In her coverage of the January 6 incident, the intrepid Julie Kelly has encountered judge Tanya Chutkan, an appointee of the composite character David Garrow described in Rising Star: The Making of Barack Obama. Judge Chutkan calls January 6 an “unprecedented attempt to prevent the lawful transfer of power,” which it wasn’t. On the other hand, there is precedent for the kind of judicial abuse the Obama judge displays. Consider her role in the case of Imran Awan. Of all the IT people in all the IT firms in all the world, House Democrats, led by Debbie Wasserman Schultz, thought Imran Awan was the best man for the job. Sometimes working from his native Pakistan, Awan and his family team accessed the computers of some 40 Democrats, including those on the intelligence and foreign affairs committees. Without their consent, Awan and his team stashed the Democrats’ data on a server controlled by then-Representative Xavier Becerra (D-Calif.), chair of the House Democratic Caucus. Capitol Police wanted a copy of the server but the one Awan produced turned out to be a fake. In February, 2017, Awan and his team got booted from the House computer network, but Becerra had already fled to California where Gov. Jerry Brown made him state attorney general.

The Biden administration had instructed the Department of Labor to require COVID-19 vaccines. As always with such Draconian tyranny, they tell those who object that “It’s for your own good” and regurgitate tyrants’ favorite meme, “It’s for the greater good.” I refuse to obey such commands. I am determined to avoid a stroke, a leading cause of death. Someone in America has a stroke every 40 seconds. Every four minutes, someone dies of stroke, 795,000 a year. But a stroke can be worse than death, as my mother’s experience demonstrated. […] Her condition didn’t change at all. For 17 years. That was the lesson yours truly learned about strokes. When the Lord finally, mercifully took mom from us, it still was a devastating loss for the family. For her, it was finally a release from 17 long tortuous years of staring at the ceiling, unable to communicate with her loved ones, . . . Strokes are one of the potential vaccine side effects on the circulatory system. You might understand why I am loathe to permit anything to be put in my body that increases the chances of having a stroke. Like mom had. […] That, tragically, is not all. One of my granddaughters . . . […] The government and medical establishment insist the vaccines are safe and effective. They are neither. And they are not even vaccines in the traditional medical sense. They are not created from diluted or dead samples of a virus. They instead are manufactured genetic experiments. This is probably why the CDC recently redefined “vaccine” by removing from its definition the word “immunity.” The COVID vaccines don’t provide immunity.

Raskin: Biden, China’s Xi to meet Monday amid tensions between countries
President Joe Biden is set to speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping Monday, as tensions between Beijing and Washington have mounted. The planned virtual meeting will be the third conversation between the pair since Biden took office at the beginning of the year, and the first since news outlets reported in mid-October that China had in August tested a nuclear-capable hypersonic missile — causing alarm among US intelligence officials. They spoke most recently on Sept. 9, when Xi rebuffed Biden’s request for an in-person discussion with the aim of easing tensions between the world powers. The leaders did not speak about the COVID-19 pandemic during the call, according to the White House.

It is the atheist version of confession or medieval penance. In addition, in the spirit of “always being on the offense,” wokists know that those who slander do so most successfully when they lodge exactly those charges most familiar and applicable to themselves.

It’s not necessarily the case that everything can be explained through some sort of primitive application of class analysis, but it’s also not something you should be blind to, especially when discrepancies are staring you in the face. In the case of woke politics, it’s probably meaningful that you rarely find an example of, say, a woke electrician or plumber or truck driver. Those people might exist—and we might find proof of the Loch Ness monster at some point, too—but this is not an ideology that infects people at random. It’s clearly a class phenomenon in what we can observe, in the sense that certain people, from certain classes—essentially people in the big cities, people working what some have called “email jobs”—tend to be woke, and people who work as part of the real economy tend to be not woke. To try to deny that these discrepancies exist, or that they’re not in need of investigation, is just a form of political self-harm at this point. To lay out what wokeness does: one explanation we should take seriously is that wokeness serves as a sorting mechanism for sinecures, prestige institutions, and so on, where there’s growing competition for jobs. […] . . . the real question is whether being woke is a good way to get into Harvard. It certainly is. In fact, it’s probably a requirement at this point, since these schools are increasingly transitioning away from standardized testing and into essays and personal statements on how it feels to be poor and marginalized. Ironically, if you want to get really good at writing an essay like that, it helps to be pretty rich and to have the right sorts of essay coaches.
