Moore: Supreme Court tosses Mass. gun law in latest Second Amendment win

The US Supreme Court vacated a Massachusetts gun control law in one of the first orders of its new term following the justices’ June ruling striking down a New York statute that required people to show “proper cause” if they want to carry a concealed firearm in public. The Massachusetts case — Morin v. Lyver — concerned the plaintiff being denied a new firearm license because he had two out-of-state misdemeanor convictions for weapons possession. Massachusetts law places severe restrictions on the possession and purchase of firearms, including the ability to obtain a license to possess handguns, if convicted of nonviolent misdemeanors.

Following several landmark rulings during last year’s Supreme Court term, which included the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the upholding of Second Amendment rights, and an affirmation of constitutionally protected religious liberty, leftists throughout the country’s various institutions have been hard at work in their attempts to destroy the credibility of SCOTUS. AP: An appeals court rules against DACA, but the program continues — for now

A federal appeals court Wednesday ordered a lower court review of Biden administration revisions to a program preventing the deportation of hundreds of thousands of immigrants brought into the United States as children. The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said a federal district judge in Texas should take another look at the program following the revisions adopted in August. The ruling, for now, leaves the future of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals up in the air. “It appears that the status quo for DACA remains,” said Veronica Garcia, an attorney for the Immigrant Legal Resource Center, an advocacy organization. DACA was adopted by former President Barack Obama’s administration and has had a complicated ride through federal court challenges. […] DACA is widely expected to go to the Supreme Court for a third time.

And Roberts decided he could even order the Trump administration to accept new illegal aliens as applicants as part of his APA power grab. The CBS/YouGov poll released Wednesday shows that 48 percent of likely voters in Arizona are backing Masters, while 51 percent support Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ), who is running for reelection. Another one percent of voters are undecided. Masters is within the polling margin of error, making the race a statistical tie. […] This current poll also asked respondents to rate the top issues in the race. Wolfe: As Russia Threatens Nuclear War, Who In This Administration Is Putting America First?

A former deputy assistant secretary of defense recently asked the million-dollar question of the moment: “Is Ukraine worth fighting a nuclear war over? If not, we should act accordingly.” If you answer that question by putting America’s interests first, the answer is obviously “no.” If this is the case, that Ukraine is not worth fighting a nuclear war over, how then should the U.S. “act accordingly”? Reasonable responses could vary. But whatever a smart course of action might be, that’s not what we have witnessed over the last 10 days from the Biden administration and the pro-war crowd. The following morning, the company’s top executive, Eugene Yu, was arrested for the alleged theft of poll workers’ personal information.

Blair: Columbia professor Jeffrey Sachs yanked off air after accusing US of sabotaging Nord Stream pipeline

Speaking with Bloomberg, Professor Jeffrey Sachs floated the idea the pipeline, which has been at the center of a global “whodunit” saga in recent weeks, was struck by the US — not Vladimir Putin’s forces — as a means of doing damage to Russia beyond economic sanctions. […] Speaking in February, weeks before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Biden promised the US would “bring an end” to the Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline if Russia crossed the border. “If Russia invades — that means tanks or troops crossing the border of Ukraine — then there will be no longer a Nord Stream 2. In the study of history, presentism is an interpretation of the past through a prism of contemporary values. Presentism has no place in history classrooms. But it is widespread. Progressive high school history teachers employ a species of presentism via a self-proclaimed social justice curriculum to advance causes like “equity,” “climate justice,” and “racial justice.” Such teachers abandon history in favor of what amounts to a left-leaning political agenda. Gaslighting historical actors against a backdrop of contemporary mores encourages teenagers to abandon nuance for ersatz moral superiority. Complex ideas, interactions, and people are reduced to caricatures in service of a progressive narrative. My newly published research in the European Economic Review finds that the introduction of Covid-related restrictions on houses of worship led to a substantial decline in subjective well-being and an increase in social isolation among religious adherents relative to non-religious people.

Using a sample of 50,000 Americans surveyed between 2020 and 2021, I find that the adoption of these restrictions reduced current life satisfaction and made it more probable that religious people would isolate themselves. These effects remained after controlling for demographics, income, political affiliation, industry, and occupation—and they wiped away nearly half of the life-satisfaction advantage that religious people generally enjoy over the non-religious. Limits on exactly how many people can gather were associated with more harm than were percentage caps on occupancy.

This newfound ethos stands in stark contrast to the past decades of conventional pharmacist practice, where they freely filled prescriptions for opiates that are highly addictive and often cause severe addiction and sometimes lead to a life threatening overdose by the patient. There doesn’t seem to have ever been a publicly disseminated story about a pharmacist taking an ethical stand against filling an opioid prescription.
