The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) reported recently that it had “just obtained a never-before-seen ‘unclassified’ October 2018 memo entitled, “Notes From ‘Iran and the US: An Off-the-Record Conversation with Foreign Minister Mohamad Javad Zarif.’” This was during the Trump administration, but Obama’s former Secretary of State was busy conducting foreign policy. “The newly obtained memo,” the ACLJ noted, “regarding the secret meeting between Zarif and these former U.S. officials, included discussions of nuclear weapons, potential prisoner swaps, Afghanistan withdrawal and negotiations with the Taliban, Houthi rebels, Syria, Suleimani’s popularity in Iran, and the ‘region in turmoil.’” Imagine if Mike Pompeo were conducting secret meetings with foreign officials now: the uproar would be intense, and Pompeo would likely be prosecuted. But nothing will happen to Kerry. He is a member of the privileged elite. The memo is new confirmation of what has long been known, and provides additional detail about what exactly Kerry did. The Boston Globe revealed back in May 2018 that Kerry was working hard to sabotage Trump’s foreign policy regarding the Islamic Republic of Iran. The whistleblower, Brook Jackson, was the regional director for the Ventavia Research Group, the company that was conducting Pfizer’s pivotal phase III trial in Texas in 2020. In September of 2020, Jackson emailed a complaint to the FDA, informing the agency of the company’s allegedly dangerous and shoddy research practices. The FDA took no action on her email, and Pfizer continued to use the company. Ventavia fired her after she tried to expose the alleged fraud, abuse, and protocol violations she witnessed during the trials. In January 2021, Jackson filed a False Claims Act lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Beaumont Division. The case was placed under seal from January of 2021 to February of 2022, preventing Jackson from speaking publicly during the mass vaccine rollout. When the metaverse went mainstream last year, it appeared to fulfill yet another of his dismal prophecies. “The Singularity will represent the culmination of the merger of our biological thinking and existence with our technology,” he foretold in his 2005 scripture, The Singularity Is Near:
There will be no distinction, post-Singularity, between human and machine or between physical and virtual reality. . . . [O]ur experiences will increasingly take place in virtual environments. In virtual reality, we can be a different person both physically and emotionally. In fact, other people (such as your romantic partner) will be able to select a different body for you than you might select for yourself (and vice versa). Ongweso: AI Inventing Its Own Culture, Passing It On to Humans, Sociologists Find
A new study shows that humans can learn new things from artificial intelligence systems and pass them to other humans, in ways that could potentially influence wider human culture. The study, published on Monday by a group of researchers at the Center for Human and Machines at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development, suggests that while humans can learn from algorithms how to better solve certain problems, human biases prevented performance improvements from lasting as long as expected. Humans tended to prefer solutions from other humans over those proposed by algorithms, because they were more intuitive, or were less costly upfront—even if they paid off more, later. “Digital technology already influences the processes of social transmission among people by providing new and faster means of communication and imitation,” the researchers write in the study. “Going one step further, we argue that rather than a mere means of cultural transmission (such as books or the Internet), algorithmic agents and AI may also play an active role in shaping cultural evolution processes online where humans and algorithms routinely interact.”

The Association of Children’s Librarians of Northern California (ACL) is hosting two events where sex-shop founder and activist Corey Silverberg will be discussing “sex education that centers justice” and “how sexuality and gender show up in public spaces.” The two sessions are part of a program called “Sex Ed for Librarians,” and the sessions, titled “The Sex Education We Deserve” and “Sex Ed. and Public Libraries,” both feature Silverberg as a speaker. The ACL notes that its mission is to “further the cause of library work with children” and to review and evaluate “children’s books and other materials produced for young people.” […] Corey Silverberg is the author of several books that discuss sex and are aimed at children as young as seven years old. As his website explains, his books “You Know, Sex” and “Sex is a Funny Word” are intended for children and discuss topics like “gender identity,” “pornography,” “power,” “pleasure,” and other mature topics. The book also includes “trans, nonbinary, and intersex bodies.” The author’s books have been found in middle school libraries.

The agency charged with caring for America’s veterans has been backsliding in performance after making improvements from a scandal a decade ago, as patient wait times grow and numerous of its employees are caught swindling taxpayers or fudging statistics. The sheer breadth of problems inside the Veterans Affairs Department were laid bare this month in a lengthy semiannual report by its inspector general that identified nearly $4 billion in losses and problems in just six months. The issues ranged from a failure by the VA to recover more than $200 million in reimbursements from private medical providers to audacious criminal plots by employees and contractors ranging from stealing furnishings donated to homeless veterans to massive kickbacks.
