The U.S. Postal Inspection Service said its covert internet snooping program did not break the law, challenging an inspector general report that accused the agency of conducting unauthorized searches and exceeding its law enforcement authority. […] An ensuing inspector general’s audit found that more than a quarter of analysts’ work in the covert internet program over two-plus years may have not had legal authorization. The postal service’s watchdog said in the audit that analysts need a postal nexus to get authorization for searches but the audit discovered searches using keywords such as “protest,” “attack,” and “destroy” and that did not mention the mail, postal crimes, or postal facilities and personnel.

Project Veritas: Shirley Teter Sued Project Veritas, Lost, and is Ordered to Pay Veritas’ Expenses
Shirley Teter, who sued Project Veritas for defamation stemming from a 2016 investigation into political organization, Democracy Partners, has been ordered by a federal judge to pay for the non-profit journalist organization’s legal expenses. Democracy Partners has previously worked with former President Barack Obama, Hilary Clinton and the DNC. Teter, who was represented by a cadre of experienced lawyers from around the country, claimed that she was “indigent” and therefore should not have to cover Project Veritas’ legal expenses. But last week, U.S. District Judge Martin Reidinger ordered Teter pay for Project Veritas’ expenses calling her claim “so weak that it did not survive a motion to dismiss.”

Rep. Fred Upton, one of the longest-tenured Republicans in the House of Representatives, has decided to retire rather than seek reelection in 2022. Upton was one of 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach then-President Donald Trump in January 2021, saying in a statement that “our country cannot and will not tolerate any effort by any president to impede the peaceful transfer of power.” Now, Upton is the fourth of those 10 to retire, joining Reps. The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine was made available under the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) on Dec. 11, 2020. By February of 2021, the company was seeing so many safety signals, including in pregnant and breastfeeding mothers, it had to immediately hire 600 employees to process the data.
“Pfizer has also taken a multiple actions [sic] to help alleviate the large increase of adverse event reports. This includes significant technology enhancements, and process and workflow solutions, as well as increasing the number of data entry and case processing colleagues,” the confidential report stated. “To date, Pfizer has onboarded approximately 600 additional full-time employees (FTEs). More are joining each month with an expected total of more than 1,800 additional resources by the end of June 2021.”

Shaw: Study: 4th booster protects the elderly… for four weeks
If the latest medical study out of Israel is anywhere close to accurate, people may be looking at the vaccination campaign a bit differently. That would be particularly true of older people who are still considered among the most vulnerable to infection. Puder: Why Biden’s Nuclear Deal With Iran is Dangerous for America
President Joe Biden’s most important job is to protect America from foreign threats, and not necessarily appease the left-wing of his Democratic party. The threat that China, Iran, and Russia pose to US security is considerable. While China and Russia are brute forces in the international arena, they have not caused American deaths in military-like operations. Iran, on the other hand, did. The Military Times reported (April 4, 2019), “The Pentagon…upping the official estimates of US troops in Iraq who were killed by Iranian-backed militias, now put that number at 603. Those casualties were the result of explosively formed penetrators (EFP), other improvised explosive devices (IED), mortars, rocket propelled grenades (RPG), small arms, sniper and other attacks.” […]  While negotiations on the renewal of the nuclear deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran were going on in Vienna, missiles from an Iranian base struck in the vicinity of the newly constructed US Consulate just outside Erbil, the capital of the Kurdish Regional Government (KRG), earlier this month. It is clear that the Ayatollah regime intended to hurt American lives and property. It did not however give pause to the US participation in the negotiations. It is compounded by the insulting setup whereby US representatives had been exiled to a separate hotel location in Vienna, as demanded by the Iranians. Moreover, Iran demanded the delisting of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) from the list of terrorist organizations. The combination of all of these facts, along with the continued cheating by the Iranians on their previous nuclear commitments, has diminished the US stature. All of that notwithstanding, the Biden administration’s eagerness for a deal with the leading state-sponsoring terrorist entity endangers American security, and that of its allies, including Israel, is inexplicable.

The Glasgow meeting in January has been forgotten. Coal imports to the European Union have already increased by more than 56% compared to 2021, to face an energy crisis. In Britain, the Coal Authority has authorized a mine in Wales to increase production by 40 million tonnes over the next two decades.
Germany, which depends on Russian gas and which has the Greens Party in government with the Social Democrats, was so desperate that it had to stop the shutdown of its nuclear power plants.

