Sturman: Why It’s A Serious Violation Of Medical Ethics To Force Kids To Get COVID Shots
According to a report from BBC News, there is a 1 in 500,000 absolute risk of death in children due to COVID-19, and those rare cases generally involve children with chronic medical conditions, including obesity. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) likewise confirm that the vast majority of children and adolescents, again excepting for severe preexisting medical conditions, are spared COVID-19-induced morbidity and mortality. COVID-19 vaccines do not confer sterilizing immunity, and the salutary effects are short-lived, since coronavirus vaccine-induced antibody titers wane rapidly. The vaccine minimally mitigates transmission, and even that mitigation declines rapidly three months after the second shot. Viral spike protein antigens constantly mutate, rendering vaccines less effective and necessitating booster shots. Natural immunity, on the other hand, confers prolonged protection as a result of an immunologic response to multiple viral antigens. The risks of administering a vaccine early in its development are uncertain.

Berry: Emails Reveal Nebraska Ed Bureaucrats’ Disdain for Parents in Pushing Radical Sex Ed Curriculum
Emails obtained by Nebraska parents through a public information request revealed a state board of education member facilitated outside activists to advise in the drafting of a controversial state sex ed curriculum, while telling parents no outside activists were involved, the Washington Free Beacon reported Thursday. Though the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) told parents no external activists were involved in drafting the radical curriculum, the hundreds of pages of documents parent Jason Martinez received reportedly revealed what the report noted as “snide remarks state bureaucrats and their activist allies made” as they drafted a curriculum that would teach children about transgender hormone treatments and abortion.

Wisconsin has become the first state in the nation to pass powerful new Academic Transparency legislation to bring sunlight in—and take politics out—of its K-12 classrooms. Based on the Goldwater Institute’s model policy language, and with the support of the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty (WILL), the Wisconsin State Senate and State Assembly today passed mirror bills establishing parents’ rights to know what is being taught in their schools by requiring school districts to post on a publicly accessible portion of their website a listing of the specific learning materials being used at each school. […] Under the legislation, prospective parents will no longer have to guess and gamble about whether a nearby school is informally slipping into the classroom content such as the New York Times 1619 Project, or assigning literature like Ibram Kendi’s How to Be an Anti-Racist, which tells students, “The only remedy to past discrimination is present discrimination.” Instead, as noted by Rep. Behnke, this new Academic Transparency legislation “allows families to make informed decisions about their children’s education experience.” Indeed, for the first time, parents will have the ability to identify and distinguish between schools pushing radical politics versus those affirming core academic principles before they’re forced to choose where to send their children.

Loudoun County Public Schools did not record multiple known incidents of alleged sexual assault in schools dating back several years, despite a law that requires statistics about school safety incidents to be reported to the public and which includes provisions holding school superintendents personally liable for violations, a Daily Wire review of public records found. After The Daily Wire raised the discrepancy with the Virginia Department of Education, VDOE spokesman Charles Pyle said that “VDOE is reviewing the discipline, crime and violence data submissions of Loudoun County Public Schools and is in communication with LCPS to determine whether the division’s reporting is accurate and whether the division is in compliance with state and federal law.”

Johnson: Michigan schools call off Halloween, Valentine’s Day celebrations over inclusion concerns
Principals at elementary schools in a Michigan school district are canceling Halloween and Valentine’s Day celebrations over equity and inclusion concerns raised by parents. East Lansing Public Schools elementary principals sent a joint letter to families Wednesday announcing there would no longer be Halloween or Valentine’s Day celebrations in the classroom due to potential distractions and an increasing number of uncomfortable families. “It’s not uncommon to see students crying on Halloween “because they don’t have the same kind of costumes that other kids have or they didn’t bring the same amazing valentines that other kids do,” Assistant Superintendent Glenn Mitcham said. “We’re striving hard at East Lansing Public Schools to be a district that is equitable and inclusive for all families.” But the district is by no means canceling Halloween or Valentine’s Day, Mitcham said. Instead, celebrations can be built into the curriculum. He used the example of a class measuring a pumpkin while learning about circumference.

When General David H. Berger, Commandant of the Marine Corps, testified before the House Subcommittee on Defense at the end of April, he did not refer to Afghanistan. Even while a skeleton force of hundreds of Marines remained in Kabul, Berger made no mention of them. Instead, Berger spoke about racism. Bizarrely enough, Berger began his presentation, not with the threats to the United States that the Marine Corps existed to fight, but by declaring that, “our nation has engaged in a long overdue conversation on race and social justice sparked by several visible incidents of institutional racism”. By that, Berger meant that Black Lives Matter mobs had torched a number of cities and their leftist allies had purged everyone who disagreed from every institution. Berger assured House Democrats that he was happy to lead the purge of dissenting Marines.

Williams: Military Archbishop: Catholic Soldiers May Follow Their Conscience and Reject COVID Vaccine
Explaining the Catholic Church’s teaching on receiving the COVID vaccine, which the church encourages, Archbishop for the Military Services Timothy P. Broglio said a soldier may reject the vaccine, if he feels it violates his conscience. “No one should be forced to receive a COVID-19 vaccine if it would violate the sanctity of his or her conscience,” said Archbishop Broglio in a statement released on Oct. 12. Broglio explained that the church has issued a document on the morality of using some of the COVID vaccines, which were tested and/produced using abortion-derived cell lines. The church said it is morally okay to receive the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, but the Johnson & Johnson vaccine should be avoided, unless no other vaccine is available.

Silverio: Suicides Among Active Duty Military In Spring 2021 Spiked 22% From Same Time In Previous Year
A total of 99 active-duty members committed suicide between Apr. 1 and Jun. 30, according to the data. A total of 81 active-duty members died from suicide in the same period of 2020. A majority of the members who committed suicide, 60, from April to June 2021 were enlisted in the U.S. Army, while 17 members of the Navy, 14 of the Air Force and 8 from the Marine Corps also committed suicide, according to DSPO data.

