Power-hungry Washington Democrats are doing their level best to change election laws to ensure they hang on to power forever. They laughably claim they’re supporting democracy by punishing political speech and banning elections they lose. Democrats hope to advance two anti-Democratic laws this session. One of them is flatly unconstitutional. But it’s easier to pass legislation when you have total control in Olympia than it is to work harder and increase turnout. The bills would ban most odd-year elections where Democrats fear they are at a disadvantage, and send political opponents to jail who question election integrity. DISMANTLING AMERICA’S SUBURBS: WILL BIDEN FINISH WHAT OBAMA STARTED?

Killian: Kathy Hochul’s war on the suburbs may get her kicked out of NY’s governorship
During the Obama administration, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) was the primary weapon used against single-family zoning in the suburbs.  The left is now leading the assault with state laws to supersede local zoning laws and force multi-family projects into suburban neighborhoods.  Their efforts in New York could reverberate across the nation if successful. Proposed New York State Senate S.4547 would override local zoning to permit the construction of accessory dwelling units as small as 550 square feet on residential property for the purposes of rental.  Existing accessory dwelling ordinances, which have been adopted to accommodate family members living in these units, would be voided immediately, completely usurping municipal home rule powers for single-family zoning districts.  Municipalities would be prevented from imposing barriers to the units, including parking requirements, setbacks, or allowable residential density.  This is a legislative camel’s nose into the tent to institutionalize state authority.

It’s all part of a grand scheme to forcibly desegregate inner cities and integrate the outer suburbs. […]  It will set voucher rent limits by ZIP code rather than metro area, the current formula, which makes payments relatively small. For example, the fair market rent for a one-bedroom in New York City is about $1,250, which wouldn’t cover rentals in leafy areas of Westchester County, such as Mamaroneck, where Castro and his social engineers seek to aggressively resettle Section 8 tenants.

Welcome to the world of “Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing” (AFFH), President Obama’s transformative new regulation. How will AFFH work? The city of Dubuque gives us one of our best and most frightening previews yet. I hope the presidential candidates are watching, because Obama’s new AFFH regulation and the Dubuque fiasco ought to be an issue in this year’s Iowa caucuses. I also hope American citizens pay attention to the travesty in Dubuque, because it’s not too late to save your hometown from Dubuque’s fate. (I’ll tell you how to do this below.) […]  How can a housing rule control every aspect of local life? It’s far easier than you might imagine. AFFH redefines “fair housing” to include proximity to transportation, jobs, and schools. This will effectively extend the power that HUD now exercises over Dubuque’s housing policy to nearly every other aspect of local development and planning. Under AFFH, once a town takes HUD money, it effectively loses control not only over housing but schools, zoning, transportation, the environment, and business location.  As Thornton concludes, “If you take their money, you play by their rules.” Dubuque shows that, over time, Obama’s AFFH rule could spell the end of local government in America.

Not exactly, but Obama is already working to get rid of them. President Obama is not a fan of America’s suburbs. Indeed, he intends to abolish them. With suburban voters set to be the swing constituency of the 2012 election, the administration’s plans for this segment of the electorate deserve scrutiny. Obama is a longtime supporter of “regionalism,” the idea that the suburbs should be folded into the cities, merging schools, housing, transportation, and above all taxation. To this end, the president has already put programs in place designed to push the country toward a sweeping social transformation in a possible second term. The goal: income equalization via a massive redistribution of suburban tax money to the cities. Obama’s plans to undercut the political and economic independence of America’s suburbs reach back decades. The community organizers who trained him . . . […]  One approach is to force suburban residents into densely packed cities by blocking development on the outskirts of metropolitan areas, and by discouraging driving with a blizzard of taxes, fees, and regulations. Step two is to move the poor out of cities by imposing low-income-housing quotas on development in middle-class suburbs. Step three is to export the controversial “regional tax-base sharing” scheme currently in place in the Minneapolis–St. Paul area to the rest of the country. Under this program, a portion of suburban tax money flows into a common regional pot, which is then effectively redistributed to urban, and a few less well-off “inner-ring” suburban, municipalities.

Obama’s new Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) regulation is his vehicle for the effective federalization of . . . well, pretty much everything. Breathtaking in its radicalism, AFFH easily matches Obamacare in its transformative potential. We’re talking about a regulation with the capacity to put virtually every decision ordinarily made by local voters and their elected representatives into the hands of the federal government — how you run your schools; whether the place you live will have the character of a small town, a bedroom suburb, or a densely packed urban center; whether you drive to work on well-paved roads or take public transportation; which neighborhoods your city will spend its money on, and more. […]  To get new HUD money, local officials will now have to fill out a massive and incredibly intrusive questionnaire called the AFFH “Assessment Tool.” Local officials will have to explain to HUD whether your region has any concentrations of low-income African Americans, Hispanic immigrants, poor Syrian refugees with limited English proficiency, and more. If too many of the low-income minorities in your region live too close together — or not close enough to top-notch schools, transportation hubs, and business districts — HUD will force your suburb or small town to change its zoning regulations, build high-density low-income housing, and “affirmatively advertise” the new housing units to minorities who live outside of your municipality.

