule, and it did so again last week on a party-line, 6-4 vote. By pursuing the matter as a temporary rule suspension rather than seeking a law to permanently block the ban, Republicans have been able to stop it without the influence of Democrat Gov. Tony Evers, who would have vetoed the latter.

The United States, powerful and far removed from competitors, has the luxury to ignore trends. Hungary does not. It must win its independence through fierce struggle with the forces of the day. If historical precedent is any guide, the state of affairs in Hungary today offers intriguing insights into emerging political currents. The rise of Hungary’s Fidesz party in 2010, under the leadership of Viktor Orbán, prefigured the wave of conservative populism in the West that appeared later in the 2010s. The rise of Fidesz as a populist party came years before Trump and Brexit put the spotlight on the conservative populist phenomenon in the West. Meyrat: ‘Tulsa King’ Is An Allegory For America’s Blue State-To-Red State Migration

Taylor Sheridan and Sylvester Stallone take on the issue of the great American migration and the culture clash that ensues.[…] While many commentators speculate on the political shifts that result from this migration, there’s relatively little attention paid to the cultural shift that happens. The fact that red states are becoming more diverse and cosmopolitan while blue states become less vibrant makes for a great opportunity to explore these themes, yet most storytellers, filmmakers, and screenwriters seem rather oblivious to it. […] Finally, this status quo is being challenged by “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan in his newest TV series “Tulsa King,” which takes on the issue of the great American migration and the culture clash that ensues. While there’s certainly some conflict, the message of the show is refreshingly optimistic and profound. The story centers on the elderly mafioso Dwight Manfredi (played by Sylvester Stallone) who leaves prison after serving a 25-year sentence. Immediately after his release, his crime family sends him off to Tulsa both as a form of exile and to exploit an opportunity. Despite his misgivings from the outset, Dwight makes the most of this move and eventually establishes himself as a veritable crime lord in his new city.