A Republican congressman is questioning Attorney General Merrick Garland’s ties to a left-wing education company after the Justice Department directed law enforcement to investigate threats against school officials at public school board meetings. Rep. Doug Lamborn (R., Colo.) on Thursday asked Justice Department inspector general Michael Horowitz to investigate Garland’s connection to Panorama Education. Founded by Garland’s son-in-law, Panorama creates race- and gender-based surveys for students. Lamborn called Garland’s connection to the group “concerning,” given his recent attempts to meddle in school board meetings. “While working in authoritarian fashion to halt dissent at school board meetings across the country, a company cofounded by AG Garland’s son-in-law is making millions on curriculum that delves into Critical Race Theory and Gender Theory,” Lamborn told the Washington Free Beacon. “The family of the attorney general should not profit, while millions of American parents across the country are being silenced.”

Climate czar John Kerry and his wife have at least a $1 million stake in a Chinese investment group that is a major funder of China’s artificial intelligence sector—including a tech company blacklisted by the United States for human rights abuses against the Uyghurs, according to financial records reviewed by the Washington Free Beacon. Bloomberg Law: OSHA’s Vaccine Mandate Enforcement Likely to Count on Insiders
President Joe Biden has tasked OSHA with creation of a rule requiring every U.S. company with more than 100 employees to require its workers be inoculated against Covid-19, or subjected to weekly testing. But the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has only 1,850 inspectors responsible for the health and safety of 130 million workers and a mandate that still requires them to inspect workplaces for a panoply of other safety issues, raising the question of just how the agency intends to enforce its new and broad public health mandate. OSHA has been virtually mum about what enforcement will look like and how it will deploy its limited resources on a massive nationwide mandate. The measure is now under White House review, meaning its release could be imminent. The “vast majority” of businesses are OSHA compliant, the agency said in response to a Bloomberg Law request for specific details, adding that “when necessary, OSHA has several methods to hold employers accountable for the safety and health of their workers,” including concentrating its resources on repeat offenders. […] However, where there is noncompliance, worker complaints will be the primary driver of enforcement, attorneys and advocates say, pointing to the current Emergency Temporary Standard in effect for health-care workers that shows such complaints are the greatest source of information for inspectors. Amanda Flanagan, a safety attorney at Sheehy, Ware, Pappas & Grubbs, P.C. in Houston said she expects a “rash of informants and complaints by employees,” that OSHA will have to investigate.

Congressional Democrats, concerned over lukewarm public enthusiasm for their massive social welfare spending package, may be forced to modify a tax-raising provision that has prompted significant backlash. A plan to provide the IRS with access to individual bank accounts with balances as low as $600 may end up significantly modified or even dropped altogether amid opposition from lawmakers and trade groups who say it would infringe on privacy and create significant liability for financial institutions as well as add new costs for consumers.

Titled “I Shall Create! Teaching Toward Freedom,” Ayers’s essay is the first in a 2019 collection by left-wing activist Lisa Delpit. If nothing else, Ayers has been consistent. He has been pumping out frenetic anti-white cant long before it was cool, let alone mandatory. Writes Ayers in this recent essay, “We must face reality and courageously confront history, tell the truth, and then destroy the entire edifice of white supremacy: metaphorically speaking it means burning down the plantation.” The problem now is that Ayers is no longer an outlier. The same FBI that hounded him and his fellow bombers is now hounding parents who protest his subversive nonsense. What Ayers thinks would matter less were it not for his outsized influence on the educational philosophy of former president Barack Obama. Were Obama merely a former president, his thinking would not matter much, either. But Obama may be more than that. Even Tucker Carlson has openly speculated that Obama is the guy running the show at the White House. What seems clear is that Joe Biden is not. Equally clear is the mind meld between Ayers and Obama on educational issues.

Pandolfo: Gallup: Majority of Americans now favor limited role for government since Biden took office
Gallup finds that 52% of Americans say the government is doing too many things that should be left to individuals and businesses, while 43% say the government needs to do more to solve problems. Last year’s surge in support for big government was driven by Democrats and independents, who opposed how President Donald Trump was handling the coronavirus pandemic. Gallup notes that in times of crisis, Americans tend to favor more government action, as seen in a surge of trust in government after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. However, “all party groups are less likely now than a year ago to favor a more active government role,” Gallup finds, with the largest shift in opinion happening among independents.

Berman: Texas 6-week abortion ban to remain in force, federal appeals court says
The 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals said Thursday that it will allow Texas’ controversial new law that bars abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy to stay in force while it considers an appeal of a judge’s order blocking it. The vote of the panel was 2-1. The Texas law bans abortions after fetal cardiac activity is detected, which usually happens about six weeks into a pregnancy and often before a woman knows she is pregnant. It’s been the subject of heated litigation since before it took effect at the beginning of last month.

Trucks are a crucial part of the U.S. supply chain, transporting everything from food to machinery, but a commercial truck driver shortage is causing serious disruptions to the economy and beginning to hit consumers where it hurts. Chris Thropp, president of the SAGE Corporation, said a nationwide truck driver shortage had become a problem for the industry even before the COVID-19 pandemic, according to CBS 21. A shortage of around 60,000 truck drivers was reported in 2019, but that number has since grown to around 100,000 this year. “There are so many choke points in the supply chain,” Thropp said. “I don’t know that anybody really knows how long it’s going to take to unwind all of this and hope that it doesn’t grind to a halt.” Trucks account for roughly 73% of the nearly 12 billion tons of freight transported across the U.S. each year, . . .
