Political persecution and isolation of vast swaths of the citizenry by the Justice Department, the Intelligence Community and the Judiciary in the wake of the January 6, 2021 Capitol incursion should bring a chill down the spine of every American. This same troika, but with different nomenclature, was mobilized by 20th Century despots to eliminate their political enemies and establish a police state. (I attended the January 6, 2021 rally at the U.S. Capitol and observed first-hand what the media and the Democrats have falsely and with malice claimed was an “armed insurrection.”) The initial step in consolidating power is to incessantly demonize as enemies of the state one’s political opponents. Students in a Wisconsin school district have access to a slew of “sexually explicit” books via their school-provided computers, including content that dubs traditional views of marriage as “ignorant.” Elmbrook School District offers students access to books and information via an online library called SORA. The SORA database — which can be accessed by students as young as eight years old — includes books such as “This Book is Gay,” by Juno Dawson, and “Queer,” by Kathy Belge and Marke Biesche. “This Book is Gay” offers a play-by-play of how to use Grindr and other “sex apps.”

The resulting report found that five masks were contaminated with bacteria, parasites, and fungi, including three with dangerous pathogenic and pneumonia-causing bacteria. No viruses were detected on the masks, although the test is capable of detecting viruses. China’s military said it chased a U.S. warship out of a disputed area of the South China Sea on Monday after Washington warned an attack on the Philippines might activate a mutual defense treaty. Beijing affirmed its claims to portions of the sea that also are claimed by Southeast Asia governments. It rejected the Biden administration’s declaration of support Sunday for an international tribunal ruling in favor of the Philippines that threw out most of them. China is increasingly assertive about pressing its territorial claims, which are fueling tension with neighbors including Japan, India, Vietnam and the Philippines. The People’s Liberation Army said it sent ships and planes after the U.S.S. Benfold entered waters claimed by Beijing around the Paracel Islands.

As its hapless practitioners beat themselves up like bulimic teenagers over having to withdraw from Afghanistan after nearly 20 years of accomplishing rather little, they completely missed any hint of the massive demonstrations that began sweeping Cuba, just 90 miles from our shores, on July 11. Demanding “liberty” and telling their government “We are not afraid,” angry protestors in at least 32 Cuban cities and many smaller municipalities have marched to demand an end to the island nation’s six-decade old communist regime. In some places, they have seized Communist Party offices and attacked security personnel and vehicles. Many are carrying the American flag, even as our own protesters, Olympic athletes, and Democratic members of Congress show contempt for it. These are the largest demonstrations in Cuba in at least 30 years, . . . […] The Biden Administration, however, was curiously absent from the scene for some 24 hours during which President Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and almost all other Democratic politicians and national security appointees made no statement. […] Why can’t the Biden Administration support oppressed people taking enormous risks for their freedom from socialism? The reason is simple. The kids are safe. They always have been. It may sound strange, given a year of panic over school closures and reopenings, a year of masking toddlers and closing playgrounds and huddling in pandemic pods, that, according to the CDC, among children the mortality risk from COVID-19 is actually lower than from the flu. The risk of severe disease or hospitalization is about the same. This is true for the much-worried-over Delta variant. It is also true for all the other variants, and for the original strain. Most remarkably, it has been known to be true since the very earliest days of the pandemic — indeed it was among the very first things we did know about the disease. The preliminary mortality data from China was very clear: To children, COVID-19 represented only a vanishingly tiny threat of death, hospitalization, or severe disease. Yet for a year and a half we have been largely unwilling to fully believe it. Children now wear masks at little-league games, and at the swimming pool, and when school reopens in the fall they will likely wear masks there, too. But the kids are not at risk themselves, and never were. Now, thanks to vaccines, the vast majority of their parents and grandparents aren’t any longer, either.

The Supreme Court ruled unanimously (9-0) that police illegally seized a Rhode Island man’s firearms in violation of his Fourth Amendment rights.

All over Canada, churches are going up in flames. On the same day 25 miles south, Our Lady of Lourdes parish was burned to the ground as well. The week before that, St. Gregory’s Church near Osoyoos was destroyed. So was Sacred Heart near Penticton. […] All these are Catholic, but they aren’t the only ones being targeted. In Calgary, 10 churches of various denominations were vandalized in a single night. A few days later, a Vietnamese church was set on fire — just hours after it held its first full service in more than a year. Overall more than two dozen churches in Canada have been targeted over the past few weeks — and people are cheering it on. Not just anonymous people, either: On June 30, Harsha Walia, the executive director of the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association, responded to a story of another church arson, saying “Burn it all down.”

Vadum: Cubans Rising
Cubans took to the streets in cities across the desperately impoverished police state to protest the island nation’s brutal 62-year-old communist dictatorship in what are said to be the largest public demonstrations against the regime in decades. Thousands of Cubans in at least 16 cities from Havana all the way to Santiago de Cuba chanted “libertad,” the Spanish word for freedom, as they demanded an end to government oppression. Many wore or waved American flags and were beaten by police, Breitbart News reported. Hundreds were reportedly arrested. Cuban journalists were arrested for covering the protests, according to Cubanet. Cuban President Miguel Mario Diaz-Canel did what communist dictators do when their grip on power is threatened: he appeared on television July 11 to urge his fellow communists to use violence against the protesters. “We are willing to give our lives. They will have to pass over our corpses if they want to confront the revolution,” Diaz-Canel said. “We are willing to do anything.”

Unruh: Judge cancels abortion law because constitution recognizes ‘right to life’
A national law expanding the permission for abortion beyond cases of rape or a risk to the life of the mother has been struck down by a judge who noted Argentina’s constitution specifically recognizes a “right to life.” Judge Alfredo Eugenia Lopez, of the Federal Tribunal No. 4 of Mar del Plata, decided the illegality of the abortion expansion based on a previous national Supreme Court ruling that “life is the first human right which is recognized and guaranteed by the national constitution.”