Goldman: Beating China
America needs a proactive industrial policy to win the fourth industrial revolution. We need to rebuild the American economy, and we can only do that with a visionary strategy that galvanizes the imagination of Americans, like the Kennedy Moon Shot or the Reagan Strategic Defense Initiative.
Let’s put it very simply: the numbers show that the Trump policy toward China was a catastrophic failure. And with all due respect to Curt Mills, if we get more of that we’ll have more catastrophic failure. We’re now importing over 30% more from China than we did in January 2018 when Trump imposed tariffs. Tariffs are a really lousy way of dealing with this kind of problem: they’re good for micro-economic dumping issues, but they’re very ineffective at a macro level. As for technology suppression, China built 70% of the world’s 5G networks and is proceeding to build the application on top of that which constitutes the fourth industrial revolution. We can do better than China. We’re better equipped to innovate than China. But we’re not doing so, because we’re crushed by a technocratic elite which has sucked the marrow out of the United states economy and generated enormous wealth doing things that, for the most part, harm us. Nothing short of an intervention by the federal government, namely an industrial policy, will turn that around.

Hageman: Why Energy Security Is National Security
In December 2008, Marine Corps Gen. James Jones (retired) wrote in a Wall Street Journal article that “You can’t use the word energy independence. It is not a valid phrase. It is designed to excite people. But it is simply not going to happen.” That was a factually unsupported statement then, and remains so. At the time that Jones made this pronouncement, the U.S. Minerals Management Service was estimating that there were approximately 18 billion barrels (BBls) of oil and 77 trillion cubic feet (Tcf) of gas in the Outer Continental Shelf. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) estimated that there were at least 10.6 BBls of oil and 8.6 Tcf of gas in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The potential for U.S. dominance has not abated. Texas, which currently leads U.S. states in oil production, has massive proven oil (11.1 BBls) and gas (93.5 Tcf) reserves. North Dakota, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Colorado round out the top five in terms of oil production. Crude oil is produced in 32 states. The top five natural gas-producing states are Texas, Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and West Virginia. Wyoming leads in coal production, and West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and North Dakota are critical coal-producing states as well. In 2019 it was estimated that Wyoming had 1.4 trillion tons of total coal resources. […]  The world stage is now set: Our “liberal democracies” are dependent on totalitarian and destructive regimes, and the mad dash to try to deflect from that reality has begun. The saber-rattling, the tough talk, and the genuflection to “world order” are designed to gloss over the fact that if Western democracies had not chosen to destroy our energy independence, we wouldn’t be in this mess in the first place. Well, exactly what it looks like. The Democratic Party and its media wing have decided to jettison Joe Biden. There was never an official order to do this. What you’re watching here, as always, is the hive mind at work. Democrats have the same reactions because they have the same instincts, “Biden is week, we must get rid of him.” Now, to most people, that sounds harsh and unforgiving, but in the animal kingdom, it’s an entirely natural response. It’s the first rule of dog packs. For example, if a single dog wavers or lags behind, the other dogs will kill him, even if they’re from the same litter. Yes, it’s fratricide, but it’s nothing personal. It’s a matter of group survival and that’s exactly how the Democratic Party operates.  Individuals are irrelevant to the party. The group is all that matters. No one at the DNC actually cares about Joe Biden or ever has, or for that matter, cares about George Floyd or Greta Thunberg or David Hogg or anyone else they tell you is an irreplaceable hero. All people are expendable. What matters is the party and the party matters because in numbers, there is power. And of course, on some level, Joe Biden knows this. He’s spent his life in the Democratic Party. He’s never worked outside of the Democratic Party, so he understands how this ends. Inevitably, after 50 years, it is his turn to be eliminated. President Joe Biden’s pick to serve on the Federal Election Commission is representing Stacey Abrams’s nonprofit and Raphael Warnock’s church in a lawsuit that challenged the validity of Georgia’s 2018 election due in part to the state’s use of “unreliable” electronic voting machines. In November 2018, election lawyer Dara Lindenbaum signed on to a federal legal complaint on behalf of Abrams’s Fair Fight Action. The complaint challenged the constitutionality of Georgia’s 2018 election, which saw Abrams lose to Republican governor Brian Kemp in a race she never conceded. Warnock’s Ebenezer Baptist Church joined the suit in early 2019, just months before the Democrat entered Georgia’s 2020 Senate race.

Simonson: Migrant Surge May Push DHS To Lower Security Standards at Border
The Department of Homeland Security may lower the security clearance required to process migrants detained on the southern border in an effort to mitigate staffing shortages ahead of the surge of immigrants expected at the border in the coming months, according to internal memos reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon. The memos show leadership within the agency discussing the need to allow members of its volunteer force—staffers who sign up to assist with border issues outside their normal roles—and outside contractors access the federal government’s internal immigration data entry system. That system, known as E3, compiles all information, including biometric data, on migrants detained by Customs and Border Protection agents. E3 is a law enforcement system, meaning that civilians rarely get access without proper training and background clearance.
