Goreham: The looming electrical power shortage
People in developed nations take abundant electricity for granted. When asked where electricity comes from, most will point to their wall outlet. But many states in the U.S. are headed for a serious and prolonged shortage of electrical power not seen in decades, driven by rising demand from the artificial intelligence revolution and mandates to adopt green energy. For 20 years, U.S. electrical power policy has been dominated by efforts to try to “mitigate” global warming, believed to be caused by human greenhouse gas emissions. In 2021, President Joe Biden called for achieving a 100% carbon-free electric sector by 2035. Twenty-three states have enacted statutes or issued executive orders to achieve net-zero electricity generation by 2050. Because of net-zero mandates, grid operators spent the last two decades replacing coal-fired power plants with natural gas plants, wind turbines, and solar installations. More than 200 coal plants have been closed, reducing electricity output from coal by almost 60% since 2007. From 2000 to 2023, wind and solar output rose from near zero to a combined 14.1% of production. Over the same period, natural gas rose from 16.2% to 43.1% of power generation. But grid operators in many states now face an unprecedented ramp in electricity demand.

The Manta Ray prototype uncrewed underwater vehicle (UUV) completed the full-scale testing off the coast of Southern California over the last three months, according to manufacturer Northrop Grumman. Such an indictment would not just further isolate Israel over this war; it also would create a dangerous precedent that could lead to indictments of U.S. officials and servicemembers by this unaccountable and unconstitutional international court. The Biden administration’s response to possible ICC indictments of Israeli officials has been extremely mild. President Biden dismissed them as “over the top.” White House Spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre deflected a question about this issue by saying, “We don’t believe the ICC has jurisdiction. We don’t support this investigation.” House Speaker Johnson said on Tuesday that a Biden official would tell the ICC “to stand down.” These tepid responses to potential serious abuse by an out-of-control international court suggest the Biden administration would not mind if the ICC indicts Netanyahu and other Israeli officials. If this is the case, this position could come back to haunt the United States and set the stage for future indictment of U.S. officials and servicemembers. Background: On November 21, 1973, the Israeli government established the Agranat Commission to investigate the failures in intelligence and decision-making leading up to the Yom Kippur War. Among the commission’s most important findings was that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Intelligence Directorate had mistakenly convinced itself that Egypt and Syria would not go to war unless certain military conditions were met. Rigid adherence to this distorted belief, which was based on intelligence and flawed but deeply held assumptions, led to the delayed call-up and deployment of IDF reserve forces, almost unchecked Egyptian and Syrian advances in the early hours of the war, and many Israeli casualties. The Agranat Commission famously labeled this misapprehension “The Concept” (hakonsepziah in Hebrew). The Concept was the analytical basis for the IDF’s underestimation of the threat it faced and its failure to take appropriate and timely action.

Israel’s enemies are charging the world’s only Jewish nation with committing genocide. This is a lie. Genocide as a word and internationally accepted concept did not exist before 1944. Resting on that singular historical example, the United Nations Office to Prevent Genocide defines this crime as any acts committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group. This narrow definition under international law consists of two principal prerequisites: intent and a specific group’s physical destruction. This was certainly the case when Hitler almost entirely exterminated European Jewry and when the Hutu government massacred Rwanda’s Tutsi population in 1994. Currently, there are politically motivated and rhetorically irresponsible charges of genocide leveled at Israel. These disingenuous accusations are a weapon of war that terrorist groups such as Hamas and its allies are using to achieve strategic political victory in the struggle for universal information dominance.

A Hamas official on Wednesday night appeared to reject what U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken described as an “extraordinarily generous” ceasefire agreement. Osama Hamdan, a Lebanese-based spokesperson for the terrorist organization, told the Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Manar TV that his group’s “position on the current negotiating paper is negative.” Hamdan’s comments were later clarified by the Hamas press office, saying that they are still open to negotiations if the current proposal undergoes certain changes.

Christopher Scalia recently tweeted side-by-side photos of a masked pro-Hamas protester and a masked terrorist captioned “Manhattan 2024 meets Munich 1972,” a reference some readers might not recognize. On September 5, 1972, at the Olympics in Munich, Palestinian terrorists of the Black September faction forced their way into the quarters of the Israeli team. The terrorists shot dead and castrated weightlifter Yossef Romano, a mutilation not revealed until 2015. The carnage continued and by the next day, the terrorists had murdered 11 Israelis. The next year, Israeli commandos killed Muhammad Abu Yousef al-Najjar, mastermind of the Munich massacre. His son Yasser al-Najjar became a fugitive and in one account came to the United States, though documentation of his arrival is hard to find. When National Public Radio profiled him in 2003, Yasser al-Najjar was an official of the Palestinian Authority living in Gaza. In 2012, a man named Ammar Campa-Najjar worked in the Obama administration, which never revealed that Ammar was the grandson of Muhammad Abu Yousef al-Najjar, mastermind of the Munich massacre.

The campaign of intimidation and violence exploded mid-April when anti-Zionists set up an encampment on the West Lawn of Columbia University. Columbia President Minouche Shafik failed to remove them swiftly, so the activists chased the Jewish students off campus. In one somewhat creepy but rather hilarious incident, an anti-Zionist mob was filmed pushing Jews off the territory they stalked. Their vigilant leader Khywani James, noticing an approaching party of Hebrews, screamed, “[W]e have Zionists attempting to enter the lawn!” He quickly assembled the masses into a human chain and got them to repeat after him One step forward! Wade: Brown University Cedes to Pro-Palestinian Protesters’ Demands, Divests from Israel
Brown University has caved to the demands of pro-Palestinian protesters by agreeing to vote to divest its financial holdings from Israel in response to the war in Gaza. The private Rhode Island Ivy League school said it reached a deal on Tuesday with students protesting the war in Gaza that would require them to remove a make-shift encampment from school grounds in exchange for the institution considering divesting from Israel. The agreement is the first major concession from a university in response to student protests that have shut down campuses across the country, divided public opinion and led to more than 1,600 arrests.

The eras are marked by suicide bombings and the deaths of more than 5,000 Palestinians and 1,400 Israelis. The American Jewish Committee (AJC) says that the Arabic word “intifada” translates to “uprising” or “shaking off.” […] While Smith is a student at Fordham, not all of the protesters were. Although he said he has never been to the region of Palestine, De Los Santos said he has been at protests “across the city,” including Columbia University and City College, to support the students in their protests against Israel.]

Tucker Carlson Interviews Russian Philosopher Aleksandr Dugin
Aleksandr Dugin is the most famous political philosopher in Russia. His ideas are considered so dangerous the Ukrainian government murdered his daughter, and Amazon won’t sell his books. Tucker Carlson talked to him in Moscow. Watching this interview while sitting in a kitchen in Russia is a little odd, however, what Dugin explains does seem to lineup with my perspective as an American in Russia. The explanation for why leftists (progressives) in the USA seemingly reversed their entire worldview about Russia in a decade does seem to make sense. […] As Dugin notes, Western democracy is no longer about the majority of the citizens; the national identity has been erased in favor of governing rules by a minority. The commonality of sex (two genders) has been erased in favor of multiple-gender identity, expanded individualism, which is simply a reflection of the fractured bond of commonality. It is an interesting conversation.

The order also says Arkansas public schools must not force students to shower or undress with members of the opposite sex, and should abide by state law that guarantees their privacy, the order says.