The American Bar Association voted on Monday to require that all law schools educate students on their duty to “work to eliminate racism,” a move top law professors say will “institutionalize dogma” throughout legal academia. The association, which accredits almost every law school in the United States, voted 348 to 17 to adopt the standard. Law schools will now have to “provide education to law students on bias, cross-cultural competency, and racism,” both at the start of law school and “at least once again before graduation.” Additionally, law students will have to complete a course on “professional responsibility” that introduces them “to the values and responsibilities of the legal profession”—including “the obligation of lawyers to promote a justice system that provides equal access and eliminates bias, discrimination, and racism in the law.” […]  Hulett Askew, a member of the American Bar Association who spoke in favor of the new rules, said they were a direct result of the deans’ petition. Coyner: Why Nearly 40 Percent of Gen Z Identify as LGBTQ
I was shocked not long ago when I read a piece on the Newsweek website. The headline read “Nearly 40 Percent of U.S. Gen Zs, 30 Percent of Young Christians Identify as LGBTQ, Poll Shows.” That, aside from Joe Biden providing free crack pipes to help address racial inequality, is the most absurd thing I may have ever read. Not so much for the data itself per se, but rather, an illustration of exactly how malleable (and lost) young Americans are. Whatever the natural percentage of LGBTQ whatever people in the United States is, it’s sure as hell not 40%. It’s probably closer to low single digits. Whatever it actually is, somehow with the left’s championing the of the rainbow, magically 40% of young people identify with it… not tolerate it, not say no problem with it, not even say, good for them, but against the tide of tens of thousands of years of human history, are now, or at least “identify” as, LBGTQwhatever.  That tells you a lot about the state of America today. That so many young adults are so confused about sexual attraction, one of the most basic and important elements of life, one that most people never even have to question because it’s largely written in our genes, tells you quite a bit about how absurd America has become.
It’s guaranteed that you won’t find this absurdity in nations where people struggle for food, water, shelter and freedom. Guaranteed you won’t find this absurdity in nations where . . .  […]  How exactly does that happen?

Jeffrey: A 40% Fatherless Nation?
In 1941, when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor and the United States entered World War II, there were 2,515,427 babies born in this country. Of those babies, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 95,700 — or 3.8% — were born to unmarried mothers. The traditional family led by a mother and father was a foundational fact of American culture. In 1945, the percentage of babies born to unmarried mothers rose to 4.3%. But, by 1946, the first full year after the war, it dropped back down to 3.8%. The traditional family survived. Then in the 1950s, . . . By 1969, . . . […] . . . in the 13 years from 2008 through 2020, there were 51,138,204 babies born in this country, according to the CDC, and 20,642,649 of those babies (or 40.36%) were born to unmarried mothers.

Piper: American universities look to China playbook on free speech, surveillance
Georgia Tech computer researchers were connected to much higher-level surveillance in Special Counsel John Durham’s explosive court filings Friday. They were tasked with mining “non-public and/or proprietary Internet data” obtained by a technology executive as part of the Hillary Clinton campaign’s alleged attempts to establish a “narrative” and “inference” linking Donald Trump’s campaign to a Russian bank, Durham charged. Lawyer Michael Sussman was actually representing the Clinton campaign and executive when he tried to convince the FBI to open a probe of the “purported secret communications channel,” according to Sussman’s September indictment. One of the researchers warned the executive that they would “have to expose every trick we have in our bag to even make a very weak association” between Trump and Russia.

Miller: Nevada Univ. students walk out of class in protest demanding reinstatement of mask mandate
Dozens of students at the University of Nevada-Reno were spotted marching through campus demanding the reinstatement of the recently abandoned mask mandate in the state. “Reinstate, mask mandate!” dozens of students chanted repeatedly as they marched across campus in Reno, Nevada Monday in a video captured by KRNV reporter Ben Margiott. Margiott added that a petition to reimpose the COVID-19 mask mandate had gathered 1,500 signatures.

Sparks: First woman cured of HIV thanks to stem cells from newborns
The first woman — and third person ever — has reportedly been cured of HIV after receiving a breakthrough treatment involving a “magical” umbilical cord blood transplant. Researchers at New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center in New York led the study, and shared their findings during the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections in Denver the New York Times reported Tuesday. Their case study, from New York, bears significance for a number of reasons. The “past middle-aged” woman, who chose not to be identified in the interest of privacy, was among the first to receive a novel transplant method using umbilical cord blood, fortified with a mutation that blocks HIV from entering her cells. She also received partially matched blood stem cells from a first-degree relative — a parent, offspring or sibling — while the cord blood treatment worked its way through her rejiggered immune system. Now, just 14 months after her transplant, her blood shows no trace of the virus. The successful therapy also led to remission from leukemia that she developed in March 2017 due to HIV infection.

Chan: Remington to Pay Sandy Hook Families $73 Million in ‘Wake-Up Call’ to Gun Industry
Remington Arms will pay nine families who lost loved ones in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting $73 million to settle a wrongful death lawsuit, attorneys announced Tuesday, the first time a U.S. gun manufacturer has been held liable in a mass shooting and a legal outcome that could open the door to future lawsuits against gun makers. The settlement ends a landmark lawsuit over how Remington marketed the rifle used in the massacre in Newtown, Conn. on Dec. 14, 2012, and it saves the gun maker from having to reveal any potentially incriminating evidence about its marketing practices at trial. Twenty children and six educators were killed when a gunman opened fire in the school. Josh Koskoff, the attorney representing the families, hailed the outcome as historic. It’s nearly impossible for gun makers to be held responsible for the use of their products in mass shootings due to a federal law that largely shields them from liability.
