The FBI landed formal indictments on Evans and Rosenberg in the 1988 “Resistance Conspiracy” case for their involvement in the bombing of the Capitol along with five others. Evans and Rosenberg had already been in police custody for other crimes of the radical left-wing terror group May 19th Communist Organization (M19), named for the birthdays of Malcolm X and Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh. Shattered mirrors, chandeliers, and furniture littered the halls of the Capitol on a day when a group that “openly advocates the overthrow of the U.S. Government through armed struggle and the use of violence” according to the FBI struck at the heart of our democracy. This was not January 6, 2021 but November 7, 1983, the day that the May 19 Communist Coalition detonated a bomb that blasted a hole in the wall outside the Senate chamber. But the 1983 incident—the day that a group with the goal of violently overthrowing the government bombed the Senate building—has been effectively wiped from memory. Susan Rosenberg, a May 19 member, was initially charged with a role in the 1983 Capitol bombing and two others, but the charges were dropped as part of a plea deal. In 1984, she was arrested in possession of 750 pounds of explosives and firearms, including automatic weapons, and a jury convicted her the following year. But 16 years into Rosenberg’s 58-year sentence, President Bill Clinton commuted it on his last day in office. By 2020, Rosenberg, a convicted terrorist, was sitting on the board of Thousand Currents, which handles donations made to Black Lives Matter.

And in Minnesota, health officials have devised their own “ethical framework” that prioritizes black 18-year-olds over white 64-year-olds—even though the latter are at much higher risk of severe disease. These schemes have sparked widespread condemnation of the state governments implementing them. But the idea to use race to determine drug eligibility wasn’t hatched in local health departments; it came directly from the federal Food and Drug Administration. When the FDA issued its emergency use authorizations for monoclonal antibodies and oral antivirals, it authorized them only for “high risk” patients—and issued guidance on what factors put patients at risk. One of those factors was race. […] The triage plans show how federal guidelines can encourage this sort of race discrimination. They also suggest that the FDA is making political judgments, not just scientific ones.

The subjective sensation of pain was reframed as an objective measurement, and through the implementation of pain scales was deemed on par with literal measurements of temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate. The “pain as the 5th vital sign” campaign was incorporated into pain management standards, and linked to reimbursement from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for in-hospital care through patient surveys that included three questions about pain treatment. When patients reported unrelenting pain despite non-opiate therapeutics, the next alternative to adhere to pain management policies and avoid a cut in reimbursement was an opiate prescription. Now, as the opioid epidemic rages, the AMA has since dropped “pain as the 5th vital sign” . . .[…] Like the pain campaign, fresh incentive payments from CMS aim to push forward a movement in medicine aspiring to achieve the equally broad and complex goal of social justice. A new Improvement Activity, to “Create and Implement an Antiracism Plan,” will be added to a list of options influencing incentive payments for 2022, contributing to a score that can increase or decrease reimbursement by up to 9 percent.
The rationale for this initiative is to “address systemic inequities including systemic racism” as stated in President Biden’s executive order released in January 2021, to confront racial and ethnic health disparities. CMS references a toolkit to implement strategies that addresses these disparities using root cause analysis. Our national elite is united enough to have the vices of a ruling class, but not the virtues. In particular, they are cohesive enough to be perceived as oppressive by much of the populace, but they are rarely gracious and conciliatory when needed. They know how to make enemies, but not friends.
Culturally and ideologically, America’s elites have consolidated into a regime, with Big Tech, the legacy media, academia, Big Business, the entertainment industry, and, of course, the leaders of the Democratic Party, all singing from the same hymnal, even if they sometimes squabble over the key. But many citizens refuse to join in. The American ruling class thus faces an ancient problem: how do political, cultural, and economic winners convince everyone else to accept the system; how do elites secure the consent of non-elites? Members of our ruling class cannot appeal to religion or immemorial custom to justify their place. Indeed, they cannot appeal to much of anything beyond their own supposed merits, both personal (they earned their place) and as a class (they believe themselves to be wise and leading us well).

There are rules that create different sporting categories for men and women based on objective criteria found in nature and reality. You swam on a men’s team, and you competed with men.
